Just a few WTZ books I read

February 17, 2017 Just a Few Books I Read, Reviews 2

Just a few

Sometimes I just can’t pull off a review, but still want to share what I’ve read. When that happens, I’ll share them in this feature 🙂

I’ll preface all these reviews by stating that I refuse to read these books – they MUST be experienced in audio. Allison McLemore could not be MORE PERFECT for Angel! She delivers with all the characters and is easily in my top 5 of narrators. The snark and humor of this series reaches a new level with McLemore delivering the lines. This is a series I often recommend to those hesitant about audiobooks, because I know McLemore will suck them in. An A+ narrator.

Just a few WTZ books I readWhite Trash Zombie Apocalypse by Diana Rowland
Narrator: Allison McLemore
Series: White Trash Zombie #3
Published by Audible Studios, DAW on July 2, 2013
Genres: Urban Fantasy
Length: 9 hours 30 minutes
Format: Audiobook

Narrator Rating: A+

Our favorite white trash zombie, Angel Crawford, has enough problems of her own, what with dealing with her alcoholic, deadbeat dad, issues with her not-quite boyfriend, the zombie mafia, industrial espionage and evil corporations. Oh, and it’s raining, and won’t let up.

But things get even crazier when a zombie movie starts filming in town, and Angel begins to suspect that it’s not just the plot of the movie that's rotten. Soon she's fighting her way through mud, blood, bullets and intrigue, even as zombies, both real and fake, prowl the streets.

Angel’s been through more than her share of crap, but this time she’s in way over her head. She’ll need plenty of brainpower to fit all the pieces—and body parts—together in order to save herself, her town, and quite possibly the human race.

Such a fun series, I’m glad to finally be back to it. Angel had really grown and changed so much in WTZ Apocalypse! I’m so proud of her. Love seeing her realize her own potential and worth. And the relationship with her dad is a heart-wrenching one. A good heart-to-heart with her dad in WTZ Apocalypse that makes me even more excited for their relationship and future. All that, And Angel still makes me LMAO.

The mystery again focused on Saberton – the big bad of the series – and the Zombie Mofia. The mystery kept me engaged and shocked me a few times. I’m looking forward to the ultimate showdown between Saberton and the Zombie Mofia.

4.5 stars I loved it

Just a few WTZ books I readHow the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back by Diana Rowland
Narrator: Allison McLemore
Series: White Trash Zombie #4
Published by Audible Studios, DAW on July 1, 2014
Genres: Urban Fantasy
Length: 14 hours 21 minutes
Format: Audiobook
Source: Purchased
Narrator Rating: A+

It’s zombie versus zombie as the Saberton Corporation declares war against the Zombie Mafia, kidnapping several of their party. It falls to Angel to lead the remnants of her gang halfway across the country to claw their way through corporate intrigue, zombie drugs, and undead trafficking to rescue her friends—and expose the traitor responsible for their abduction...

I’m continuing to love Angel’s growth! Unlike some series, Angel is a character that makes tangible advances in her growth with each book. In How the WTZ Got Her Groove Back, Angel FINALLY stands up to her boyfriend Marcus. He’s a good guy, but I think because she’s so used to crap boyfriends, it took her a while to realize that she still deserved better than what he was giving her. So that was a great moment for the WTZ series.

It was also really cool to get some development about zombies can do – they can actually be quite a bit more bad ass than realized. HOWEVER, I’m concerned what this development for Angel, who clearly has an addictive personality :/

I wasn’t as big of a fan of the mystery/plot story line this time – it was good, don’t get me wrong – but it just got a bit… too big? Suddenly this is bigger than sides in the zombie war and reeks of government conspiracy. I mean, congresswomen are involved! I don’t mind government conspiracy plots – but I like them to fit. How does our dear WTZ Angel Crawford find herself in the middle of something so high brow? *shrugs* Certainly didn’t kill it for me, just made it not my favorite.

4 stars Pretty Great

Just a few WTZ books I readWhite Trash Zombie Gone Wild by Diana Rowland
Narrator: Allison McLemore
Series: White Trash Zombie #5
Published by Audible Studios, DAW on Ocober 6, 2015
Genres: Urban Fantasy
Length: 11 hours 18 minutes
Format: Audiobook
Source: Purchased
Narrator Rating: A+

Angel Crawford has buried her loser past and is cruising along in undead high gear--that is, until a murder-by-decapitation sends her on a hazardous detour. As Angel hunts for the killer, she uncovers a scheme that would expose zombies to the public and destroy the life she's built, and she's determined not to rest until she finds out who's behind it.

Soon she's neck-deep in lies, redneck intrigue, zombie hunters, and rot-sniffing cadaver dogs. It's up to her to unravel the truth and snuff out the conspiracy before the existence of zombies makes headline news and she's outed as a monster.

But Angel hasn't quite escaped the pill-popping ghosts of her past--not with an illicit zombie pharmaceutical at her fingertips. Good thing she's absolutely sure she can handle the drug's unpredictable side effects and still take down the bad guys...or maybe she's only one bad choice away from being dead meat--for real this time.

Angel knows a thing or two about kicking ass, but now the ass she needs to kick might be her own.

Loved it loved it loved it! It was heartbreaking to see Angel hit by addiction again in WTZ Gone Wild yet heartwarming to see her handle it and the relationships she has built now that helped her in ways her old relationships only hindered her. Great action, mystery, and even some tears. Can’t wait for the next one! (Which is taking FOREVER, right? June 2017 I think…)

About Diana Rowland

Diana Rowland has lived her entire life below the Mason-Dixon line, uses “y’all” for second-person-plural, and otherwise has no southern accent (in her opinion.) She attended college at Georgia Tech where she earned a BS in Applied Mathematics, and after graduation forgot everything about higher math as quickly as possible.

She has worked as a bartender, a blackjack dealer, a pit boss, a street cop, a detective, a computer forensics specialist, a crime scene investigator, and a morgue assistant, which means that she’s seen more than her share of what humans can do to each other and to themselves. She won the marksmanship award in her Police Academy class, has a black belt in Hapkido, has handled numerous dead bodies in various states of decomposition, and can’t rollerblade to save her life.

She presently lives in south Louisiana with her husband and her daughter where she is deeply grateful for the existence of air conditioning.

I love this series. I can’t wait for the next one, which I hope will be out very soon. I was really disappointed with the ending of book 4 and Angel hanging out with her ex. I was also disappointed to see Angel addicted again. I’m glad that Doc stood with her (I think that was who it was, it’s been a while). Can’t wait until the next book comes out.

Okay, so I’ve read Rowland’s Kara Gillian series (although I’m not caught up) and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I figured I would like this series because I like her writing but…zombies. I’m not such a fan. However, you make me think I might be able to handle them since you make this series seem like quite a bit of fun! 🙂 Perhaps I’ll listen though…that may help with, you know…the zombies.
Happy Friday, Berls! You’ve almost made it to the weekend. I hope you’ve had a great week and that you have some fun planned for the weekend. At least some relaxing. 😉
