The Strangest Blogoversary

July 9, 2017 Blog Updates & Misc 35

Four years ago today I stayed up all night starting Fantasy is More Fun. It’s home was blogger and it was a hot mess. But within a month I had roped my brother into making me some decent graphics, instead of my paint/power point creations. I had moved to Word Press. Then I met Michelle @ Because Reading and started COYER – and the rest was history.

I was a blogger and I was obsessed. I posted more than once a day at first. I checked obsessively for comments and visited other blogs like a mad woman. Because I had FINALLY found MY people. The book people. And it was a a time in my life that I needed it desperately. In a way, my blog and the friendships I made through it saved me from a severe depression.

Over the past 4 years I’ve had an amazing time. I’ve become co-host to a handful of challenges – my proudest remains COYER, a challenge that brings so many readers together into a really fun, supportive community. I’ve gone to author events and met many of my favorite authors – I’ve been on a first name basis with some and even been a beta reader for favorite series!

And, most importantly, I’ve made LIFELONG friendships. I’ve managed to meet several of you in person and those days have been some of the happiest in the past few years.

And that’s way it was so hard for me to make the decision I made today… to shut down Fantasy is More Fun. It’s not what I need anymore. I’m not excited about it anymore and it’s just not my place right now. I mean do you see my header? It’s STILL on set to MARCH and St. Patrick’s Day. I just don’t have it in me to handle a blog myself right now.

Thankfully this isn’t REALLY good-bye though. I’m not ready to leave entirely – and thankfully Michelle wasn’t ready for me to leave either. So I’ve been adopted into a new home. That’s right, guys! Michelle @ Because Reading is fostering me! I say fostering me because there is a possibility that Fantasy is More Fun will become my home again someday. But for the rest of this year – or until Michelle kicks me off her blog LOL! – I’ll be at my new home Because Reading. Any maybe it will become my forever home, we’ll just have to see.

We’ll be sharing more details on her blog later this/next week (we just made this official today, so it may take a few days lol!).

I hope you’ll come visit me at my foster home!! πŸ™‚

Looking forward to hearing from your journey. I’ve been blogging for while, so there are so many things for me learn along the way.

While I’m not surprised, I am a little sad, Berls. Even if you have found a new home with Michelle, and I know you will have fun blogging with her. You are one of my close blogger-friends from the early days of my blogging, too, and so Fantasy is More Fun is a place I usually check out several times per week.
We need to do a real-life get-together next year! I miss you SO much xoxo

I know, I’m a little sad too. Fantasy is More Fun has been a good home to me and I will miss it. But, as is no surprise, Michelle has made me feel awesome at her blog and I think this is going to be a really good thing.

Yes we really do! I’m going to try and get off for BEA next year AND talk myself into flying so I won’t have to take as many days… I haven’t flown since 2004, so we’ll see.

While I am sadden to read this post, I understand and respect your reasons why you are taking a temporary or permanent hiatus. The world is not the same place it was 4 years ago when you started your blog, and because you are such a kind and caring woman who has shared your journey with us, I get it. I just want you to know that you have been an inspiration to me, both as a blogger, and as a human. I hope you will continue to fight the fight and keep us posted on your world because as Jonetta best put it… there truly is no one else like you out there. You are an amazing, special person and I look forward to seeing you at your new home. *HUGS*

Thank you so much Jen, your words mean a lot to me. {{HUGS}} I will totally keep y’all posted. Honestly not much is changing besides my address. I’m still going to have the same types of posts, just I don’t have a complete blog to maintain along with them. So I think this is going to be a great change – I’m already feeling much better πŸ™‚

    • Berls

Thanks Melanie! I feel like this was a decision I should have made a while ago – as much as I hate to see Fantasy is More Fun go, the stress is so much less.

    • Berls

Can I give you the biggest hug? {{HUG}} You’re too kind. I’m sad about the blog, but I’d hit a wall and I don’t know if it was just the perfectionist in me or what, but I couldn’t move forward. I’m already digging in at my new home and you’ll find that Michelle wants me to bring a lot of what made Fantasy is More Fun special right along with me – she’s really giving me a lot of space to do my thing. So maybe none of us will miss it so much πŸ™‚ Or maybe it’ll give me the space I need to revive Fantasy is More Fun. We’ll see!

    • Berls

Thank you so much Kimba! I’m glad it didn’t either – I was really worried it would. I owe Michelle big time for giving me a home πŸ™‚

I think this is a great choice. I’m glad you are not giving up blogging entirely. I have definetly gone through times also that I have not wanted to blog, but I don’t mind neglecting my blog for awhile and coming back to it.

    • Berls

Thanks Rachael – I’m glad Michelle made this option available for me. If she hadn’t, I’m afraid I would have left and that would have made this really sad. Instead, I’m excited about blogging again and that’s something I haven’t been in months πŸ™‚

Well, that’s mixed news. I’m glad you’re not leaving blogging but sorry to see this blog die. Still, Because Reading is a good home for you. Looking forward to seeing you there!

    • Berls

I agree – there’s definitely some sadness letting the blog go. It was a hard decision, but I’m feeling more excited about blogging than I have in months. So think it was the right one πŸ™‚

I know you’ve got a lot on your plate—teaching is a more than full-time job all on its own!—and I completely understand your decision. I’m glad you’re not leaving blogging entirely, though, and I look forward to seeing you over at Because Reading. You and Michelle are a good fit!

    • Berls

Thanks Lark πŸ™‚ I agree – I think I couldn’t have found a better home! Hopefully we don’t drive each other battty lol!

    • Berls

LOL I do think the “I have an idea moments” could get scary! But gah, thank you so much for taking me in. I feel like I can start fresh and I’m really excited to get going again. It’s what I needed!

I am glad your not leaving altogether but I know your dealing with a lot which can make a hobby just not fun anymore. I think this will be great for both you and Michelle.

    • Berls

Thanks Stormi πŸ™‚ I feel like a great weight has been lifted and I can start having fun again. So I think that means it was the right thing.

I am sorry to hear you’re leaving your blog for now, but I am glad to hear you still be around. That sounds like a great solution to stay at Because Reading for a while :).

Thanks – I feel such a weight lifted and more excitement about blogging than I have for months. So I think it was the right decision, hard as it was to decide to close down the blog.

    • Berls

Thanks! I was sad for a bit, but now I’m excited about blogging – and I haven’t been excited about blogging for months. So I think it’s a good thing!
