The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.
News at Home: Getting Back in the Groove
Wow, this week was Looong! I really let myself get out of my regular groove over break and my body was none to happy with me this week! Monday was my first day sort of back – I didn’t technically have to work, but seeing as the kids were coming Tuesday I went in to get ready for them. I woke up at my new regular time – 5am so I can work out – and by 6pm I was yawning! But I think it was the right decision because I feel asleep on time and waking up at 5am the next day wasn’t quite as hard. In fact, I woke up before my alarm both Tuesday and Wednesday!
Tuesday was a rough day, however. For the most part my kids were actually really good. It just didn’t feel that way because my one kiddo who tends to be the most difficult behavior was off the charts bad. OMG, he didn’t follow rules all day and every time there was a consequence for his behavior it was screaming and yelling. I had to send him to another teacher, just so my kids would get a chance to learn something! I was exhausted by the end of the day… and pretty sure he spent the past two weeks of break not getting any of his medicine :/
By Thursday, I was REALLY struggling to get out of bed at 5am. Part of the problem was my feet. On Wednesday it got really cold (shhh Michelle! 35 is cold!) and I wore my leggings and boots. My boots are very cute, but really don’t have the support for a job where you’re primarily on your feet. Wednesday after work I hobbled into Walmart and bought some Dr. Scholls. Too late for Wednesday, but hopefully they’ll save my feet another time. But Thursday I didn’t want to get up because standing was going to HURT. I have one of these balls with spikes all over it to roll under my feet. I did that for a good ten minutes Thursday morning before getting up. I think I have Plantar Fasciitis – because the pain is in my heel. Thankfully my Dr. Scholl’s, which I put in my tennis shoes Thursday – really helped (Thursday was a jeans day Thank goodness!). Oh and I rocked my new Pride and Prejudice Scarf. Here’s a couple of pictures of me in it (as requested by Brandee):
Friday it snowed. Seriously y’all I may have been born in NY but there’s a reason I’ve never had a desire to go back. I hate the cold. I hate snow. I DETEST ice. It’s even worse as a teacher. Try getting kids to be quiet when they see snow falling. My luck, we were in the hallway and they saw it out the door at the end of the hall. Hallways are one of the most important times to be quiet and it was a lost cause. And dismissal? OMG! It was so cold and I was the one with the kids, who were sitting inside. So I got to stay partly behind a half-opened door. But the kids were so excited about the snow, they weren’t paying attention to me calling their names to go to their car. *sigh* To be five and not see snow as the huge pain in the ass it is.
However, it was seriously cute watching them watch the snow. When we got back to our classroom after the first snow sighting, they had to do some work. But as they finished their work they asked me if they could sit by the window. Usually early finishers have choices of things they can do and watching out the window is not one of the choices LOL! BUT this did seem like a good opportunity to let them do some active learning so I told them yes, but only if they were watching like scientists. They KNOW that scientist don’t just watch, they OBSERVE and RECORD. So all I had to say was, “if you look out the window like a scientist” and they grabbed their science notebooks and started drawing the snow and writing about what they saw. I tried so hard to get a picture of them to share – because a good 12 kids ended up by the window! – but I couldn’t get one without their faces in it 🙁 You’ll have to just trust me. It was seriously cute. And moments like this are why my job is the best. Sure I still hate snow. But it was really cool to see it from the perspective of a 5 year old. So new and shiny and cool.
Back to the bleak side of the snow, though. Y’all I live in Dallas. People in Dallas suck at driving in general. Add snow and ice and it’s just a clusterfuck. I left work at 5:30. Normally that means I would be home no later than 6pm. I got home at 7:15. Most of that I spent just sitting because my drive home involves a lot of overpasses and for some reason these idiots still haven’t learned that overpasses tend to be icy when the rest of the roads aren’t. So there were lots of accidents. And I almost got hit by an idiot when taking my exit – on an overpass – for my home. I was like, “You will not hit me when I’ve made it this far!” Thank goodness they swerved and missed me as they skidded all over the ice. And they luckily didn’t even hit the wall.
So my plan for this weekend (I’m writing this Saturday morning) is to stay home and away from the horrible cold as much as possible. I may venture out today (Saturday) to do my nails, because they are a hot mess. And we probably will go to Franky’s mom’s house, but I wish we could go see them without going outside. Thankfully it’s supposed to warm up this week! I hope this was it for winter!
So… on Sunday I bought myself a Chromebook. I have a desktop but it’s hooked up to my treadmill desk. And while I use it a lot, sometimes you just need to sit on your ass and work. LOL! Kiko had made me a bench and that helps, but still, it’s not as cozy as sitting on the couch. So now my Chromebook is for blogging and it’s making it so much easier! I have a set hour in my schedule for blogging at the end of the day and so far, *fingers crossed* I’m staying a full week ahead. Yay!
That new regular wake up time of 5am? That’s because I moved my workouts to the mornings. It sucked, in that I had to wake up earlier. But wow, does it feel good to get that out of the way early in the day. I like my classes at the gym, but this is clearly going to work better. I’ve been sampling different Prime workout videos trying to find one I love as much as Zumba at the gym. And I’m going to incorporate some toning/weight lifting as well. I tried one out on Tuesday that, after less than a minute, I KNEW it wasn’t for me. It’s definitely trial and error, but worth it. I did my workouts at 5am M-F and am taking my time off this weekend.
I also reevaluated my eating habits and have been eating much healthier… so far this week. I do plan on letting myself get a little looser on the weekend, but still tracking everything I eat so it shouldn’t be too bad. I’m off to a good start with January!
