Sunday Post | Happy 2017!

January 1, 2017 Sunday Post 20

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home – Happy 2017!

We made it to 2017 y’all! I was ready to say goodbye to 2016 but I’m definitely anxious about what 2017 has in store for us. I guess time will only tell! I hope everyone had a great Holiday!

I took an unplanned break from blogging over the past few weeks. I just had a ton going on with school wrapping up for the semester and then I was tired and needed to just take a complete break from everything. But I’m back and ready for a great year. I had a wonderful holiday with my family and by some miracle my family seems to have finally realized that I look books. I know, right?! So for Christmas this year I got so many book related gifts! No books or gift cards for books, but some really nice book things – a book necklace, a Pride and Prejudice scarf, Harry Potter items galore!

Now I’m ready to head back to work. I did a surprisingly small of work over break – but I still feel ready. I went in yesterday to kind of take an assessment of what I need to accomplish tomorrow. And then the kids will be back on Tuesday. I have to admit, I missed them and can’t wait to see how much they’ve grown over break. I really hope they haven’t completely forgotten how to be in school 🙂

Blog News

I’m hoping to be scheduled out for a full 2 weeks by time this posts – if not at least a week. In my dream world a month, but we all know that’s not happening anytime soon. I didn’t do much blogging with my break, but I did transfer the blog from one hosting server to another. The first time I did it was for COYER’s blog and OMG it took days and was a disaster. But it sure shows that you learn by making mistakes because this time…. this time I didn’t have any trouble at all! It still took a couple days because I had so much to move, but it wasn’t fraught with mistakes. Yay!

I’m not participating in many challenges this year… in fact, just one. My 2017 Reading Assignment Challenge. I saw several that sounded great and had my name written all over them. But then I had to get realistic and admit I wasn’t going to be able to keep up with them. But I’m reading for my #2017HW thanks to everyone voting. Check out my final reading list!

#FitReaders Update

It’s time to recommit for January and OMG I really have a lot of recommitting to do. For one, I’ve slipped working out a lot. But more importantly my diet has sucked this past month. Y’all I gained like 20 pounds! It takes so much for me to lose and all I have to do is look at a piece of cake to gain 5 pounds… and I didn’t just look this holiday season. I ate. But I’m not going to make a huge deal out of it, I’m just refocusing. I’ve reworked my diet to something I think I can easily stick to. And I’ve decided gym just wasn’t working because the end of the day is just too hard. So I’m going to wake up 45 minutes early M-F to work out. Wish me luck, I’ll need it!

      Happy New Year Jen! I love FitReaders, it really helps me stay motivated 🙂 I agree 2017 has to be better than 2016! {HUGS}

      Oh that’s awesome! I would love all of January off! Yeah – school at Christmas time is hard. The kids are just to excited. But they’re doing good now that we’re back and all that excitement is over 🙂

    *gasp* A P&P scarf?? You’ll have to post a pic of you with it on. I’d love that! 🙂
    I’m glad you took a break and enjoyed your holiday. Sounds like you’ve refocused in all pertinent areas and are ready to kick 2017! Good luck with the new workout schedule. I’d rather workout in the morning myself but I have to wait til the kids go to school since my workout equipment is in the basement – and that the girls’ room, too. 🙂
    Let’s cheer each other on with FitReaders. I know I need it. I gained at least 10 pounds in the last months of 2016 and I’m motivated to get it off! Good luck with your challenge as well. I took on more challenges this year…I hope I don’t regret that.
    Have a great week, Berls! {{{hugs}}}

      I posted a couple of pictures in this week’s Sunday Post. You’d love it 🙂

      I gained at least 10 pounds over break as well, but I’ve lost some of it already this week. We can do it! Love #FitReaders 🙂

      Good luck with all your challenges! Happy Sunday {{HUGS}}

    Book related gifts are the best! My husband and I have stopped really buying Christmas gifts for each other and instead go each have a little shopping spree and you reminded me that I forgot to go check out Out of Print! I love their bookish stuff. Right around the holidays is hard to get anything done for anyone but I can imagine it’s 10 times harder when you’re a teacher! Enjoy your reading and I hope you have a nice break before school starts. Happy New Year!

      I’m unfamiliar with Out of Print, but if they have great bookish stuff I guess I need to check them out! I like the idea of a shopping spree – maybe we should start doing that. Hope you’re new year is off to a great start 🙂

  3. Literary Feline

    I am not entirely sure what this new year will hold, but hopefully it will be a good one. It sounds like you had a nice Christmas. Hopefully the busy-ness will slow down some, although with school starting back up, I’m not sure it will for you. My daughter has one more week off before heading back to school. She was having a really rough time of it between Thanksgiving and Winter Break. She just didn’t want to do her work in class or out of it. She’d been doing so well too . . . Hopefully it won’t take her long to settle back into the school routine and stick to her work this time.

    I will likely be taking a blogging break after this week–maybe for a week or two. I like to do that in January to kind of regroup. I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

      I hope you’re daughter has a good week back this week. Don’t worry about her having a rough time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, quite a few kids struggle with the excitement of the holidays.

      Hope your new year is going well!

    • Berls

      It does help get the day going right working out first thing in the morning. Hope your 2017 is off to a good start!

    Happy New Year!

    It may seem hard to get used to at first, but I love working out first thing in the morning. By doing it right away, you get it out of the way and don’t have to find time for it later in the day when lots of other things are competing for your attention. I also love going through my day knowing that I’ve already done my workout. It makes me feel quite virtuous LOL.

    • Berls

      I agree – it is a good way to start the day. I’m getting used to it fairly well actually, though it was hard to wake up the first couple days.

      Hope you’re 2017 is off to a good start!

  5. Michelle @ Because Reading

    I am very glad you were able to take a nice break! You deserved it!
    I too want to be at least 2 weeks ahead and have a lot to do to get to that point. I don’t think the first two weeks of this month it will happen but I am determined to get it done. I want to make this a productive year!

    Happy New Year, My friend! Wishing you all the best and hoping this year brings you everything you wish for and more.

    Have a great week and Happy Reading! ox

      I’m not two weeks ahead yet, but I seem to be maintaining one week so I guess that’ll do for now 🙂 Happy Sunday!

  6. Melanie Simmons

    I’ve been really bad this time of year too. I know I’ve gained a lot of weight. I’m like you, struggle to lose that a single pounds and can gain weight by looking at food. I’ve got to start doing something more than just getting my steps in (though I fail at time sometimes too). I hope you have a great 2017. Happy New Years.

      It was one of the worst holiday seasons for me for food and weight that I can remember. But 2017 is off to a good start both food and weight-wise and I’m not doing anything too radical, so hopefully it will keep going well. Happy 2017, hope yours is off to a good start as well!

  7. Lexxie

    Happy New Year, Berls! I hope 2017 will be a fantastic year for you, filled with love, joy, peace, happiness, success and good health 🙂
    I’m glad you were able to take a real break, we all need them sometimes 🙂 And just spending time with family is really important.
    Here’s to a great week with some good books xoxo

      I agree, a good break with family is really essential sometimes. I think taking that break helped my New Year get off to a good start. Hope yours is going well so far too! xoxxo
