The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.
News at Home – Spring Break
Last week was my much anticipated – and NEEDED – spring break. I decided to make it a full break from the blog to so sorry for the sudden disappearance, but I’m back starting today.
It was a great week – Monday I spent deep cleaning the fridge, bathroom, and doing laundry. It was nice to get that done before the week really got going too much – get the work done first and then you can really play, right?
Tuesday I spent the morning blogging and then I had a couple appointments and then book club.
Wednesday I was out all day! I had an appointment (finally!) with a podiatrist (more on that in FitReaders update), and then off to my brothers to spend some time with him and my mom. We went to La Madeline’s for lunch, went to the dollar theater to see Arrival (so good!!) and then ended out day with Monster Yogurt. When I came home I blogged me little heart out to finish up blog ahead (more on that Blog News).
Thursday morning I kept up my blogging spree – If you’re ahead might as well get more ahead, right? Then I had another doctor’s appointment (more on the in FitReaders too). Notice all the appointments? It’s called, spring break – the only time I’m off while doctor’s offices are open! After that I got together with a couple teacher friends – we did Mani/pedis, dinner, and an early showing of Beauty and the Beast. I loved it!!!
I spent Friday watching tv shows on Netflix/hulu, while laminating my little heart out for stations for the rest of the school year. I’m finally ahead again, which feels nice.
Saturday I got together with a friend for Whirly Ball- basketball in a bumper car with lacross sticks. Sound challenging? Yeah, it really was. But it was also crazy fun.
And today I’ll be going to the Fitness Marshall’s Fitness Concert! Spring break is super busy for me, huh? But gah what a fun, relaxing week! I feel like I got so much accomplished and had a fun time. I’m ready to head back to work rejuvenated. 🙂
The Politics of it all
Before I get going I wanted to share a great new blog Felicia the Geeky Blogger has started to help people understand how to keep themselves informed about politics. She’s not presenting any personal views, she’s just showing you how to use the tools available to you, rather than relying on media. I already use several of the tools she’s showcasing so far, and I know they are great. She’s also made me realize ways I could use them even better! Go check it out so you can arm yourself, regardless of your political stance.
Last Saturday – March 11th – I went to an ACLU training event and it was great! I’ve been making calls and sending emails on my own, but now I’ve finally managed to connect with the people acting in my area. I had already connected with groups in the metroplex, but now it’s the people in my zip code. I was really excited by ACLU’s agenda, which is first of all focused on immigration and Trump’s attack on so-called “Sanctuary Cities.” Since immigration is my top issue, that was encouraging.
I was busy on the phones this week – here in Texas we have a lot of VERY BAD legislation making it’s way through our Senate and Congress. SB6 – the so-called “bathroom bill”. GRR! This bill pisses me off so badly because it’s an attack on one of our most vulnerable groups and further vilifies them and marks them as dangerous when they are actually the targets of violence more often than the perpetrators of it. Then we have SB4 – the “sanctuary cities bill”. This one is very personal since my husband is an immigrant and this will put a giant target on him. Not looking good, but I’m staying on my phone! And then we have SB1750 and SB 175 – which are an attack on Teacher pensions. So very personal. They’re trying to say our fund isn’t solvent and convert them to a 401k type fund. Sorry, but we teachers get the shit end 90% of the time, leave our pensions alone please! It’s all we’ve got! And then SB3 to setup school vouchers, basically beginning the defunding of public schools. This is so dangerous because education is the fabric of our society. The less we provide good education to the poor and disadvantaged and disabled, the worse our society will become. And public schools are held accountable for their education of all people – private schools are not. They are not required to educate anyone willing to pay (or present a voucher, which honestly wouldn’t cover the costs to help most poor make the switch anyway) and they are not held accountable for the education they provide. It’s so dangerous!
And TrumpCare – OMG! Paul Ryan’s plan is disastrous and the way their trying to push it through is scary. And since Republicans are trying to pass a budgetary bill as opposed to an actual health care plan – because they don’t want to be susceptible to a filibuster – this is probably what we’re going to get. So unless your rich or super healthy, say goodbye to your affordable health care 🙁 What’s really sad is that so many of the people who are going to be hurt by the new health care plan are the people who voted for Trump. 🙁
Well I managed to get way ahead on my blogging (for me). Blog ahead mini was a success for me and I’m 15 posts ahead as of now, with several more drafted just waiting for details to be plugged in. Hopefully I can keep it up 🙂
COYER is over and I sent out prizes this week – so if you won something from me, look for it in the mail soon!
If you have ever participated in COYER or think you ever will, do me a favor and head over to this post: Should I hang on to these books? I’m taking a poll of interest in giveaway books, because I need to clear out some space. Thanks!
So last Saturday I did a 5k and was sore for days! Even though I do regularly walk 5k, I think I pushed myself harder than I normally do and it was a great time. And since it was a St. Paddy’s themed walk, it ended with beer 🙂
Today I have a Fitness Concert with the Fitness Marshall 🙂 I’ve been doing his videos as my daily workout routine for about a month now and when I discovered he was having a fitness concert locally I had to go. Really looking forward to it.
Next Saturday I have ANOTHER 5k! Next Saturday is the Color Run – a fun run dedicated to supporting Cancer research, survivors, etc. Looking forward to it. March is turning out to be a fitness filled month for me 🙂
I managed to get into a podiatrist this week! Yay! I got a cortisone shot and it hurt like a bitch – not when I got the shot but the rest of the day. However, since then my foot has been feeling much better! *happy dance* I’m taking pills at night that are really helping with that beginning of the day foot pain.
