Sunday Post | Happy 2016!

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home – Happy 2016!

Wow! Can y’all beieve it’s already 2016? I sure can’t! But Happy 2016 just the same 🙂

I had a busy, yet lazy week, if that makes any sense. I continued holding my brother hostage *evil grin* and he helped me organize. I worked on my computer area, clothes, and books. I ended up getting rid of a lot of clothes that don’t fit me anymore (yay!) and I organized everything by outfits (I know it sound really OCD, but it makes things so easy when it’s time to get ready for work). My book closet is looking better than it has in months – since it’s been doubling as my work closet and I’ve been perpetually out of room. I bought two organizers with three drawers each to add to the space and it made a world of difference. I also organized my books differently – better IMO. Before they were organized by series and that was really it. Now I have them organized by genre and whether or not I’ve read them. Books of the shelf’s genre that I have read are at the back, the ones I haven’t read are at the front for easy access. I’m very happy with it and hope this system will last.

I also spent a lot of time having fun 🙂 We went to a couple movies. Me and my brother saw Spotlight which ended up being really really good. I want to own it in fact. Then my bother, mom and I also saw Spectre – the latest James Bond movie. I hadn’t seen a James Bond movie since Pierce Brosnan but used to really love them. Well… I don’t love them anymore. It was meh at best. James Bond is not really that skilled is he? Just lucky? At least the old ones had cool gadgets, this one just gets lucky a lot. It felt like they were ending things for 007 though, so maybe I’ll be glad I saw this one. I also got together with some friends I haven’t seen much of this semester, which was great.

I finally let my brother go home on December 31st; My mom, brother and I met up with his boyfriend for lunch (his boyfriend has been out of town and was just getting back) at a local diner we really like – Mama’s Daughter’s Diner. It was nice because I haven’t spent much time with Zach since they started dating almost a year ago. We made tentative plans to start doing this once a month so I can see more of my brother and we can get to know Zach a bit better. Then for NYE we went over to Tequilla’s (my stepson Franky’s mom) for a bonfire, some games (mainly Heads Up and Cards) and just time with the family. We left before midnight and got home at about 11:45 – just enough time to turn on the TV, grab a drink and ring in the new year at home. And then go to bed because we’re old! LOl! I seem to rememeber celebrating NYE all night with lots of drinks, but that doesn’t even appeal to me anymore.

We spent Friday morning in bed – reading and relaxing mainly – and then went over to Tequilla’s again. We had fajitas on the grill and another bonfire. We played poker and met Mema’s (Franky’s grandmother) new boyfriend. He’s really nice and I think they may have something 🙂 Anyway, you’ll notice I didn’t spend any time on school work… ooops! well I enjoyed the rest and relaxation and I needed it. I go back tomorrow but the kids don’t come back until Wednesday, so I have some time 🙂

Blog News

I’m trying really hard to get things organized so that the blog can go back to “normal” this year. I think I got enough done this past week! Fingers crossed!

#FitReaders Update

I went to the doctor on the 29th and he gave me clearance to get back to the gym starting tomorrow. So we’ll see how that goes. I’m feeling weak pretty easily lately, so I’m nervous that the last couple weeks of taking it easy have done more damage than I expected. My goal is to hit the gym 3x a week, but I hate this time of year at the gym – it’s always so crowded. I know this isn’t nice, but I wish all the people who will stop going to the gym by February or March would just not come at all. Because those of us who go all year really could use the space! But I guess I don’t really mean that, because I always see someone in January who is clearly struggling to get healthy and I’m always happy when I see them keep coming. I just don’t like how crowded it gets!

Thanks – it was nice to get organized! I’m feeling pretty good, thanks for asking. I’m tired today (first day with the kids back) but no pain or anything. So yay! Hope you’re having a great week 🙂

I also organize my closet by outfits! I match my tops with the pants they color coordinate the best with. So really it’s color-coordinated by outfit. It makes things so much easier – you don’t have to waste time finding and pairing items. I just yank them down and throw ’em on! I can be out of bed, dressed and ready in 10 minutes these days. I’ve really prioritized sleep. I never was into the Bond films. The ex was, and I didn’t see what the big deal was. I’m glad you are getting to know the boyfriend! My 22 year old brother secretly got married in July to a woman 10 years older than him (to beat his wife’s sister, whose wedding was two weeks away). I know virtually nothing about my sister-in-law, and it doesn’t seem she is at all interested in getting to know anyone. I’ve tried reaching out, and I’m always politely turned away or outright ignored by my brother. I maintain that they married each other for show…and she’s finding out my brother is not that good of a catch. I hope you get the most out of your family time!

Isn’t it great having it organized by outfits?! So easy! I have scarves paired too, so I don’t have to think about anything. Bummer about your brother’s marriage, doesn’t sound like that was a good way to start things 🙁 my brother’s BF is very shy so we haven’t gotten to know him well, but he’s not resistant, thank goodness! Hope you’ve had a great week!

Happy, happy New Year, Berls! I’m so happy you’ve taken some time for YOU over your break. Getting organized and just relaxing and having family time sounds like just what you needed! And I’m glad the organizing has you feeling confident about how things will run…smoothly…for 2016. I had to laugh at you coming home ‘early’ on NYE because you’re old. You certainly are not! And we were in bed by 11. 😉 We used to stay up playing games but we’ve gotten old (er) and just don’t feel the need. We had a family movie day – we took the kids to see Star Wars (da bomb!), took them shopping (to spend Christmas loot) and then out to eat. Then we relaxed and read until bedtime. Oh, Sky actually went ice skating on Evergreen Lake with friends…they have a special fireworks display on NYE. But she was home by 9:30 because ice skating when it’s 4 degrees apparently isn’t that fun. *haha*
I wish you all the best for 2016 and just think…we’ll be seeing each other in just 5 short months! Woohoo! <3 <3

Wow! 5 months, can you believe it!? We’re starting to have a May tradition building up. Sounds like you had a great NYE! I used to think I wasn’t getting that old, but when you spend all day with 5-6 year olds you realize how young you aren’t lol! Ha, I can’t believe Sky even tried ice skating in 4 degrees. You couldn’t drag me out of the house! I happy weekend! Hope you’re enjoying your family today 🙂 Hugs!!

I completely feel you on the gym. I also hate how crowded it gets this time of year. Luckily (?), I still haven’t recovered from my last injury, so maybe it’ll be less crowded by the time I am. You’re right, that does sound kinda bad. LOL! Good luck at getting back to working out, and take it easy. You don’t want to hurt yourself again. Have a great week!

Happy New Year!! You were really productive during your time off. It’s funny how you held your brother captive lol but he did help you a lot. It’s great that you will be focused on going to the gym. I keep saying I need to exercise more but so far I haven’t. I hope you have a great week!

I too am trying to keep my blogging self organized this year. I’m hoping to really be on top of my blogging this year.

Happy 2016! I’m new to the Sunday Post linkup, but it seems like another fun way to meet new bloggers 🙂 Sounds like you were far more productive than I was this past week. Hurrah for organization! The only organized thing in my life right now is my blog lol, even though I’ve meaning to do some real organization, on the computer and off. Anyway, it sounds like you had a fun New Year’s Eve, and here’s a great 2016 🙂

I need to clean out our walk-in closet. It’s a catchall for shit and I need to get ruthless about stuff. My life will be a whole lot simpler if we can just finish the Exterior Library, but money makes the world go ’round and we have very little. Maybe we’ll get a decent tax refund and it won’t be needed for car repairs. One can hope, right? lol

Don’t push yourself too hard when you go back to the gym. Start off easy and work your way back up. No matter how good you feel or how gungho, surgery is still surgery. Slow and steady is a much better approach until you’re definitely 100%. 🙂

Have a fabulous week, Berls! xo

You have me wanting to attack my closets! I know I have tons of clothes that either don’t fit or I don’t love and they need to go. We watched the first 3 Daniel Craig James Bond movies and I enjoyed them but the focus has definitely changed so I can see how if you were a big fan of the Brosnan days they’d be pretty meh now. Have a great week!

I really should follow your lead and organize my clothes, I have quite some that are old or don’t fit and that I should throw away, but I know it will take a lot of time and I really don’t feel like cleaning out my clothes. My bookshelves are organized by series and that’s it, but I can still find everything I need, although I could really use a new bookcase.

It’s ncie you got to spend so much time with your brother and go to the movies, ti sounds like you had a great time, although that’s a shame one of the movies you saw was a bti meh. I hope you’ll have a great week!

I completely understand about the gym thing. I’m not a gym person myself, but that would drive me nuts too. It is probably the same people every January that come for a month or two and then quit. What’s the point.

Sounds like you had a great holiday and break. Good for you. I haven’t done much but relax. I had no family in town. It was just DH and me. That has been kinda nice. I’ve been able to get ahead on some reading so I don’t feel like I’m pushing limits on my reviews and just barely getting them done. I now have some padding.

    Here’s to a great 2016

Happy New Year! Sounds like you had a nice relaxing time off which is good. I haven’t liked James bond since Pierce Bronsan, I just can’t get into Daniel Craig, so I am ready for them to change guys so maybe I can like it again. The old ones are just so much cooler.

Hope things go really good when you go back to work! 🙂

Happy New Year!! It’s my first time joining the Sunday Post and I love it so far.

It sounds like you had a great week spending time with your brother. I’ve never been the gym going type, but I can definitely understand that it bothers you to see all those people who stop going after a view weeks. If it’s so crowded I definitely wouldn’t enjoy it much.

I hope you have a great week and I look forward to checking out your blog more often! 😉

Happy New Year Berls 🙂 It sounds like your time off was perfect, even if you were also healing from your surgery. I’m glad you got to spend so much time with your brother! And that you’ve made plans to get to know his boyfriend better in the new year.
Remember baby-steps when you get to the gym tomorrow! Even if your stitches are healed and everything, just let your body slowly get used to working out again – I know you had to take a break, so ease yourself back into it. I’m sure that will help you in the long run.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading. *hugs*
