Animal behaviorist Grace Wilde keeps her ability to psychically communicate with furry and feathered critters under wraps. But when a Doberman turns out to be the only witness to a crime, Grace will have to let the cat out of the bag in order to catch a killer.

Grace Wilde’s job is anything but normal. When she’s not helping out at the zoo by comforting agitated lemurs, she’s listening to the woes of annoyed house pets. Grace’s life gets even more complicated, though, when the cops summon her to a crime scene to help deal with the murder victim’s terrified Doberman.

The pooch turns out to be the only one who saw what happened the night of the shooting—and only Grace can get the information out of him. The problem is, how will Grace tell the distractingly gorgeous Sergeant Kai Duncan that it’s the dog who’s giving her the intel without spilling her big secret or sounding crazy? Left on her own, Grace will have to follow the pup’s lead to track down the killer. But she’ll have to be careful—or curiosity may end up killing the cat whisperer.

If Woof at the Door hadn’t been a book club pick, I probably wouldn’t have ever read it. The title doesn’t appeal at all and the cover didn’t pull me in. But the first chapter? That had me: hook, line and sinker.

As an animal lover, a character like Grace – who not only loves them, but understands them in a way I wish I did because of her ability to telepathically communicate with animals – is so easy to love. Add to that – Grace has serious cajones! She may be small and self-doubting at times, but she’s learned how to be an alpha and it shows! I applauded her guts over and over.

I really enjoyed the mystery – it was so well put together that if I had picked up on the right clues I could have solved it, but of course I didn’t, making that reveal moment all the more exciting. Definitely a great cozy!

I really loved all the characters – particularly Grace’s sister, Emma, and the love-interest Kai. Oh and the animals! Laura Morrigan did a fantastic job with giving them personalities that are appropriate and bringing us into their minds in believable ways.

If you enjoy animals, cozy mysteries, and a character with supernatural abilites, I think you’ll enjoy Woof at the Door as much as I did.

Yes! I am so glad that you read something that you wouldn’t normally picked up and ended up liking it. I enjoyed this book myself. I found that the mystery was crafted better than the usual cozy.

LOL! It really doesn’t have great curb appeal, does it? But if you give it a chance it turns out quite good!
