I’d rather face a dozen lethal assassins any night than deal with something as tricky, convoluted, and fragile as my feelings.
But here I am. Gin Blanco, the semi-retired assassin known as the Spider. Hovering outside sexy businessman Owen Grayson’s front door like a nervous teenage girl. One thing I like about Owen: he doesn’t shy away from my past—or my present. And right now I have a bull’s-eye on my forehead. Cold-blooded Fire elemental Mab Monroe has hired one of the smartest assassins in the business to trap me. Elektra LaFleur is skilled and efficient, with deadly electrical elemental magic as potent as my own Ice and Stone powers. Which means there’s a fifty-fifty chance one of us won’t survive this battle. I intend to kill LaFleur—or die trying—because Mab wants the assassin to take out my baby sister, Detective Bria Coolidge, too. The only problem is, Bria has no idea I’m her long-lost sibling . . . or that I’m the murderer she’s been chasing through Ashland for weeks. And what Bria doesn’t know just might get us both dead. . . .

Tangled Threads is EASILY the best Elemental Assassin book up to this point. I feel like this was one of the big points that all the other books were leading to and I was very happy with how Jennifer Estep handled it.

Note: There are some series spoilers in this review.

The thread that’s most interested me since book 1 was Gin’s family – what exactly happened? Why did Mab Monroe target them? And then, with the discovery that Brea was still alive – would the two sisters ever reunite? Tangled Threads was a book of answers! I loved all the dream flashbacks to that night that changed Genevieve Snow’s life and led her to her life as Gin Blanco, the Spider. And the developments with Brea, even though there’s still plenty to come, were fantastic. And just when I thought things were as developed as the could be for one book, Tangled Threads threw me one last curve ball I was not expecting! It never stopped delivering!

And I haven’t said a thing about the magic! Gin has always seemed so reluctant about using her magic, so it’s been a backdrop in this series and I, being the fantasy and magic lover that I am, have always wanted more. Well, Tangled Threads totally delivered! With the assassin Electra La Fleur in town, magic is front and center and it made the action – not to mention Gin’s own personal developments – squee worthy.

Oh gosh and then there’s Owen and this steamy, sweet romance building between him and Gin. And the whole family element growing and surrounding Gin. It was just… Perfect. I adored Tangled Threads and guess what? I’m immediately picking up the next book. Can’t stop yet!

    I went ahead and read your review because I won’t remember this by the time I finally get around to reading it. 😉 I’m glad you found this such a worthy installment in a beloved series, Berls. I really can’t wait to get started on it!

    I’m glad you’re now comfortable in your ability to handle those little yahoos you call students. 😉 The next 3 weeks will probably stretch your patience. But you can do it! How did you appt go with the doc? Have a great day!! {{hugs}}

      I’m so sorry, you haven’t been able to get started because SOMEONE (looks around) hasn’t gotten it to you. My to do list is so epic right now, but I promise, it’s on my list. I just have to download, convert and upload. Easy but takes time.
      They have been pushing me this week – but I’m pushing right back and winning lol. I have Saturday school this week and next, so the weeks are going to be super long. I’m semilooking forward to it though, because I got to pick the kids and I chose well behaved kids that need some one on one time.
      As for the doctor – appointment got rescheduled for tomorrow. Grr. Fingers crossed there are no more bumps in the road! Hugs!! Hope you’re having a great week – sorry I haven’t been able to visit, hoping to make it by on Sunday and Uber visit lol!!

      So far, that seems to be the case. I need to get back to the series though, I haven’t read much beyond this one 🙁

      It was a definite step up for me. But I haven’t read much more, simply because of time. I need a lot more time!!
