Old habits die hard for assassins.

And I plan on murdering someone before the night is through.

Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very, very good at it. Now, I’m ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was thirteen. Oh, I don’t think the mission will be easy, but turns out it’s a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I’m coming for her. So now I’m up against the army of lethal bounty hunters Mab hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister’s head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second. Good thing I’ve got my powerful Ice and Stone magic—and my irresistible lover, Owen Grayson—to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there’s a good chance I won’t survive. But if I’m going down, then Mab’s coming with me . . . no matter what I have to do to make that happen.

Woo-hoo! Spider’s Revenge was one hell of a ride – action packed, brimming with magic, and overflowing with emotions. I couldn’t put Spider’s Revenge down – I’m pretty sure I listened to the whole thing within 24 hours.

Note – there will be some series spoilers in this review.

Since book 1 we’ve known that everything was marching toward the moment that Gin would finally face down and kill Mab. Or die trying. I just never dreamed she’d start making her move so early in the series!

But Spider’s Revenge kicks off with Gin taking a shot at the queen of Ashland’s underworld – and it just never stops! This was so faced paced, with tons of action and anxiety and tension and… OMG I still think I’m overwhelmed by how great it was.

Somehow Jennifer Estep manages to keep up this nail biting pace while throwing us plenty of emotional and character development. You’ve got things between Gin and Brea. Things between Gin and Own. Revelations about the goth dwarf, Sofia. And much, much more. I nearly wept at one point, it was just so much!

I’ve been reading the last three books in a bit of a binge and, while I think it’s time for a change of pace so I don’t wear myself out with Gin, I’m really looking forward to returning to the series soon. I will most definitely be returning to it on audio, as Lauren Fortgang has come to BE these characters for me. All her voices and varied and appropriate, bringing the story to life.

I’m officially in love with these characters, the world, and the magical, action-packed (albeit bloody) adventures they promise to deliver.

    Gin’s outfit on that cover is BAD ASS! I could totally see myself wearing something like this! LOL. It’s funny because i was a shadowhunter for Halloween last year and this looks similar to my outfit, minus the runes of course!
    Glad to hear this book was such a hit for you!

    Aww, I’m so happy you’re having such a good time with this series. A binge every now and then is a good thing but I usually need a change of pace too if I spend too much time in certain worlds. This is still a series I intend to read/listen to- especially since you’re such a fan!
    Happy Friday, Berls! I hope you’ve had a great week and have something fun planned for the weekend! {{{hugs}}}
