I continue to enjoy this series! I Kissed a Rogue had the enemies to lovers trope and it thought it played out really well. It was cool to discover how much the heroine, Lila, had grown, but I would have liked it better if this had started with a flashback to years ago so that I could have personally seen that growth. I think it would have made Sir Brook Derring’s feelings toward her easier to understand from the start. Regardless, it was quite easy to sympathize with him. And did I love Lila and Brook as a couple though and enjoyed cheering for them to get over past wrongs.
Bow Street's best investigator, Sir Brook Derring, is hailed as a hero by the ton, but he cares little for the praise or the women. He fell in love once, with Lady Lillian-Anne Lennox, and shortly thereafter lost all romantic notions. As the eldest daughter of the Duke of Lennox, Lila has everything but the freedom to follow her heart. All that is taken away when she's kidnapped by a London crime lord, but she knows that someone must be looking for her. She hopes that it will be Brook, the only man she's ever truly cared for and has never been able to tell. Contains mature themes.
The mystery element was also great – quite the twist I did not see coming at the end. I spent a decent amount of time trying to figure out who had ordered the hit on Lila and was stunned when it was revealed.
Beverley A Crick’s narration continues to be fantastic, I’m so glad I chose to listen to this series. It’s particularly great when you hear the variation if aristocrats and commoners. She makes those variations very well. I can’t wait to continue listening to this series!
