Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home: Getting Back in the Groove

Wow, this week was Looong! I really let myself get out of my regular groove over break and my body was none to happy with me this week! Monday was my first day sort of back – I didn’t technically have to work, but seeing as the kids were coming Tuesday I went in to get ready for them. I woke up at my new regular time – 5am so I can work out – and by 6pm I was yawning! But I think it was the right decision because I feel asleep on time and waking up at 5am the next day wasn’t quite as hard. In fact, I woke up before my alarm both Tuesday and Wednesday!

Tuesday was a rough day, however. For the most part my kids were actually really good. It just didn’t feel that way because my one kiddo who tends to be the most difficult behavior was off the charts bad. OMG, he didn’t follow rules all day and every time there was a consequence for his behavior it was screaming and yelling. I had to send him to another teacher, just so my kids would get a chance to learn something! I was exhausted by the end of the day… and pretty sure he spent the past two weeks of break not getting any of his medicine :/

By Thursday, I was REALLY struggling to get out of bed at 5am. Part of the problem was my feet. On Wednesday it got really cold (shhh Michelle! 35 is cold!) and I wore my leggings and boots. My boots are very cute, but really don’t have the support for a job where you’re primarily on your feet. Wednesday after work I hobbled into Walmart and bought some Dr. Scholls. Too late for Wednesday, but hopefully they’ll save my feet another time. But Thursday I didn’t want to get up because standing was going to HURT. I have one of these balls with spikes all over it to roll under my feet. I did that for a good ten minutes Thursday morning before getting up. I think I have Plantar Fasciitis – because the pain is in my heel. Thankfully my Dr. Scholl’s, which I put in my tennis shoes Thursday – really helped (Thursday was a jeans day Thank goodness!). Oh and I rocked my new Pride and Prejudice Scarf. Here’s a couple of pictures of me in it (as requested by Brandee):

I actually wore it on Sunday too – this is me buying my new Chrome Book with my P&P scarf. I love this picture because you can really see how much weight I’ve lost 🙂

This is the scarf, worn a little differently. And the background is my classroom before the kids arrive!

Friday it snowed. Seriously y’all I may have been born in NY but there’s a reason I’ve never had a desire to go back. I hate the cold. I hate snow. I DETEST ice. It’s even worse as a teacher. Try getting kids to be quiet when they see snow falling. My luck, we were in the hallway and they saw it out the door at the end of the hall. Hallways are one of the most important times to be quiet and it was a lost cause. And dismissal? OMG! It was so cold and I was the one with the kids, who were sitting inside. So I got to stay partly behind a half-opened door. But the kids were so excited about the snow, they weren’t paying attention to me calling their names to go to their car. *sigh* To be five and not see snow as the huge pain in the ass it is.

However, it was seriously cute watching them watch the snow. When we got back to our classroom after the first snow sighting, they had to do some work. But as they finished their work they asked me if they could sit by the window. Usually early finishers have choices of things they can do and watching out the window is not one of the choices LOL! BUT this did seem like a good opportunity to let them do some active learning so I told them yes, but only if they were watching like scientists. They KNOW that scientist don’t just watch, they OBSERVE and RECORD. So all I had to say was, “if you look out the window like a scientist” and they grabbed their science notebooks and started drawing the snow and writing about what they saw. I tried so hard to get a picture of them to share – because a good 12 kids ended up by the window! – but I couldn’t get one without their faces in it 🙁 You’ll have to just trust me. It was seriously cute. And moments like this are why my job is the best. Sure I still hate snow. But it was really cool to see it from the perspective of a 5 year old. So new and shiny and cool.

Back to the bleak side of the snow, though. Y’all I live in Dallas. People in Dallas suck at driving in general. Add snow and ice and it’s just a clusterfuck. I left work at 5:30. Normally that means I would be home no later than 6pm. I got home at 7:15. Most of that I spent just sitting because my drive home involves a lot of overpasses and for some reason these idiots still haven’t learned that overpasses tend to be icy when the rest of the roads aren’t. So there were lots of accidents. And I almost got hit by an idiot when taking my exit – on an overpass – for my home. I was like, “You will not hit me when I’ve made it this far!” Thank goodness they swerved and missed me as they skidded all over the ice. And they luckily didn’t even hit the wall.

So my plan for this weekend (I’m writing this Saturday morning) is to stay home and away from the horrible cold as much as possible. I may venture out today (Saturday) to do my nails, because they are a hot mess. And we probably will go to Franky’s mom’s house, but I wish we could go see them without going outside. Thankfully it’s supposed to warm up this week! I hope this was it for winter!

Blog News

So… on Sunday I bought myself a Chromebook. I have a desktop but it’s hooked up to my treadmill desk. And while I use it a lot, sometimes you just need to sit on your ass and work. LOL! Kiko had made me a bench and that helps, but still, it’s not as cozy as sitting on the couch. So now my Chromebook is for blogging and it’s making it so much easier! I have a set hour in my schedule for blogging at the end of the day and so far, *fingers crossed* I’m staying a full week ahead. Yay!

#FitReaders Update

That new regular wake up time of 5am? That’s because I moved my workouts to the mornings. It sucked, in that I had to wake up earlier. But wow, does it feel good to get that out of the way early in the day. I like my classes at the gym, but this is clearly going to work better. I’ve been sampling different Prime workout videos trying to find one I love as much as Zumba at the gym. And I’m going to incorporate some toning/weight lifting as well. I tried one out on Tuesday that, after less than a minute, I KNEW it wasn’t for me. It’s definitely trial and error, but worth it. I did my workouts at 5am M-F and am taking my time off this weekend.

I also reevaluated my eating habits and have been eating much healthier… so far this week. I do plan on letting myself get a little looser on the weekend, but still tracking everything I eat so it shouldn’t be too bad. I’m off to a good start with January!

I hope the weather will get better. It’s been weird for recent years. Do you think that because of global warming? Did it come here yet?

  2. Lark

I love it that you are taking such good care of yourself! And you look fantastic in your P&P scarf! We gave up our gym membership because we weren’t going, which means I need to get out and walk and/or do some yoga or something everyday. But it’s been beastly cold since we got home, especially this weekend. It was 11 when we left for church on Sunday morning! Brrrr. Too cold to walk. And before it got so cold, it was raining. A lot. So I haven’t gotten to start my workouts yet. I will take my inspiration from you and start doing something in the morning, before I start working.

You are such a good and creative teacher. Great job getting the kids to “observe” and “record” the snow!

And I’m so glad that other driver didn’t hit you. Virginia drivers aren’t much better in the snow (at least the ones who don’t live in the mountains), so I sympathize with your frustration.

Have a wonderful week, my friend!

Thanks for posting the pictures of you in your P&P scarf!! I love it! And I thought the same thing when I saw the first picture of you….”Wow, she’s lost weight!” You’re looking great but you’ve always been beautiful! 😀
I hope this week is going more smoothly that last. And I also hope you have no snow this week. We got a couple of inches over night but we’re just used to it. 😉 I’m also hoping your problem child is back on his meds properly so everyone in the classroom is getting to be productive.
Congrats on your chromebook. I have one as well and I love it!
Good luck in keeping your groove. It sounds like you’re doing well but I know it can be difficult. I’m having issues and I don’t work. Berk and Jax are back in school this week though so it’s getting easier. 🙂
    Have a great week!! {{{hugs}}}

That is awesome that you turned the snow into science. To quote Adam Savage, “remember kids, the only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.” I’m the exact opposite, I grew up in Atlanta and South Georgia. I can’t stand the heat. I will never move back to the south for that exact reason. I can always put on more clothes. At some point, I have to stop taking them off. I hope that you’re off to a great week.

Heading back to work after a break is sooo hard. Glad you survived the first week back (even though it sounds like Tuesday was a killer). Love your P&P scarf! I am so beyond impressed that you stay a week ahead in blogging. Almost without fail I am scrambling to put together posts the very day they’re going up. What can I say, I like to live on the edge. LOL

The pictures are great and you look awesome! I bet you are excited about your Chrome book as well. If snow makes your kids as hyper as it made my dogs on Thursday and Friday, then I totally feel for you. I only have 2 and you had a room full! You are so dedicated to get up early and exercise. I like to sleep too much and now that I’ve been hooked on Parenthood, I find myself watching it once I crawl in bed at night (we moved our old TV in the bedroom during the holidays when we bought a new smart tv), I end up staying up too late watching episodes. Only on episode 14 but am loving is so far. Either way, it would make getting up earlier IMPOSSIBLE!

I love that scarf and you look great! I work long days too so I need to start working out in the mornings, otherwise I’ll make excuses at night. Thanks for the motivation!! I hope you have a great week!

I hate going back to work after a break! And 5am- wow. I hear you on the snow and ice- you would not like the weather here lol. the roads have been slippery for days…

I’ve heard that plantar fasciitis is really painful. I hope it goes away and you don’t have problems with it…

Congrats on the chromebook! Looking forward to seeing your Starflight review!

We got snow here, and even though its pretty common in Ohio, my high school students were uncontrollable! They were staring out the window all day. Ugh!
I get up to get my work out over in the morning as well. I really think it helps me wake up. If I don’t work out first thing, I am tired all day!

I love the photos of you and the scarf, very gorgeous. And the story of the children watching the snow. You have to admit it could be contemplative as well as scientific! Loved you had so many take up the option.

Thanks! I just love my scarf 🙂 Yes, it could definitely be contemplative! I just haven’t taught them that yet lol! So we had to go scientific. It was awesome to watch them.

I’ve heard a lot about the weather this week. I think I’m lucky because I’m in California where it’s not so cold well 50’s. Looks like you’ve had a very busy week. I think it’s amazing you teach the little ones, it takes a very special person to do what you do. My husband uses a baseball but he wears books for work every day. I hope you have a great week. Happy reading!!! My Sunday Post

    • Berls

Yeah, that weather is keeping us on our toes. I love where I live, but I would give a lot for Cali weather! Thanks, I love my job – it’s a real treat.

  12. Lola

Oh that is early to get out of bed, no wonder you were tired by 6pm, but at least it made it easier to go to bed at the right time that day. That looks like a great scarf and it’s neat you can wear it different ways as well.

That does sound cute to see the kids get all excited about snow, can’t really blame them as even now I still find it mesmerizing when it falls out of the sky. It is pretty as long as you don’t have to go anywhere, then it’s a pain. I am glad to hear you got to home safety, but that’s just crazy how long your drive back lasted. I hope this will be a good week!

LOL yeah, it’s too early to be honest. But I’ll get used to it. I already woke up on my own at 5am yesterday (my day off) so I guess my body is adjusting.

I agree, snow is pretty to look at. I just don’t want to leave the house while it’s around. Cold and dangerous! Have a great week Lola!

35? I wear shorts! 🙂 Today is 16 and now we are getting into really cold area for me. I tend to avoid the outdoors anywhere below 15 degrees. However, sometimes opening the window just a little is very nice 🙂

I really need to get on track with my eating habits, I have let myself go for so long and need to get on track again. Now that I quit smoking, I need to get the weight under control so I can really be healthy 🙂

I love my laptop, best thing I ever bought 🙂

Have a great week, Berls! Happy Reading xoxo Miss you!!!!

Yeah, yea. It got down to the teens here too though on Friday 🙁 *brrrr* I pulled out the heated blanket!

One thing at a time! I’m just so proud of you for quitting smoking, keep that up and the rest will follow eventually! Miss you bunches! xoxox
