Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged /about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home: Stressed Out!!!

Oh my god! I got so stressed out this week that I felt like I was on the verge of a panic attack by the end of the day Tuesday. And that’s really bad, considering that I even had Monday off. I think this time of year is just really rough at school – we may be close to the end, but the end is full of stressful events.

Take this upcoming week – Monday is a regular day, but Tuesday – Friday are testing days. My kids have to take this test called TerraNova (which we JUST found out the details for on Tuesday!) on Tuesday and Wednesday. And they have to take it with a different teacher, while I have to go administer the test to a second grade class. A small change, like who administers the test, is a BIG deal at this age. Then I found out (also on Tuesday) that on Thursday and Friday my kids are going to have to take their Common Assessments. At least I get to administer this test to them and in small groups, but after two days of testing, they are going to be so tired. So that’s four solid days of testing.

I found all that out on Tuesday. On Wednesday, my Alternative Certification Supervisor came and did a 45 minute observation. And of course she came at the start of centers – the most hectic part of the day – and we were starting new centers! She gave me a good rating, but it was stressful.

Then Thursday, we were told that we had to take down or cover all materials on our walls that might help the kids on the tests. That’s anchor charts, word walls, number lines, alphabet line, and student work. Every inch of my room is covered in that stuff – because it’s REQUIRED. We had to have it covered /down by 10am on Friday, so I stayed until 7pm Thursday taking down things that I could leave down for the rest of the year and covering what I need to keep up. When I got home Friday, my mom and Kiko were fighting about something… I can’t even remember what it was to be honest. But it blew up so bad that I spent my lunch break on Friday on the phone because she went to the office asking about renting an apartment because she thought we were kicking her out! Thankfully I was able to resolve all that when I got home Friday, thanks to talking to my brother and some calm talking with my mom.

Friday continued going downhill when I fell during recess – the kids were running, almost ran into me, I tried to stop, twisted, and fell. I had to spend a ton of time filling out an accident report during my planning period, which was also when I tried to eat, since I had missed lunch. Then my kids were being so bad (probably picking up on my stress, honestly) that we had to cancel library, which is more work for me, though I do think they learned their lesson (there were lots of tears).

Oh and as I was leaving work Friday, I got an email that my 10 day window for my 45 minute observation will open up the 25th, our first day after the craziness of testing. Grrr! I’m so stressed! I cannot wait for BEA – I NEED the break!!

Blog News

Somehow I still managed to have a good week where blogging is concerned. I was able to reply to comments from the past week, visit a few blogs and I’m planning to write up the posts for this week today.

I took off Monday. My partner is freaking out on me more so than usual – and she’s leaving, so what does she care?! She freaked out about not having the materials one day this week and took mine – and she had hers all along! The end of the year is very stressful for teachers. Testing is such a pain, and not being with the teacher they expect to be with can throw some of them off so bad. It really does matter. I hope these next two weeks are not as stressful!

You have every reason to be stressed out. I can’t believe they told you about the testing so late. And that’s a lot of testing time for kinders. I hope it all goes well and this week goes better for you. BEA will be here soon and it looks like a lot of fun. That’s something good to look forward to. Have a good week!!

It sounds like your week was super stressful! Gives me the hives of just thinking about school. I never realized testing was just as stressful for the teachers as it was the students! Work life is especially not easy when home life is also a stress factor. It may only be a day or two but it really impacts you.

Here’s to hoping that this week is infinitely better for you!

I never realized how stressful the end of the school year must be for teachers. I am sorry to hear this was such a stressful week this week. *hug* I hope next week is better.

Four solid days of testing, that sounds difficult, those poor kids. I hope it all goes well.

And that is nice you managed to do some blogging, even with all of that going on. I hope next week is a better one!

I’m really sorry your week was so stressful. I hope that next week will be better, but it doesn’t sound like it will be. 🙁 I stress eat too. I also boredom eat. Well, eating is my go-to for most everything. I hope you have fun at BEA. I so wish I was going so I could see you again. Maybe we can meet up a a conference next year. Have fun. 🙂

I’m glad you had a good blogging week DESPITE the stress… and it sounds like it will continue (the stress!) with all of the testing coming up.

I’m sure you’ll be fine as will the kids. And yes, you have BEA to look forward to!

It all sounds a little crazy, ducks – maybe you should sit down and have a glass of wine? Put on a little jazz, dim the lights, take a bubblebath… Breathe. Also, soooo proud of you! How are you recovering from that fall, though??

Oh my, Berls! I almost got stressed just reading your post, Berls *BIG HUGS*!! I am going to keep your cup full at BEA, so that there will be lots of laughs and relaxation! I just finished a tough week, too, but it was nothing like yours!
I hope next week will be a bit better, even with all the testing. And in just over three weeks we’ll celebrate books, life and friendships in Chicago 🙂
