The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.
News at Home – School’s Out for Summer!
Sorry I’ve been MIA for the past month or so… things have been intense. I’d have to say the end of the school year is about as insane as the beginning. Add to that a psycho administration and lots of bullying from said administration and you’ve got my end of the year. I don’t want to get into details, because that would be one long rant, but needless to say, my summer will be spent looking for a new school. Well, June at least. My contract requires me to resign by July, so it’s find a job by July or spend another year at a pretty HORRIBLE school. Several teachers have encouraged me to go to the union about the shit the pulled with me the past few weeks; I just don’t want the drama. I just want to get out.
Minus the administration, though, the last month has been fairly incredible. My kids grew so much this year and it really kinda sucks saying goodbye to them. You spend 180 days being a pseudo-mom just to have to give them back at the end. I grew to love each and every one of them and saying goodbye was hard. I got emotional the last few days and at the end of the year party, when some of the parents that came got emotional, I struggled to keep it together. But they’re ready to move on. They can read, write, add, subtract, count to 100, tie their shoes, share, and so on and so on. I’ll never forget them, that’s for sure.
I spent Friday – my last work day, kids last day was Thursday – packing up my room. Thank goodness I started a bit the week before because that was a job and a half. I have acquired – bought – so much stuff this year! I filled my car – trunk, backseat, and front seat, floors and everything trying to pack it all up. Two other teachers and I rented a storage for all of our shit. I’m already dreading unpacking it all in 2 months! There has to be a better way…
Anyway… I have a busy summer ahead of me. Job search, working for Upward Bound like I always do (testing coordinator), continuing education hours, and preparing for the next school year. I also intend to do lots of writing and blogging this summer. I hope I’ve left some time in there for rest!
COYER sign-ups are open! I hope you’ll join us! I hope to be a much more active co-host this time, since school won’t be in session until the last couple weeks.
Moving out of a classroom is a killer workout! I had 12,000 steps by 2pm! I actually had a pretty great moment this week. I went to Lane Bryant on Sunday to see if I could find a nice shirt for by brother-in-law’s birthday party (where I did LOTS of dancing and burned the hell out of my leg muscles!). I grabbed my new-normal shirt size (18/20) and it was baggy. So I went down a size (14/16) and it was still baggy. So I tried to find the next smallest size. When I couldn’t, I asked for help and they told me they don’t carry anything lower than an 14 in the store. I knew that, but I’d forgotten because it hasn’t been a concern for me like, ever. I remember not being able to buy things from the store because I had to order the larger sizes from the catalog. Now I’m too small – in SOME shirts – for them! It was a cool moment.
My Lane Bryant days are not over because the bottom half of my body doesn’t seem to want to lose weight with the top half (WTF?!) not matter how many butt and leg workouts I do. It’s a much slower process on the bottom half, but still moving in the right direction so I can’t complain (too much).
I’m planning to get in some extra workouts this summer and hopefully be a little further along by time school starts in the fall.
