Sunday Post | 73rd Edition

February 8, 2015 Sunday Post 39

Welcome to the 73rd Edition of My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

I’m keeping busy as always, though saying exactly what with is really hard. Lots of school stuff keeping me busy – I’m trying to get myself setup to do observations and the paperwork’s no fun at all!

I’ve also been knitting a lot. I forgot to show y’all but I finished making this Outlander inspired cowl for my friend a couple weeks ago.

Me wearing it as a hood

Me wearing it as a cowl/scarf

My friend loved it and I’m thrilled 🙂 Since I suck at replying to comments I thought I’d mention – because I know someone asked – this used those HUGE knitting needles. There plastic – I typically use the cheap metal, so that wasn’t a problem for me – but the size was awkward. I adjusted easily though. The really only frustrating part was trying to weave in the ends because the knit is so lose, they don’t want to stay weaved in!

I also made my BF a scarf… well it’s pretty much an ascot, but don’t tell him that! He would scoff at being a guy that wears an ascot LOL! But he said he wanted a short scarf that had a spot to tie close to his neck. Sound like an ascot to anyone else?

The scarf/ascot

He really loves it, so I guess that’s the point, right? I’m working on a purse right now for myself, using all the scraps from projects I’ve done. It should be interesting, but so many of the colors naturally go together so I think it will be good. I may not have enough to finish it, so I’ll just set it aside and keep working on it as I get scraps.

Blog News

Stormi @ Books, Movies, Reviews. Oh my! And I kicked off our Murder at the Reinhart event last week – most the posts below are about that.

But the real fun starts tomorrow as the authors face off against each other to see who’s sleuth can solve the mystery best! The thing is, you all vote on the winner! So please (pretty please) stop by and vote next week – we’ll have results up on Saturday!

#FitReaders Update

Average steps: 9816 steps/day (so close! I need to work on not being quite so lazy on off days!)
Days counting calories: 4 (I’m really struggling with this!)
Book budget money earned: $0 – close but not quite 🙁

It is funny that sometimes you wonder what you did with your day. I know I do. But they’re all certainly *full*. I hope you get things all set for observation. 🙂 I freaking love those scarves! I recently finished a scarf using those ginormous plastic needles too. (did I already tell you this?) I usually use bamboo needles so I didn’t like the plastic that much…they’re cold! LOL Anyway, the Outlander inspired one is awesome. Did you follow a pattern? And the ascot secret is safe! 😉 Oh, and you picked up some great looking books. I hope you enjoy them!

Alright I just finished catching up on the Reinhart event- too frickin cool! Love what you are doing with this. I’ll be following this all week… great job!

Ooh, nice cowl and scarf! I love that you show your knitting projects on your blog. I haven’t been doing enough knitting lately to have any – and I just had to frog almost a third of a laceweight shawl because I used needles that were two sizes too small. (Note to self: always check whether needle size given is US or UK before casting on. They are not the same.)

I’ve just spent a fun half-hour reading all the Reinhardt posts on your blog and Stormi’s. What fun! Can’t wait to read the authors’ stories.

Thanks Jenna, they were fun to knit 🙂 Oh I really recommend both – they’re so good and fast reads (listens in my case – the narration was good if you like audio). Have a great week!

I’m so behind on my blog reading that I haven’t been able to get to the Murder at the Reinhart posts. It sounds fun though so hopefully today is the catch up day! Love the cowl! I’m planning on learning how to knit at some point and I love the look of that one. Have a great week!

I know all about being behind – I’m hopelessly behind right now! I’m kinda trying to just start with a fresh slate today and just grab a few of the older posts I missed through the Sunday posts. I hate missing so much, but I’ll never catch up. The only post you HAVE to read to follow Murder at the Reinhart the rest of the month is Friday’s, since it’s the start of the story. The real fun starts tomorrow 🙂

I’m a self taught knitter and it’s easier than you’d expect. Get one of those kits that comes with a book and some needles, you’d be surprised how easy it is to pick up. The hardest part is the cast on. Once you have that, you’re golden! (it’s also the first thing you have to learn, so don’t give up when that’s hard LOL)

      Have a great week!

  5. Ramona

Yep, definitely an ascot – and it looks so darn cute in the form of finished product, too! You’re so much better than I could ever hope to be 🙂 Loving the new additions to your pile, especially the Cursed by Fire – awesome cover, right? Have a great Sunday, ducks!

Hehehe that’s what I thought too 🙂 Thanks I’m glad it looks good – I love knitting and I’m so glad I started back up at it. Even if it takes me way longer than an accomplished knitter to do simple projects. Cursed by Fire has an awesome cover and I’m really excited to read it. It’s another blogger’s first books, so I’m excited to support her too. Have a great Sunday 🙂

    • Berls

I’m glad you’re enjoying Murder at the Reinhart – I’m so excited for the voting to start 🙂

Thanks, I’m loving knitting – it’s been a while so it’s great to be back at it.

Cursed by Fire is a début author 🙂 I’m really looking forward to reading it – she’s a blogger at Coffee and Characters. I’m pretty sure she’s still taking blog tour signups if you’re interested too 🙂

  6. Michelle

So I totally think I need a scarf in Harry Potter Gryffindor colors 🙂 Logo Payment? lol I’m just kidding but if you want to I wouldn’t mind lol

We both have been so busy the last few weeks and I miss chatting with you, we need to pick a chat day or two! Lots to catch up on!!!! So we need to set aside…what?…3 or 4 hours 😀

I can’t wait to start voting on Murder at the Reinhart! I am so excited to see what each author comes up with!!!

Have a great week Kim! oxox

Oh I could totally make you a Harpy Potter Scarf! I’m going to text you about it in a minute 🙂

Yes – we really really need to chat. What’s your week look like?

I’m so excited for the voting to start – I can’t wait to see what everything thinks, I thought the authors did great so it’ll be hard to pick!

      Talk soon:) HUGS!

  7. Lexxie

I love how good you are at knitting after doing it for such a short time, Berls! The scarf (ascot) you made for your BF is really nice!

I can’t wait to read the mysteries of Reinhart! You and Stormi are so creative, and I look forward to seeing what the different authors have come up with for this one.

Paperwork sucks! There, I said it. I have loads of that now, too, but thankfully some of my ‘reporting’ (grading and absences) are done on the computer, so it takes less time to do.

I would so love to get my hands on Invaded! Is there a way to sign up for ARCs with Tantor? I love Alienated, and really look forward to reading more in this universe.

I hope you’ll have a fantastic Sunday, and a great week ahead, Berls. Happy reading.

    • Berls

Thanks Lexxie! I used to knit years and years ago, though never more than simple things, so it’s really fun to start pushing my knowledge to more complicated knitting patterns.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the Murder at the Reinhart – the author’s did really great with their endings, so it’s going to be so fun for the voting to start!

Yeah, paperwork blows! I think I’m finally done with everything so I can start doing my observations. I have to get them done before I can get a job, so I want to get started ASAP. And I have to do the exams, but I was waiting for my new photo id to come in (my old one had the wrong address). It just came in, so now I can register and start working on that! Grading is probably the most time consuming part of teaching – that at and lesson planning I guess.

Yes – I’m going to send you an email right away that you can use to get add to the list with Tantor.

      Have a great week Lexxie!

    • Berls

It’s actually pretty easy to do the basic things I do, I’m self taught using books and YouTube videos. And I love it clearly LOL! Thanks for following the Murder at the Reinhart posts, I can’t wait for the voting to start 😀

    • Berls

Thanks! I’m going to start thinking about Christmas presents – I haven’t done that much, but I think it would be fun (and cheaper LOL) but also a more sentimental present, which is always fun to give and receive.

I’m glad you’re enjoying Murder at the Reinhart – I can’t wait for the voting to start 😀

    • Berls

I definitely recommended it Jessica – I enjoyed it so much that I jumped right into the newest one. I wish there were more!

  8. Lola

I like seeing pictures of your knitting, that scarf you made for your friend looks great. And how fun you made your boyfriend a scarf as well, although I never heard fo the term ascot. Good luck with your purse, please share a picture once it’s done, I want to see it!
I am really enjoying your murder at reinhart feature so far, I can’t wait for the voting to start!
I hope you have a great week!

I’ll definitely share the purse – it’ll probably be a while before it’s done since I’m making it all out of scraps and I don’t think I have enough yet for the complete purse. I’m glad the pictures aren’t boring, I just love sharing my knitting now that I’ve picked it back up. I’m glad you’re enjoying Murder at the Reinhart! I’m so excited for ya’ll to start voting too 🙂 Have a great week Lola!

    • Berls

I knit in the evenings when we watch TV together for an hour or so. We don’t watch much TV, but it’s the perfect time to knit. I sometimes get so into an Audiobook that I sit with one and knit too – I might do that later today actually 🙂 Have a great week!

    • Berls

Oh I definitely will – I loved Alienated so much that even though I was planning on reading something else I immediately picked up Invaded. Have a great week Megan!

    • Berls

Hahaha I totally would if he weren’t so OCD about things. He’s very very OCD and the way I say something can stress him out for days… Like if I say something using the impersonal “you” and it refers to something bad happening, he stresses out until I put a name in it that’s not him. It’s weird the things that can set off an OCD attack, so I avoid at all costs. Otherwise, I’d so do it too 😉

  9. Red Iza

You’re really good at knitting, crochet is more my thing. You boyfriend needn’t know what that thing is called as long as he likes it ! Ignorance will be good for his peace of mind ;)Have a great week !
Red Iza recently posted…The sunday post #8My Profile

    • Berls

LOL I agree 😉 Thanks – I’m not so good at crochet – I tend to get that hook stuck on things LOL! I’m tempted to try again though, since it’s been a while since I tried and I’m loving knitting so much after years of not doing it.

    • Berls

Thanks Kimba! I love to knit for an hour or two in the evening when we watch TV together. Keeping my hands busy keeps me from mindlessly snacking when I’m not even hungry 😛 So glad I got back into it! I’m glad you’re enjoying the Murder posts – I can’t wait to have everyone start voting 🙂 have a great week!
