Seduction has never been so sweet! The New York Times bestselling author of the Cold Fury series—Alex, Garrett, Zack, and Ryker—returns with the first novel in a hot new trilogy.

Sela Halstead lost her innocence in a way that no sixteen-year-old should ever have to endure. She’s spent years trying to forget that night even while wondering about the identities of the monsters who brutalized her—until a telltale tattoo flashes across Sela’s TV screen. The incriminating ink belongs to Jonathon Townsend, the millionaire founder of The Sugar Bowl, a website that matches rich older men with impressionable young women. Obsessed with revenge, Sela infiltrates Townsend’s world, only to come face-to-face with a tantalizing complication: Beckett North, his charismatic business partner.

The tech mastermind behind The Sugar Bowl, Beck always gets what he wants, in business and in bed. And yet, for a man who’s done every dirty thing imaginable, there’s something about the naïve, fresh-faced Sela that sparks his hottest fantasies. Because with her, it’s not just about sex. Beck opens up to her in ways he never has with other girls. So why does he get the feeling that she’s hiding something? In a world of pleasure and power, the shocking truth could turn them against each other—or bind them forever.

Note: Sugar Daddy ends on a cliffhanger. Sela and Beck’s story continues in Sugar Rush and Sugar Free!

Sawyer Bennett is an author I’ve had on my TBR since I started blogging – so more than 3 years! I’m kicking myself right now because this was SO GOOD!

I have to start off, though, by giving a major trigger warning. If rape is a problem for you – to read about graphically, that is – Sugar Daddy will be a problem for you from the get-go. As in, it opens with a fairly awful rape scene.

But wow, if you can handle that, talk about making you “get” the character. You FULLY comprehend Sela’s anger and difficulty changing her mission. In fact, I was shocked sometimes by her efforts to do that.

I also love the messages thay Sawyer Bennett has slipped in about the problems with how our society makes rape victims feel. Sela feels so much victim guilt. Like she was asking for it and I’ve she’s too dirty now. She shouldn’t feel any of those things and, while it’s never overtly talked about, readers are getting a clear message about something seriously wrong with our society.

I really like the love interest, but I’m seriously worried about whatever it is we don’t know about him yet. He’s linked to a pretty horrible guy and I just hope he doesn’t have any of that in him. I don’t think he does.

Oh and the narration is FANTASTIC. We have two narrators – Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers- and usually when they alternate chapters I find it a bit jarring, but not this time. There was a similarity in their quality for male and female characters that made the switches work well. I do, surprisingly, like the male narrator – Christian Fox – better, which is really unusual for me.

Final warning – Sugar Daddy ends shockingly and abruptly. I was listening on my way to work and when it ended I’m almost positive I shouted, I the car. “No! What the fuck?! NO!” So don’t be like me. Have the 2nd one ready and waiting. You do not want to have to wait. Like me.

    Sawyer Bennett is an author I’ve been wanting to try for awhile too but I don’t think this will be the one I start with. The rape scene makes me a little nervous – especially with a new to me author. I’m glad to see how much you enjoyed it – especially the narration change as that can be a little jarring for me as well. I’m definitely going to have to get a Bennett book soon! Great review!

      Yeah the rape element is definitely pretty strong. I had a feeling rape would play in, but right out of the gates? That shocked me. I think it was supposed to, so that you can’t forget it. Just like our heroine can’t.

    Woohoo! I’m so happy you enjoyed Sugar Daddy as much as I did, Berls! I, too, think the narrators are fab – AND I like Christian Fox better! 😉 (I even went on the hunt for more from him 😉 ) I agree with you on that issue of how our society makes rape victims feel and how Sela felt, it did a lot to explain her anger and ‘other’ feelings. Beck. Gah! I think he just has to be a good guy. But I am curious about the connection to JT.
    Don’t worry about not having the 2nd one lined up. I actually *do* have it but I’m waiting for #3 so I can just binge. And besides, Lexxie told me the ending of #2 will leave me more desperate than #1, so…
    Happy Wednesday, Berls! I hope your first week as Teacher of the Month is going splendidly. 😀 {{{hugs}}}

      Isn’t Christian Fox great? I need to go on a Fox hunt as well 😉 Beck!!! I know he’s good, I feel it. But man, HOW is he connected to JT?! #nervous and that ending! Damn!

      Happy Thursday now 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful week. *hugs*
