Sunday Post | Best Birthday Present Ever!

June 12, 2016 Sunday Post 14

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home – Best Birthday Present Ever!

As I mentioned last week, I kicked off my job search this week. It lasted a grand total of 2 days! Yep, that’s right! I landed a job already! In fact, I was hired on my birthday – Thursday! Talk about about an awesome birthday present 🙂

I spent most of Monday at Philip’s apartment pool with Franky, Jesus (Franky’s little brother), and Isaac (Franky’s friend). I decided I had to kick summer off right, with no work and some fun. My brother and I talked about my writing a lot too – which fueled a lot of early morning and late night writing.

On Tuesday, I got serious though. Spent most the day updating my resume and researching schools that would be at the job fair I was attending on Wednesday. I put a lot of time into research, because I REFUSE to end up at a horrible school again next year. There’s only so much you can do to know whether schools are good or not, but if I had done a fraction of the research I did this year I would have known I was going to a shit school. So I was not going to do that again. I also had a great long lunch with some teacher friends from work – where we bitched about our administration, shared war stories, and planned for the job fair we were all attending the next day.

Wednesday morning I finished prepping for the job fair – printed resumes, printed my cheat sheet for the schools I wanted to apply to, and practiced my elevator speech. The job fair was from 1:30 – 5:30 and I stayed the WHOLE time. It was exhausting. Waiting in long lines meant I only got to talk to 7 principals. But of those 7, 2 told me they would be in touch about a position and 1 scheduled an interview for the next morning. At 7:30 am.

So 7:30 am interview on Thursday – my birthday. No sleeping in! I think it was a test to see if I would be on time and really awake at 7:30am. I was both, of course. School normally starts at 7:30 and I haven’t been off long enough to get out of that habit. Thankfully. So in the course of interviewing, I found out I was actually competing with someone else from my old Kinder team for the job. Since I loved her, learned a lot from her, and – frankly – think she’s a better teacher than me, when it came up, I talked her up. I told them that I wanted the job, but I couldn’t say a bad thing about her. When I walked out, she was there waiting for her interview. She gave me a big hug and talked me up to them. I think that won us both big points, that we clearly respected each other and would be happy for each other. I feel a tad bit guilty that she didn’t get the job, honestly. But they called me at 2:30 and offered me the job. I’m really excited – I did my research this time and I can definitely say this is a good school. I’m also nervous because I hope I can live up to whatever picture they got from me at the interview. That they picked me over someone I respect so much has me a bit nervous… but I’ve got all summer before I seriously have to stress, right?

I’ve spent the rest of the week working on test writing for Upward Bound. I have a very little time to get that done – I have to head up to the school next week (Thursday or Friday) to do the printing and then the following week is the competition.

I can already tell this summer is going to go way too fast…

Blog News

As you may have noticed I haven’t posted at all this week. I’m not likely to post next week either. However, I am drafting posts. Slowly. My plan is to resume a true blog presence when COYER starts… which is just 6 days away! Have you signed up yet?

Don’t forget, you won’t be coming here, or to Michelle’s or Stormi’s blog on the 18th! We’ve got a new website for you (along with social media accounts to follow). Michelle and I (I did very little beyond the initial setup!) have been working to get everything setup and I think it looks great (Thanks Michelle!). Head on over and check out COYER’s new home!

#FitReaders Update

I got in some long walks this past week – I did like 3, 3 mile walks. Other than that, I’ve stayed busy and walked Buffy enough that I’m still getting in good steps daily. I also just ordered Plexus and I’ll be starting that tomorrow. Fingers crossed it helps re-ignite my weight loss! I’ve still been losing but it’s slowed way down lately and I want to speed it back up!

I did however, find this picture of me from 2010 and I was kind of amazed by the progress I’ve made. Check it out:

I realize it’s just the face, but I was surprised how much I’ve lost just in my face. I need little reminders like that to keep me going!

Last Week on the Blog

Nada, sorry!

This Week on the Blog Look For:

I’m hoping to have a post on Saturday with my goals for COYER – but I have to make sure I get the real COYER post written and up first. That takes priority!

I am so happy your job search only lasted so short and you found a new job. Congrats! I already saw your update on facebook, but wanted to say congrats here as well!I hope your new school is a lot better than the previous one. And that’s nice you managed to kick off your summer right with a lot of fun and no work!
And I am so happy to hear you’re starting to draft posts again. I know I haven’t stopped by as often as I would’ve liked lately and I am sorry about that. I’ll try to stop by more often as I missed talking to you 🙂
And I can’t wait for Coyer to start. It’s always so fun and I think it’s great you made a website for coyer so everything is easy to find.
And that’s amazing to see how much weight you have lost since that older picture. It’s good to remind yourself of that and how good you’re doing! I hope you’ll have a great week!

Thank you Lola! It already feels so much better – my boss has been texting me communicating about the paperwork and is letting me come see my classroom this week. I have a great feeling!

Don’t feel bad about not coming by – I haven had anything up for you to really comment on. But that should be changing starting today 🙂 I’ve missed talking with everyone!

It is so incredibly exciting Melanie! You’re so right, I love teaching but so much of the other stuff has been bad. Fingers crossed the new school lives up to hoe great I’m feeling about it! I’m not great at relaxing, it seems. My schedule is bursting. But in a good way 🙂 Hope you’ve had a great week!

I am so, so, so happy you’ve found a new job, Berls! And I’m sure you nailed the interview, just by being your awesome, friendly and smiling self. I hope this new school is a place where you can grow and stay for a while!
Congrats on the weight loss, you are doing so well. I’m not sure if I told you in Chicago, but I could see a big difference in you from Dallas a year ago 🙂
I hope you’ll have a wonderful week ahead and find some time to read, too 😀 *hugs* I miss you SO much!

Are you second guessing yourself? Well stop it, that is what I am suppose to do and you are suppose to make me not do that. We can’t switch rolls NOW!!!! 🙂

I still have so much to do with the COYER page as far as getting the old reviews up on the pages and just tweak a few things but it ready enough for the 18th. I am excited that we have a website!!!

I hope you had a great birthday! If I get a chance today I will call you, it has been super crazy here and I can’t seem to catch a break!

Have a fantastic week, my friend! We will talk soon! Happy Reading! ox

    • Berls

Yes, totally second guessing. It’s hard when someone you respect so much doesn’t get a job and you do. It’s like, wait, you sure? Lol! Anyone COYER website looks great so far 🙂 Happy COYER!
