Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home – School’s Out for Summer!

Sorry I’ve been MIA for the past month or so… things have been intense. I’d have to say the end of the school year is about as insane as the beginning. Add to that a psycho administration and lots of bullying from said administration and you’ve got my end of the year. I don’t want to get into details, because that would be one long rant, but needless to say, my summer will be spent looking for a new school. Well, June at least. My contract requires me to resign by July, so it’s find a job by July or spend another year at a pretty HORRIBLE school. Several teachers have encouraged me to go to the union about the shit the pulled with me the past few weeks; I just don’t want the drama. I just want to get out.

Minus the administration, though, the last month has been fairly incredible. My kids grew so much this year and it really kinda sucks saying goodbye to them. You spend 180 days being a pseudo-mom just to have to give them back at the end. I grew to love each and every one of them and saying goodbye was hard. I got emotional the last few days and at the end of the year party, when some of the parents that came got emotional, I struggled to keep it together. But they’re ready to move on. They can read, write, add, subtract, count to 100, tie their shoes, share, and so on and so on. I’ll never forget them, that’s for sure.

I spent Friday – my last work day, kids last day was Thursday – packing up my room. Thank goodness I started a bit the week before because that was a job and a half. I have acquired – bought – so much stuff this year! I filled my car – trunk, backseat, and front seat, floors and everything trying to pack it all up. Two other teachers and I rented a storage for all of our shit. I’m already dreading unpacking it all in 2 months! There has to be a better way…

Anyway… I have a busy summer ahead of me. Job search, working for Upward Bound like I always do (testing coordinator), continuing education hours, and preparing for the next school year. I also intend to do lots of writing and blogging this summer. I hope I’ve left some time in there for rest!

#FitReaders Update

Moving out of a classroom is a killer workout! I had 12,000 steps by 2pm! I actually had a pretty great moment this week. I went to Lane Bryant on Sunday to see if I could find a nice shirt for by brother-in-law’s birthday party (where I did LOTS of dancing and burned the hell out of my leg muscles!). I grabbed my new-normal shirt size (18/20) and it was baggy. So I went down a size (14/16) and it was still baggy. So I tried to find the next smallest size. When I couldn’t, I asked for help and they told me they don’t carry anything lower than an 14 in the store. I knew that, but I’d forgotten because it hasn’t been a concern for me like, ever. I remember not being able to buy things from the store because I had to order the larger sizes from the catalog. Now I’m too small – in SOME shirts – for them! It was a cool moment.

My Lane Bryant days are not over because the bottom half of my body doesn’t seem to want to lose weight with the top half (WTF?!) not matter how many butt and leg workouts I do. It’s a much slower process on the bottom half, but still moving in the right direction so I can’t complain (too much).

I’m planning to get in some extra workouts this summer and hopefully be a little further along by time school starts in the fall.

WOO HOO!!! I’m celebrating with you! First – congrats on the new-new size shirts. What an amazing feeling! Second – congrats on making it through the year. I remember when you started that journey. So glad you enjoyed your kiddos. So sorry about the admin crap. I hope you find a better fit before the end of the month! *HUGS*

Berls, if you end up having to stay at that school, it might be worth your while to go to the union over the administration. I know you don’t want the drama but if you have to stay there, something needs to be done. That administration (and the kids in your class) are/were LUCKY to have you. The administration jerked you around from the beginning – and then they bully you?!? They have no idea how lucky they are you didn’t walk at any point SEVERAL times during this year when they sucked at their job of supporting you. Ugh!!!
    But it’s summer now and you have some great plans. I do hope you get some rest squeezed in there somewhere. 😉 Any plans for ‘camping’ again this summer? Anyway, I’ll be there on Thursday. (Happy Birthday in advance!) It may be Monday before I can do lunch. But I’ll text you when plans are set, okay? {{{HUGS}}}

Sorry that I haven’t stopped by more often lately! I can’t believe your first year of teaching is already over, I can still remember when you just started the year. I can imagine that for a teacher the end of the year is just as crazy as the start, but at least you have vacation to look forward to. I am sorry to hear about the administration and bullying and I hope you can find a new school!

And that’s so sweet to hear you’ve come to care about all these kids. I never thought of how that must be from the teacher their point of view to say goodbye.

I already signed-up for Coyer! I am looking forward to the start of Coyer and I hope I can be an active participant. I hope you’ll have a great week and enjoy your summer vacation!

Good luck on your job search. I was just job hunting and I know how daunting that can be. I hope you can find something in a new school. I’m glad you’re enjoying teaching, even if you have drama with admin. I think that exists in all jobs. I hope next year will be better. Enjoy your summer and time off.

Thank you Melanie – I need it! With it being summer and only 1 month to find a job or be stuck where I am, I’m pretty anxious. How’d your job hunt go? I’ve been pretty unconnected to the blogging world for a while, so sorry I’m unaware :/ I do love teaching though – it’s what I’m supposed to be doing, that I’m sure of. So I just have to find the right place for me and all will be good 🙂 And it is summer break, so I can enjoy that!

*hugs* Berls! I hope you’ll find another job at another school for next year. AND that you’ll be able to teach science to kids that are a bit bigger than the ones you ended up with this year. I also think you should contact the union, it’s there for a reason, right? And your admin pulled crap on you from start to finish – you didn’t even do the work you were first hired to do, right?
I’m glad you’ll have time to do other things this summer 🙂 And I sure hope you’ve got some time scheduled for relaxation as well.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading, my dear! I miss you!!

Thanks Lexxie! I don’t really care what subject or grade level I get assigned to at this point – after this year I’ve learned that it’s a lot less about WHAT you teach and a lot more about WHERE. My goal is simply to get into a good school. So I’m applying for everything I’m qualified for (PreK-8th). I have a job fair on Wednesday at a really good district actually so fingers crossed!

Yeah I probably should contact the union – it’s just that it will be work, seeing as I don’t even know how to go about filling a complaint. But you’re right, they pulled crap all year, and it just really escalated at the end.

I do have some relaxation scheduled in – WEEKLY massages! Yeah I’m totally spoiling myself 🙂 I already get them bi-weekly, but I’m upping it this summer in hopes of getting really relaxed.

Hope you’re having a great end of the school year. Miss you! *Hugs*
