The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.
News at Home – We got married!
Wow, I had quite the week! So Kiko and I have been together for more than 11 years. We’ve never felt that need to get married – I’m not a white dress, fancy party kind of girl… I see it as a huge expense that I just can’t stomach. And well, Kiko’s a guy… so it’s probably not that surprising that a wedding isn’t a big deal to him either. But things have happened recently to family members that had us thinking that we just might like to have that legal, official protection.
So Monday, during Kiko’s lunch break we went and got a marriage license. We figured we’d get one and then get married sometime in the next three months. No rush. Well then Kiko was in a car accident on Tuesday. Thank God he wasn’t hurt and while the car was damaged it’s repairable. But it scared the shit out of me, especially because I knew that I had no rights if he had been hurt and had to go to the hospital. I wasn’t his wife, just a long time girlfriend. So we started talking about doing it sooner than we had initially planned.
Then Thursday we went and found some wedding bands we liked for a good, cheap price. We bought them, to have on hand. What I didn’t know, was that Kiko also bought an engagement band after I left.
Thursday night he called me to come into the bedroom. He said he needed help with the computer (a frequent thing that he knows frustrates me). So I walked in frustrated, to find him waiting on one knee and holding the ring out. He smiled and said, “So, will you marry me? Tomorrow?” I laughed and said yes. And then I said, “wait, did you say tomorrow?” LOL! Turns out he’d asked to get out of work early on Friday already. So we called my brother and step-son to make arrangements to pick them up so they could be there.
Funnily enough, Kiko didn’t think to make an appointment. They did tell us that we didn’t have to, after all. So when we showed up at the courthouse we were shocked to find out that the JP was out on vacation. They called two other close-ish locations for us before they found a JP who was available. The location was about 25 minutes away. It was 3:15. Wedding ceremonies are conducted until 4. We flew out of there and made it to the other location at 3:45. Barely made it, but the JP who married us was awesome. He was funny and didn’t seem to mind at all that we were pushing it so close to the end of the day on a Friday. My brother and step-son signed as our witnesses and my mom was also there.
So yeah – this week involved getting a marriage license, a car accident (and the hassle of filing a claim), buying wedding bands, a proposal and a wedding. Oh and we went out to dinner afterwards. It was a great time, but what a crazy week. I’m exhausted, which is okay because today we leave for our 2nd annual camping trip. Oh yeah, Saturday I was super busy getting ready for trip – groceries and packing. But I have three days and two nights of rest ahead of me.
Kinda great timing… A honeymoon I guess! If you’ve ever heard of taking honeymoon with your husband’s ex, her husband, her three kids (one is my stepson), her oldest son’s boyfriend, and her little sister. What can I say, we’re one big, crazy, happy family!

This week was shit for food. But I did get in a few long walks. I also did blood work in Friday to see if blood work I did last Friday was right. Looks like my prolactin level is a little elevated. From what I’ve read online that could impact my ability to lose weight (and cause infertility – the reason I did the blood work). If it comes back elevated again, I’ll need to do an MRI to see if I have a tumor in my pituitary gland. Apparently that’s the common cause, but it’s rarely cancerous so not something to be too worried about. So I’m hopeful, but not sure exactly what I’m hoping for if that makes sense. Answers are nice to have – but I would rather not have the imbalance and tumor for obvious reasons!
