Welcome to My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

Well surgery didn’t happen on Friday like planned! The reason? Insurance sucks! To be fair, it was the surgeon that screwed up, but I just hate our health care system. Insurance companies have way too much power. Just saying.

Long story short, my surgeon’s office failed to file ANY paperwork. Not only did they not file the claim for my office visit to them, but they also didn’t do any of the preauthorization work they were supposed to do. They were supposed to get preauthorization 15 days before the surgery, something I didn’t find out about until Thursday at roughly 3pm. At 12pm I found out they were out of network all of a sudden. Grrrr! So I have to find a new surgeon – which I’ve done – go through the whole process all over again – beginning with an appointment on the 30th. Hopefully I can have surgery at the start of winter break. Grrrr.

On the plus side, I only have two days after for work this week and then it’s Thanksgiving break! Looking forward to the holiday with the family and it looks like my mom is going to come again :)! And the job isn’t so bad anymore. In fact, I’m starting to enjoy it. The kids are getting much better and they make me laugh. Everyday someone brings me a picture they made for me and I have a whole wall for their artwork. Part of me is even wondering if I might not look for a new position next year after all! *gasp* I know! After all the bitching I did. But it makes a huge difference knowing what to do and they really set me up bad at the beginning, switching me last minute to a grade I knew nothing about. Now that I get my kiddos and what they need (which is for me to be hardcore strict), it’s actually pretty good most the time. And it’s really cool to see them learning things like how to add and read. Next week they’re going to learn how to count to 50 and I’m looking forward to it, because I know they’re going to be excited to learn.

I think I’m finally at the part of teaching that was why I wanted to be a teacher. And it’s even better that I’m able to do it while working semi-reasonable hours (7:15-5:15) most days. Yes, I still bring home some work. But very little. So yes, things are much MUCH better.

#FitReaders Update

I did manage to slow down the weight loss a bit – I’ve only lost two pounds this week. I don’t want to slow it up too much, but the 20 pounds in 2 weeks was a bit much. Nothing worrisome showed up on blood work, so I just haven’t been eating enough. Which is not surprising…it’s hard to eat when you get sick eating most things. Which is why I need my damn gallbladder out. Oh well. It’ll happen soon. But I’m eating a bit more. And I made it to the gym twice this week. Hoping for three times next week, especially since I’m out of work three days.

Maybe now you’ll get a better surgeon, a better time to have the surgery, and no time off from work (or possible one day, only). I agree with Brandee, this might be a sign that BEA will happen for you!
The surgeons here have to file papers with insurance companies before a surgery as well, but they’re usually very good at doing that. Everybody has insurance here – it’s mandatory, and for foreigners who come to live here, they need proof that they have insurance to get their work permit in order 😀 So a doctor who doesn’t file the right papers would just not get any patients after a little while.

I’m so happy you’re starting to really enjoy work, Berls! I’m exhausted after teaching quite a bit these past weeks, and I’m wondering if I’ll ever make it to work full time :O I’ve had some noisy classes, and it has been very difficult to have them calm down. What to do? It doesn’t help to scream. It doesn’t always help to move them to another desk in the classroom to separate two students who chat too much. And it doesn’t even always help when I send a student out which means they get annotated, and three times three annotations mean they have to come to school and clean for two hours on a Saturday morning…

Enjoy Thanksgiving, Berls! I hope your mom can come, too, so that you can all spend some time together. *hugs*

If this happens with this surgeon frequently he will lose people too – problem is, doctor’s tend to refer people to surgeons and as long as doctors are referring to him he’ll have work. Even if his office sucks. Makes me question my doctor’s office too actually – since they referred me to him. Hoping it is for the best though and I’ll end up missing fewer days AND getting to go to BEA.
Getting kids to be quiet is definitely one of the most difficult things – I’ve had to become extremely strict to get my kids to not talk all the time. I still have trouble with then talking without raising their hand or visiting while they’re supposed to be working, but they get punished for it so it keeps getting better. Who knows if that will ever get under control! But they’re manageable now 🙂 Have a great week Lexxie!!

Berls, I can tell you how happy I am that you’ve gotten past the worst and you’re enjoying teaching and enjoying your class. And if they’re bringing you pictures, those kids look up to you and love you. I know you’d be good at this! You should be proud of yourself for sticking up for what you needed from the school, and I’m glad they finally listened.

I hope the surgery thing works out — how utterly frustrating that they blew it re the insurance! But maybe it’s better over the Christmas break; you probably get a little bit more time off to recover.

Hugs, my friend, and happy reading!

Thanks, I’m so happy too! It’s nice not hating going to work every day! Yeah, I think the kiddos like me all right, which is funny because I’m very strict. But I think they appreciate strictness honestly. Today we were talking about what we’re thankful for (for Thanksgiving) and one of them said, “you” and it took me a minute to realize she meant me. It was very sweet 🙂

I’m crossing my fingers that surgery works out and like you said, maybe it will be better. More recovery time wouldn’t be bad, that’s for sure! Have a great week 🙂 Hugs!

I’m so sorry things got so screwed up with your surgeon’s office and the insurance company, Berls. I know it sucks and I hope things get straightened out. Another thing on the plus side – you didn’t take vacation or sick days so hopefully there will be NO issues for you taking off in May! 😉 I’m so happy to hear you sound positive about work. I don’t blame you AT ALL for being so upset for how you were thrown in the deep end and expected you to swim. But I’m glad you’ve finally found that place where you’re making it work for you. As I’ve said many times, you were meant to teach and I’m thrilled you’re getting to put your passion to work, if only a little at a time.
    Hopefully your week has begun well. My hubs and kids are home – we get the whole week off. So they’re dominating my time. 😉 Enjoy your short week! {{hugs}}

Thanks Brandee! Yeah, my district is like the ONLY district around here making the kiddos go to school this week… Grr! But maybe that means we’ll have more days somewhere else? *shrugs *
I do hope you’re right and I’ll be able to get surgery in without missing days of work – that would make going to BEA much easier!! I’m waiting to see how things go with my appointment on the 30th before I get too hopeful. Hope you’re enjoying your week with the family! Happy Thanksgiving 🙂 Hugs!

Best of luck with your insurance battles and your surgery. I’m usually in excellent health, but I recently contracted a weird lung infection and so I’ve also been introduced to the joys of pre-authorization, out-of-network doctors, etc. IDK, it seems like everyone has an insurance horror story, yet no one wants to change the system that we currently have.

I’d LOVE to change our system. But I know what you mean. I’m not someone whose had to spend much time at the doctor either, so I’m not great at navigating this crap 🙁 Good luck with you lung infection, that sounds bad :/!

Insurance does suck. My brother had to have back surgery and the insurance wanted him to try 6 weeks of physical therapy. After his doctor threw enough of a fit, they took a two inch section of a ruptured disc that physical therapy wouldn’t have done a damn thing for.

Hope you don’t have to wait too long to have your surgery. Glad you’re starting to enjoy your job.

Thanks Melanie! Gah, that’s exactly the kind of Bs I’m talking about. Glad your brother’s doctor was able to fight for him! Insurance just sucks…. Wait I already said that huh? Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

I don’t have insurance but they do suck some times so it’s sort of darned if you do and darned if you don’t with insurance…lol. Hope you get it fixed and can get that nasty thing out!

I am glad that you are starting to enjoy teaching the kinder. It really does help to know what you are doing and now that you seem to have a rhythm going it seems to be helping. Still a bit surprise that you want to stay there though…lol. 🙂

    Happy reading!

Lol well I’m not SURE I want to stay, I’m just starting to consider it. You know… Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

I agree, insurance sucks and yet it sucks not to have it. Grrrr. Our health system is what really sucks.

Gah, that absolutely sucks about your insurance and surgery. Your doctor’s office sure screwed you. Better luck with the new doctor!

I’m so glad that teaching is calming down and you’re actually starting to enjoy teaching kindergarten. They are an awesome age group.

Enjoy your time off and happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, I agree that insurance companies (and drug companies) have way too much power. We shouldn’t have to jump through so many loops for something we need. We get penalized for people who scam the system, so set up a better system. Right? However, the Dr office totally blew it. That is ridiculous! You could have found out 2 weeks ago that you needed another surgeon which is probably why they didn’t do anything, hoping you’d pay out of pocket, maybe? Yeah, right. Either they’re incompetent or they’re hoping to screw you. Grrr!

I’m so happy that you’re enjoying teaching now. That was a pretty shitty way to get you started though. They could have soured you on teaching for good and the world would be less yet another teacher that’s desperately needed. I hope the rest of the year continues to improve for you and yay for Thanksgiving break! 🙂

I agree the doctors office are the ones that screwed up, but I still hate the power that insurance company had in the situation. I have an appointment with the new surgeon tomorrow, so hopefully things will go much better.
Thanks, I’m glad things are so much better with teaching too. I’m not thrilled to go back tomorrow, but I think that’s how everyone feels after an extended break right? Whether you like your job or not, days off are always better lol! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving 🙂
