Sunday Post | I feel like a REAL blogger again!

September 4, 2016 Sunday Post 19

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

Work continues to go GREAT! I had one bad-ish day this past week, because no classroom full of 20 kids is going to be free of trouble. I will admit I doubted myself after the incident (a kid lost his shit on me and destroyed our classroom, with like 0 warning) but my confidence is back. A big part of that is the support I have from my administration. I called them during the incident and my AP was there in less than a minute, took control of the kid and let me take care of my class. Supported me in talking to the parents. Supported me in my discipline that the kid miss recess and clean up the room and apologize to the class. Supported me the next day by checking in with the kid. And checking in with me. Letting me know that they’re already getting the ball rolling to provide the behavioral and other potential needed supports in place. I never would have had any of that last year. I would have never had the option of calling and would have had to teach the class while doing my best to restrain the kid. Believe me, I did it. Many times. So I’m feeling good and loving my job. I have a three day weekend and I wasn’t counting down to it. Nope. It snuck up on me.

Oh and I got a compliment from one of the specials teachers – she told me that my class is always so well behaved when they come to her, it’s clear that I’m doing really well with them. She said she could never do what I do, her 45 minutes a day with Kinder is all she can handle. So yeah, I’m one happy girl right now 🙂

Blog News- I feel like a REAL blogger again!

You may or may not have noticed, but I visited blogs this week. Every day. Every morning. I visited a handful of blogs, left comments, PARTICIPATED in our world! *happy dance* I’ve tried so many times to find the time and space since last August and not once have I felt I really could. I would come up with plans but the pressure and workload made it so that even if I tried to take the time, my mind wasn’t really with the blogs. Even this summer, I felt so much pressure to be ready for this new opportunity that I just never really made it back. But I feel almost NO PRESSURE in this new job. I feel competent and capable. Trusted. And that seems to mean, I can blog again. And I’m furiously knocking on wood right now. Join me please 🙂

I sat down yesterday and planned out the month of September’s blog posts, which is a lot of work when you’ve essentially not blogged for a year. And it felt great. Let’s hope I’m really back 🙂

#FitReaders Update

With the positive work situation I have, I think this is about to get a lot better too. I’m consistently off work by 4 or 4:30 these days. Which means reactivating my gym membership makes lots of sense. I’m broke at the moment because of the different pay days in the school district I used to teach for and my new one, so that won’t be until the end of this month. But I’m already looking at class schedules and planning how I can add it back to my schedule.

I have not been eating the best though. My school is right by a Jack in the Box and despite generally disliking the way fast food makes me feel, I’ve stopped more times than I care to admit. Which is bad for the scale, how I feel, and the aforementioned cash flow issues. I started putting my purse in the trunk when I leave school on Wednesday this week – thereby cutting myself off from my wallet and the last minute succumbing to temptation. It worked. So hopefully I’m done with that mess!

I cannot tell you HOW HAPPY I am for you and your work situation. What a wonderful improvement – to be treated with respect and have the type of support one SHOULD have in the classroom. YES!! *fist pump*

And yea for your positive efforts to take control in the fitness realm. That is a smart idea about putting your purse out of reach to avoid temptation. I’ll have to keep that one in mind.

    Sounds like a great week!

Thanks Anna, it feels so good to be back. It’s amazing what having support does! I’m enjoying my job and I come home feeling tired, but not mentally and emotionally drained. It awesome 🙂

*knocking on wood* I can’t tell you how pleased I am for you that your school year is off to such a great start and that things are the *complete* opposite of what you experienced last year. I know how important it is to have the support of your administration and I know you’re grateful since you lived a year without such support. AND I’m so happy that this all means you’ll be back in the blogosphere. (I’m being positive and optimistic, see?) I’ve missed you being around and it’s so good to have you back!
Good for you working out strategies for blogging, working, exercising, and avoiding temptation in the form of fast food. I know how that goes only my vice is fancy coffee. And I’m in trouble at this time of year because Pumpkin.Spice.Lattes!! Soooo freaking good! LOL Anyway, keep up the good work, my dear. Everything will fall into place.
    Enjoy your week! {{hugs}}

I’m still getting back into the blogging zone after taking some time off and not reading as many as I’d like. I tend to binge read and binge blog in fits and starts.

I’m glad you’re enjoying work despite the occasional behavioural issue and it sounds as if you handled yourself well and others thought so as well.

I totally get that, my past year has kind of been binge fits. Nothing steady until now.

Thanks – hoping work continues to work well 🙂 Happy reading!

Woo hoo! Berls is back! I’m so happy that your administration team is backing you up and providing support; that’s such a key component to successful classroom management. You sound so much happier and more confident, you’re like a new person. Enjoy your long weekend!

  5. Lola

I am so happy to hear your work continues to be great, even though there was one incident, but it sounds like the support you got is great and having that support probably makes a big difference. It sounds like a good school where you work now.

That’s awesome you got some time to visit blogs again. I noticed you stopping by a few times this week. I hope you’ll have a great week!

The support makes an enormous difference 🙂 I really hope this continues, I’m feeling much more like myself! Happy reading!

I am glad school is going well, with the exception of that one bad day. It sounds like you handled it well though, and the support from the school was awesome. I am glad you didn’t let it affect you for long. My daughter’s class has 28 students in it. Yikes. I can’t even imagine. I signed up to volunteer to help out when I am able. I won’t know whether I’ll be needed though until the end of the month. I guess the teachers like to have a month with the kids to bond and establish their routine. It makes sense.

It sounds like everything is falling into place for you, Berls! I am so glad. We have a new Assistant Director in my agency who is making a lot of changes, and it’s trickling down to us. Things are pretty tense right now. I hope things settle down soon. I had just got back into my exercise routine–had been at it thirty days (yay me!), when I got sick. I haven’t been able to workout since. I hope I am feeling better soon. I hate to go so long without it, especially since I had finally found a good groove again.

I hope you have a great week!

I want to scream from the rooftops! I am so happy that you have found the right place and are feeling much better! I am also happy you are feeling bloggy again. You need to rub some of that off on me 🙂 I wish I was feeling more in the right place. I think once school starts I will find my rhythm again. Maybe even be able to visit some blogs in the morning when I wake up before the sun with Ryan. This should be an interesting year.

Have a great week, Berls! Chat soon! Happy Reading! oxox

Congrats on your improved work situation! There’s nothing like having a supportive administration. Sorry your classroom was destroyed, though. Been there. Hopefully the supports nip this problem in the bud pronto, and you won’t have to deal with this problem any more.

Oh so impressed by the support you got for the misbehaving out of self control child. Kudos to the school and yourself. Lovely compliment from the specials teacher. Yeah Kinder is a challenge, I taught 5 year olds for a couple of years and I was always having to think what do I do now as they finished things so quick.
I did notice you visited – thank you!
