Well I fell a little behind with this (like everything!), but I’m only one month behind… that’s not too bad! As you may remember I had a blast with the 2014 Book of the Year Bracket Challenge, hosted by the Erratic Project Junkie and decided that this year I wanted to do it quarter by quarter so that the bracket would be a bit more organized.
Since the bracket has four sections, I’m going to let each section represent a quarter of the year. In the end, my favorite book from each quarter will be up against each other (assuming I do this right). I’ve already choosen my first quarter, my second quarter and now it’s time to select the 3rd quarter!
My 2015 Book of the Year 3rd Quarter Picks
There are 16 spots to fill in the 3rd quarter section of the bracket and I read 21 books in the third quarter. I read only 2 books in September (so pathetic!). So there’s a lot less of a face off this time – only 4 spots are in contention. I decided I’d put the 8 books that I rated the lowest over the 3rd quarter (July – September) against each other and drop the one book that I really didn’t like – Beautiful Bastard. Also since this is like a total Kitty Norville fest, I made sure to face of six of those books… no need to over saturate it any further, eh? The rest just made it through because I read so little. Thankfully, I liked most everything I read this past quarter.
I’ll start with the ones in contention and then move on to the automatic placements.
Neither one of these books hit the sweet spot, but Marie Hall has always held a special spot for me. Any book by her – even if I didn’t love it – is going to have elements that I adore because I love her writing style. Gerard’s Beauty was no exception to that rule.
Spot #1 goes to Gerard’s Beauty by Marie Hall
I had a hard time deciding between these two, they were both 3.5 stars and both had significant reasons that I both liked them and was underwhelmed. But when I got down to really thinking about it, so much more happened that made me enjoy the series as a whole in one book – Kitty’s Big Trouble – so it’s the winner.
Spot #2 goes to Kitty’s Big Trouble by Carrie Vaughn
Although Kitty Goes to War wasn’t one of my favorites in the series, my only real problem was Cormac. I gave it 4 stars in my review. Kitty Steals the Show was also a four star read, but it had a few more problems for me.
Spot #3 goes to Kitty Goes to War by Carrie Vaughn
Kitty Raises Hell was a 4.5 star read for me – here’s my review. I went into Low Midnight pretty sceptical, since it was the only book not from Kitty’s POV. I ended up really enjoing it, but it was only 4 stars. Here’s my review.
Spot #4 goes to Kitty Raises Hell by Carrie Vaughn
This was one of my favorite books in the series – I know it gutted me a bit. Here’s my review. I gave it 5 stars!
Spot #5 goes to Kitty’s House of Horrors by Carrie Vaughn
I devoured this book and then ran into the next one so quickly, my review was particularly rough to write. But it was a definite 5 stars!
Spot #6 goes to Kitty Rocks the House by Carrie Vaughn
Concluding my Kitty binge, the end of the series was very satisfying and I’m eagerly awaiting more from Carrie Vaughn (I should go back and what else she’s already written too…). Check out my 5 star review.
Spot #7 goes to Kitty Saves the World by Carrie Vaughn
This was one of my #2015HW books that I’m really thankful I finally read. I haven’t managed to continue the series yet, but I really hope I will soon! Check out my 4 star review. I think I’m becoming a Hussie 😉
Spot 8 goes to Tragic by J.A. Huss
Whata fun book! I remember having a blast with this – and I know the audio MADE the book! I loved the way it also dealt with more serious issues too – check out my 4 star review.
Spot #9 goes to The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston
I fully intended to read book 2 immediately after finishing this one… I have the audio downloaded on my phone. Other books just keep getting in the way! But it was REALLY good – I gave it 5 stars in my review.
Spot #10 goes to A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
Even though I took too long to review it – I actually read this in August and it was a nice relief from my work stress. I gave it 4 stars in my review.
Spot #11 goes to The Duke’s Perfect Wife by Jennifer Ashley
I plan to give you this review this week (it’s written, just not setup). I really loved the world and characters – which you’ll ee in my 4.5 star review.
Spot #12 goes to Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine
This is another one that I’ve written the review for and will hopefully have out to you this week. I enjoyed the book so much and actually have the next one to read as well. You’ll see in my 4 star review… hopefully really soon
Spot #13 goes to The Art of Sinning by Sabrina Jefferies
Even though I had a difficult time reading this one, it was great and I know I will eventually read the next one. Here was my review.
Spot #14 goes to Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
This was a great start to a new series by Chloe Neill, which I raved about in my review. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
Spot #15 goes to The Veil by Chloe Neill
I have this review written already too – just haven’t shared it yet! Hopefully soon (this week maybe?) But I gave it 4 stars and need to read the others ASAP!
Spot #16 goes to Foreplay by Sophie Jordan
My 2015 Book of the Year Bracket – Quarter 3 added
The tough decisions have only started… but here’s how it’s shaping up looks:
I already see some matchup that are going to be rough and others that are going to be super easy… until they start narrowing down. I wonder what quarter will dominate!
Have you read any of the books I read during quarter 3? Any predictions for how my bracket will go? I’m thinking Kitty has a really great chance LOL!
