Sunday Post | Halloween Fun

November 1, 2015 Sunday Post 44

Welcome to My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

I think Halloween is the first time I’ve had legitimate FUN teaching and been thankful to be in an elementary school – where we get to really embrace Halloween fun. Our school had a storybook character day on Friday – you could come to school in costume, but you needed to have a book that your character came from. The goal was to emphasize literacy. I dressed up as Fancy Nancy and my kids loved it.
Me as Fancy Nancy
I had a Belle, Dorthy, Sparkle Princess, Supergirl, Glenda the Good Witch, and a Power Ranger (yeah, I’m not sure he had a book, but whatever). The whole school did a parade through the halls at the end of the day Friday and it was genuinely a good time. For math, I told spooky Halloween stories for math word problems that they had to add and the kids had fun. And they even behaved most the day. Of course, the rest of the week sucked… but I’m not dwelling on that. Let’s just focus on the fact that Halloween was fun 🙂

On Saturday we went trick-or-treating with my step-son and his little brother. We did a bonfire afterwards with the whole family and roasted marshmallows (no one really ate candy lol!). If I didn’t have to go to work tomorrow I would be in a great mood. But one of my better weeks! And, since we have teacher in-service November 9th and I’m having surgery November 20th I only have 13 work days before I’m off for 6 days (not including the 4 weekend days)! Woot!

Blog News

I think I’m ALMOST full scale blogging again! I’m have posts scheduled for the upcoming week and I even think I’ll be able to visit again! Thank y’all for being so patient with me and my slow return!

#FitReaders Update

So when I registered my weight on My Fitness Pal this week it said I’ve lost 108 pounds! That’s like in the past 1.5 years I think, since that’s how long I’ve been using fitness pal. I don’t really keep track of my weight closely, I just make sure it’s consistently going in the right direction – so it kind of surprised me. It’s exciting – if only I didn’t have so much to lose I would be more excited.

You look amazing as Fancy Nancy!! I bet that was fun – I remember how much fun Halloween was in elementary school when my kids were there. And It was a great way to end a less than stellar week, yeah? Focus on the positive is right! 🙂 I’m glad you had a good time celebrating Halloween. My kids went in 3 different directions so I was exhausted getting 2 of them to and from where they were going. But all in all, it was fun. This is the last year I’ll have all 3 at home for Halloween so pumpkin carving was an event. 🙂 Congrats on your weight loss, my dear. You should take pride in that number even if you don’t keep close track of it.

Thanks Brandee! Halloween really changes as they get older I guess, huh? We’re lucky because Franky doesn’t do much of the teen Halloween stuff because he likes to hang with his little brother. But his little brother isn’t that far from being a teen now either…

I love your Fancy Nancy costume, Berls! And the idea of having the costumes come from books is awesome. I’m glad Halloween was good, both at school and at home.

108 pounds!!! Wow! I need some of whatever you are doing, I think. Well, not the stress, but the exercise and healthier eating. You inspire me!

Thanks Kara 🙂 I was surprised when I realized how much I’ve lost – but I still have a ways to go so I’m trying not to be too happy and relax, if that makes sense. I haven’t been doing much lately – just the eating healthy part. Work is active, but I need to get back to the gym, that’s a goal for this week.

That’s a great costume and it is good to hear you had a fun day. Congrats on the weight loss. I have to start tracking again and getting more exercise. I hope this is a good week for you and it goes by fast! I can’t wait for the weekend again lol.

Congrats on your weigh loss, that’s fantastic! A bonfire for Halloween sounds wonderful, and s’mores too. 🙂

I’m glad you and your class had fun for Halloween. Are things going better for you? Good luck with your surgery!

Thanks Bea! Things are going… I guess better I that I’m not working as many hours and things are total chaos anymore. But I still don’t enjoy it. I don’t think I’m going to – I’m just not the right fit for Kinder. I’m too serious, I think. But I’ll survive 🙂

  5. Greg

Keep on hanging on- it’s got to get better right (maybe?). Glad you had fun- great costume! And a bonfire sounds nice. We had rain here so it was a soggy Halloween in our area.

Thanks Greg 🙂 It’s gotten tolerable I guess, and that’s enough for now. As long as I can survive it and find time for other things that make me happy I figure I’ll be okay. The bonfire was great – we had some drizzle, but it stayed away last night thankfully. Have a great week!

  6. A Voracious Reader

That’s a great costume! And *high fives* on the weight loss! I need to lose weight. Seriously. It’s time to buckle down and get with a plan. Of course, I need to *make* that plan first…lol Take your time easing back into the blogging world. We’re here and we don’t want you feeling pressured to come back full strength. I know it’s a little ways away yet, but I will up the {{{posiivbes}}} for your surgery.

Thanks Carol! I’ve been going at it slowly but surely for a while – I have a metabolic disorder that doctors kept missing because it’s not an “official” disorder and so often there was this assumption that I was a “lazy pig” basically. Finally I had a doctor look closer and actually listen to me – since then I’ve been losing but it’s a struggle. I’m kind of amazed I’ve lost as much as I have because I still feel like there’s so much to lose 🙁 thanks to all of you for your patience – I feel guilty not visiting but I’m getting there! And thanks for the posivibes, I’m sure they’ll come in handy 🙂 Have a great week!!!

I am glad to hear you had one fun day teaching, although I think that only emphasizes how bad your job is the other days. I never heard of Fancy Nancy before, but your custome looks awesome and you look happy. I enjoyed seeing everyone sharing their costumes on social media as here halloween isn’t as popular yet.

And that’s exciting you are getting back into blogging again! Sounds like you’re making progress even though your job is stil bad. I am looking forward to see your posts this week and I hope you can join the My to-be read list meme again, I always have fun with that meme. I hope you have a great week!

Thanks Lola! Yeah, it does emphasize how bad the rest the days are, but I guess I’ll just keep doing my best and just try to be happy outside of work. I’m so excited to be getting back to blogging more – I’ve missed it so much and it’s just not worth it to miss out on the things I love.

I am sorry to see the job still isn’t making you feel happy, I was really hoping you would love it but I totally understand, little ones are hard to teach.

I am glad you are back in the bloggy mode. I think that will help with the job, get your mind on doing something you love!

    We will talk soon!

Lol thanks! I’m just not cut out for the really little ones I think. It’s okay, I’m almost to the halfway point and I’m finally managing to have time for my life things – like blogging. Hoping to start making the gym again this week too.

Thanks Lexxie! I didn’t know before this year Lexxie – but it’s a series of children’s books about a girl who likes to be fancy… And that includes Fancy vocabulary, which is my favorite part. They learn new words through the books – which they really need help with.

Have a great Sunday Lexxie 🙂

  9. Trish

Love the costume and the idea of dressing up as a book character. Sounds like a lot of fun and your Halloween maths class sounded awesome! I think you come across as a great teacher in your posts and I’m sad that the rest of week sucked for you. Well done on the weight loss 🙂

Thanks Trish! My class is actually doing pretty well – I had the kids take on of our monthly tests this week and they’ve all improved significantly, so it seems I actually am teaching them something. I just feel so frustrated all the time! If I could take 4 kids out of my class I might actually enjoy it – but those 4 kids ruin it for all of us all the time. :/

Thanks Ramona 🙂 it really was fun to see kids in costumes. We had a teacher dress up as the Mad Hatter and she looked awesome.
