Just a few MacKenzies & McBrides I read

January 4, 2017 Just a Few Books I Read, Reviews 4

Just a few

Sometimes I just can’t pull off a review, but still want to share what I’ve read. When that happens, I’ll share them in this feature 🙂

I’ve been working on this series for a while now. I read a couple, take a break and when I come back I always wonder why I waited so long! I just love the characters and Jennifer Ashley’s writing, not to mention Angela Dawe’s narration. I recently read a couple and enjoyed them thoroughly.

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

four-stars

USA Today best-selling author and RITA Award winner Jennifer Ashley pens heart-pounding tales that keep listeners spellbound with torrid romance and finely crafted intrigue.

Juliana St. John faces the ultimate mortification when she's stood up on her wedding day. But then fate places her face-to-face with her first love, Elliot McBride, and she finds herself falling for her half-mad former paramour.

It was nice to be back with my two favorite Scottish families! I’ve neglected them for a while. As always, Jennifer Ashley has a way of making a great romance but infusing it with much stronger themes. In The Sedution of Elliot McBride it was PTSD. I find it so interesting to see these issues that we understand so much better now (and actually try to treat) in historical settings where they still struggled to understand what’s going on. I think Ashley does a fantastic job of handling the historical setting with our modern understandings.

I also really loved the characters – but that’s no surprise. Ashley creates such strong female characters and she matches them with men that are interesting, equally strong, but also appreciate their women. I love seeing this second-chance romance, the healing of Elliot McBride, not to mention a great mystery. Looking forward to reading more.

To redeem her family's disgraced name, Lady Louisa Scranton has decided to acquire a proper husband. He needs to be a man of fortune and highly respectable in order to restore both her family's lost wealth and reputation. She enters the Marriage Mart with all flags flying, determined to find the right bachelor.

But Louisa's hopes are dashed when the Bishop of Hargate drops dead at her feet—and she is shockingly accused of murder! Soon, Louisa's so-called friends begin shunning her, because the company of a suspected killer is never desirable in polite society.

The problem comes to the ears of Detective Inspector Lloyd Fellows, by-blow of the decadent Scottish Mackenzie family and an inspector for Scotland Yard. He has shared two passionate kisses with Lady Louisa—and vows to clear her name. For not only does he know she's innocent, he recognizes he's falling for the lovely lady.

Fellows is Louisa's only hope of restoring her family's honor—and it is he alone who intrigues Louisa in a way that may be even more scandalous than murder . . .

Detective Inspector Lloyd Fellows is a character I’ve wanted to see more of since he first appeared in book 1 of the series. It was great to see him in action and to see a little of the less wealthy side of England. Lady Louisa Scranton was less memorable for me, in that I know I’ve met her before but can’t remember much about her. I ended up really liking Louisa and she fits well into the family of strong determined women. The mystery in this one was one of the better ones too.

As always, I can’t imagine not listening to this series. Angela Dawe makes my top 10 narrator list every time I try to make one – she’s just too great! She captures the voices and characters so well – really bringing them to life. Even at 2x sped that I listen at!

    Why, oh why haven’t I started this series, Berls??? You know I adore Scots. 😉 And I’m a fan of KAshley’s shifters. I even own a few of the MacKenzies and McBrides. Hmph! I’ll see what I can do to rectify this issue in 2017. 😉 I’m so happy you enjoyed spending time with a few of your favorite Scots. And since you’re such a fan of the audio, I’ll see if my library has them.
    Happy Wednesday, my friend! I’m hoping day #2 with the kiddos back is going well! {{{HUGS}}}
