The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.
News at Home – Book Fun Galore!
I’m in the midst of Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon at the moment! It’s currently hour 18. I’m having a blast and, though I doubt I’ll make it the full 24 hours, I’m feeling like I’ve got a couple more hours in me.
And tomorrow is Buns and Roses, a charity event Ive been attending for three years now. I have blast, get to mingle with authors I love and buy books 🙂 This year my mom and Franky’s step mom are coming with me, sitting at Darynda Jones’s table. I’m super excited!
On the school front – this week was another good one, with a couple down moments. I had duty, which means staying my day 20 minutes earlier – but to be ready 20 minutes earlier I really have to start about 40 minutes earlier. So by Friday, I was exhausted. Actually, Thursday I came home and passed out. The other downer is that one of my kiddos – one that I’ve been having major issues with angry outbursts and emotionally shutting down – told me his mom’s nose finally stopped bleeding from his dad hitting her. He told me he hits her a lot. And does drugs. #heartbreaking
This is the part of my job that sucks. I hate how many times I’ve had things like this in just the two years I’ve been teaching. I just want to wrap him up and take away all the hurt he’s feeling. No wonder he’s violent, angry, and an emotional mess. So I filed my CPS report. Hope something comes of it, but I know now how often nothing does. And that just sucks.
On the positive me kids are doing awesome. I had a great observation and my assistant principal told me she had no notes, what she saw was exactly what she looks for, so it was time to make a new goal. And she said they were incredibly happy they’d gone with their gut, hiring me over a lot of more experienced candidates. That made my day 🙂 I’m glad they did too!
Due to Dewey’s, I haven’t really moved ahead with my blog ahead posts. Maybe I’ll manage to get some in this week – if not, I’ll make a desperate last attempt next weekend.
I had a great fitness week. I made it to the the gym Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! Yoga, zumba and yoga again. Fridays I work late to get ready for next week – though I’m thinking I might switch that up and start staying late on Thursdays instead. I like yoga, but I like zumba more and zumba is Fridays. I also ate really well most the week.
Oh and on Monday – my day off – I met with a surgeon about possibly doing weight loss surgery. I’ve been successful on my own, but only to an extent. I know several people who’ve done will thanks to surgery and my insurance covers it finally, with a $5000 copay… So I’m thinking about it.
