April 2015 TBR List – Ooops!
I owe y’all an update – last month you selected a book for me to read- A Study in Silks – and I haven’t yet finished it. It is really interesting though and I just think it’s taken me so long because of this ridiculous funk I’ve been in. I plan to finish it this week and have a review sometime next week. So sorry!
May 2015 Voting
Even though I failed so badly at this last month, I don’t want to skip this month because seeing what y’all will pick for me is often a highlight of my month. I love reading the books y’all pick and I think I’m going to have a much better month.
My Three Choices
I’m focusing on review books in May thanks to Kimba’s Clean Sweep Arc Sweep Challenge. Since I only have 3 audio review books right now, though, I decided to pick three auidobooks from my #2015HW list – would be nice to be successful on both My TBR List and my #2015HW challenge this month! I’m also realizing that I’m running out of audiobooks on my #2015HW list… next year it may be ALL audiobooks!
- Mercy Blade by Faith Hunter
Narrated by Khristine Hvam
Jane Yellowrock, a shape-shifting rogue-vampire hunter-for-hire, is now taking blood money from the very vamps she used to hunt. But things start heating up in the Big Easy when weres announce their existence to the world, and revive the bitter tensions that run between them and their old enemies — vampires. Jane finds herself caught in the crossfire.
- Insurgent by Veronica Roth
Narrated by Emma Galvin
One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.
Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
- Stray by Rachel Vincent
Narrated by Jennifer Van Dyck
There are only eight breeding female werecats left . . .
And I’m one of them.
I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.
Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.
I’d been warned about Strays — werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female, and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.
This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back . . . for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I’m no meek kitty. I’ll take on whatever — and whoever — I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays — ’cause I got claws, and I’m not afraid to use them . . .
I’m actually listening to the book prior to this one (a leftover attempt to finish my #2015HW last month), so reading this would be nice for continuity. Or it could get boring. I never know LOL!
I’ve been meaning to read this one for a while and now that the movie is out I really want to – because I won’t let myself watch the movie otherwise. Of course, I said the same about If I Stay and Vampire Academy still haven’t seen those movies, so no real rush…
I REALLY enjoyed Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamer’s series and I’ve heard great things about this one, so I’m anxious to start it. But I’m also hesitant to start yet ANOTHER series with so many unfinished!
As you can see, I’ve reasons both for and against each of these as a next pick – so I’m really excited to see what you have to say!
