My TBR List | February 2016 Voting

February 6, 2016 My TBR List 24

My TBR List is a meme hosted by Michelle @ Because Reading where we get some help picking out what to read next. We sit for hours looking through our TBR lists wondering when we will ever get to that one book we were dying to read when we added it 3 months ago or maybe even a year. So each month we pick 3 books from our TBRs and let everyone else vote on which one to read. We announce the book the second week and by the end of the month, we review it!

February 2016 Voting

Well last month I managed to read the book and get the review up, so I’m really hoping I can do the same thing this month! Once again I’m pulling from my #2016HW list in hopes of killing two birds with one stone 🙂

My Three Choices

I’m sticking with books that count towards COYER as well – three birds would be better than two, right?! Two of these will look familiar, as they were in last month’s voting too!

  1. FlintlockFlintlock by Ashley Nixon

Barren Reed hopes to protect the Orient from his tyrant uncle, but his plans to make the King’s life a living hell aren’t supported by the Elders of the pirate community. As it stands, Barren has earned the Elders’ disdain for his carelessness, and they threaten him into exile if he makes one more mistake.

Barren’s not the only one feeling the Elders’ wrath—they don’t trust Larkin either. Worse, Barren can’t comprehend Larkin’s wish to have a relationship with her father, and the secrets she’s forced to keep create a tension that may pull them apart forever.

When the Pirates of Silver Crest begin to die, bullets laced with dark magic are to blame. With more and more of these weapons infiltrating the Underground, discovering who’s behind the dissemination is no easy feat. As fear and tension mount among the people of the Orient, Barren and his crew find themselves in a race against time to stop the spread of dark magic before the world of Mariana spirals into collapse.

This is book 2 in a series I’ve enjoyed – I actually started it once but life got crazy and I dropped it – but I remember it being decent when I dropped it, so I feel confident I will like it.

  2. Deeper robin yorkDeeper by Robin York

In Robin York’s sizzling debut, a college student is attacked online and must restore her name—and stay clear of a guy who’s wrong for her, but feels so right.

When Caroline Piasecki’s ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn’t look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear, hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defense and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he’s shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger—even after promising her dad she’ll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works.

They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they’re “just friends,” their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The more complicated her relationship with West gets, the harder Caroline has to struggle to discover what she wants for herself—and the easier it becomes to find the courage she needs to fight back against the people who would judge her.

When all seems lost, sometimes the only place to go is deeper.

This book won an award at RT last year and when the author spoke I got teary and tingly – I was so sure I was going to read it immediately. Yeah, I know… but point is, I was so excited that I got a free copy and now I’m making sure I read it this year.

  3. Death before daylightDeath Before Daylight by Shannon A. Thompson

    Two eternities. One ending.

“Harmony would only come with destruction.”

The moment Eric and Jessica are reunited, they are torn apart. After the appearance of a new breed of shades and lights, the powers shift for the worse, and all three descendants find themselves face-to-face in the Light realm. When Darthon is in control, the last thing everyone expects is to finally hear the truth.

While Jessica learns the reason of her creation, Darthon’s identity is exposed to Eric—and only Eric—and Eric can no longer defend himself. With the eternities of the Light and the Dark resting on Jessica’s shoulders, she must choose who she will be—a light or a shade.

In the end, someone must die, and the end is near.

I loved this series and planned on reading this final book when it came out – almost a year ago. I don’t know what happened but I somehow forgot about it! So I’m really eager to see how the trilogy ends.

  1. Literary Feline

I thought it would be an easy pick after reading the description of the first book, but then I read the second and the third and it’s not so easy to choose now. How to pick . . . I will go with the cover I like best! Haha I hope you enjoy whichever wins!

It sounds so good and the author’s speech really got to me – I think it could be a really emotionally charged read 🙂

  2. Ani

I wasn’t sure which one to vote for. They all sound interesting. So I’m basing my vote on how much I like the over. 😛 Hope you enjoy whatever book wins!

Thanks Lola! I’m pretty confident I’ll enjoy all of these books. Deeper is one I’ve wanted to read ever since I heard about it.

Lol yeah I know! I’m going to be using my TBR List for all my 2016he books this year, except maybe this summer. Otherwise I’ll never read both.

Lol I know that’s the one Michelle wants to win. I honestly have no preference, I want to read them all.
