April 12, 2015 Sunday Post 23

Welcome to the 81st Edition of My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

I’ve had a busy week and it was a good one, so thanks for all the good wishes! Monday was my step-son’s birthday – he turned 15! I can’t get over how different he is from the little 5 year old I met 10 years ago. He’s a good kid and I’m proud of him, but I’m so not ready for him to be growing up! We spent Monday evening at his mom’s and that’s when I gave him the poncho he requested. I’m going to show you a picture of him in it – but I must note: He choose the colors and the pattern. It’s what he wanted – not exactly what I would have made. He goes to the beat of his own drummer (and we love him for it):

Franky in Poncho

The fringe is really straight, it’s just that he’s wearing it a bit crooked…

That was my first project where size mattered and I actually had to reduce the pattern because he’s so damn sknny. So I’m proud of how it turned out. We also went out for dinner Friday for his birthday – his restaurant of choice was Olive Garden (yay! I love that place).

Kiko & Franky - Dinner

Franky and his dad (my BF) at Olive Garden

We had a good time, though he did get into one of his moods because we all (his mom, his dad, and me) teased aout his hair needing to get cut. His hair is a constant battle – we don’t mind that he likes it longer, but we do insist on frequent trims to keep it looking less like a Q-tip. Hopefully, now that he’s 15, we’ll see a miraculous transformation and he act like an adult about his hair. LOL!

We also finally made the decision to sell the truck this week and took her into CarMax. We’ve had her for 5 years – we got her because we knew we’d have to move at least twice with my going to grad school and we didn’t want the added expense of Uhauls. Well she saw us through 8 moves in the last 5 years, not to mention 9 trips between Dallas and St. Louis (almost 700 miles each trip). She hasn’t been perfect – heater and air stopped working and we had to do this little battery trick so it wouldn’t die when the truck was off – but she never once broke down on us, which we especially appreciated when we drove through the night a few times between St. Louis and Dallas. So it’s bitter sweet letting her go, but it’s time. We drove her maybe 4 times in the last 2 months because we use my mom’s car more. Our truck was bad on gas (as all trucks are). So at 285,000 miles our 1998 F-150 is gone 🙁 I’m writing this Saturay morning, but we’re planning to go out this afternon and *hopefully* buy a car. Our goal is to get something roomy enough – I’m 5’11 and plus size (putting it nicely lol) – but also gas efficient enough for when I start having a daily commute.

Oh and my mom finished another coat for Buffy! She’s been planning on doing this one for a while, but other projects had to trump it. Isn’t it the cutest thing though?

Buffy's Winter Coat

Ignore the creepy glowy eyes!

My mom has plans for a sherlock holmes type hat to go with it, with holes for her ears. She probably won’t make that for a while, but I’ll share when she does 🙂

Blog News

I’ve been in a major reading slump. I’ll be finishing my yearly reread of Pride & Prejudice tomorrow (well Sunday – so today for you) and it just hasn’t been as enjoyable as usual. I think because I’ve really been fighting to not lose myself in grief this year and while that’s worked really well – I think I’ve had to disconnect myself from the book a bit to do it. I’m really looking forward to watching the A&E version of the movie today (Sunday) though, as is my tradition! Besides P&P if you were to go to my goodreads currently reading shelf right now, you’d see:

I typically read no more than two books at a time, but I couldn’t get into anything for a while. So these are the books I started, didn’t want to DNF so hope to get back to… with the exception of the Huss book! Thank goodness for J.A. Huss y’all! I finally was desperate and sent a begging tweet & FB message to Bookworm Brandee to borrow Block (Social Media #3) on Thursday. By time I went to bed I had finished it, already begged her to also send me Status (Social Meida #4), and finished it! Reading slump over! I’m currently on Profile (Social Media #5) but I highly suspect that I’ll be finishing up Home (Social Media #6 – last one) by time this post publishes. And then I think I’ll be ready to get back to my other books 🙂 Phew! Crisis averted! Thanks Brandee and J.A. Huss!

We’re also making progress on our COYER plans for the summer – Michelle has finished the first logo! Want to see?

#FitReaders Update

I had a really good week – I kind of hurt the muscle at the top of my leg (is that the groin muscle? I’m so bad at science….) doing some leg exercises on Wednesday so I took it easy and skipped the blogilates on Thursday and Friday. But otherwise, going strong! My mom actually had to take in a bunch of my clothes (thank god she can do that!) several inches this week. Yay!

I’m so glad your week was better than the last, Berls. And that Grace and Vaughn were able to help. 😉 I love Franky’s poncho! It’s awesome and I’m happy that he marches to the beat of a different drum. I have one like that as well. 🙂 And Buffy’s coat is amazing. Your mom is quite talented. Has she started selling them yet?!? 🙂 Great job on exercising. I’ve really slacked off on posting my progress and it’s not because I’m not exercising. :/

I hope this week will be just as wonderful…if not better! 29 more days!

OMG 29 days! I need to do better keeping count – I was counting and then forgot this week :/ So excited!

Thanks, I’m glad you like the poncho. I’m really happy that I was able to do it and that he liked it so much. He’s quite the character LOL. OMG yes, my mom is so talented, she’s been a sewing machine lately! If you have a dog that wants one (I forget if you have pets…!) I’m sure she’d do it for you. She’s not officially setup, but she has a few orders she’s working on 🙂

Well as long as you’re working out that’s the important bit, right? Reporting it really helps me keep going. Like I’m planning on finally trying out a zumba class tomorrow and there’s so a part of me thinking and I get to report that next week LOL!

Thanks again for Grace and Vaughn (I’m all finished – finished last night but it was too late to tweet), It was just what I needed to get out of my slump. I need to start on some of my other J.A. Huss books I have now! Have a great week 🙂

I think the poncho colors are great! But then again I go to the beat of my own drummer…but even off beat of that. 😛

Buffy is getting so spoiled with all of these clothes! I want to dress up my pups, but they will not go for that! Oh well.

Thanks Angie 🙂 LOL the colors worked out better than I thought they would, but he said “purple, green, white” and I spent a long time picking out shades that I thought would work in this pattern. It was a challenge!

LOL Buffy is so spoiled – my brother said she’s going to have a bigger wardrobe than him! But she’s just so darn cute in them 😛 The trick is, we’ve been dressing her up since she was 8 weeks – so she doesn’t know any better 😉

Thanks Bea – it was a good week and I’m really thankful for it 🙂 I’ll pass on the birthday wishes! I’m so relieved the poncho turned out, I was afraid it wouldn’t between the odd color combo that I had to find good shades for to the size sensitive pattern. Phew, right?!

      Have a great week 🙂

I’m so happy you’re a hussie now, Berls 😛 And I can’t wait to see what you think of her other books! I just finished Meet Me in the Dark (release date 4/15) today, and my head is still spinning!

I can’t remember if you’ve posted about your test results… as I was offline for a whole week, I might have missed it – but do you know yet?

Boys and their hair and other fashion choices… not to bring you down, but it might still take a while before your step-son takes your advice and trims his hair every now and then.

Only one more month and I’ll be in Dallas! Can you believe it?

Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading 🙂

    • Berls

I’m a TOTAL Hussie 😉 I have a couple of her other books, so I’ll be reading them shortly! I just need to work on clearing out my currently reading shelf, now that the funk is over.

I think you know about my first test right? I nailed it with a 291/300 🙂 Woot! But the ESL test had ANOTHER mix up and I’m taking it the 21st. I swear, they’re so lucky they have a monopoly on testing or they’d be out of buisness!

Yeah, I’ve totally accepted that Franky will be fighting us on his hair for a while – we give him pretty free range on his fashion and hair, but we refuse to let him run around with split ends fuzzing out making him look like a q-tip. That’s where we draw the line. *sigh* you’d think he’d be appreciative that we care enough to take care of him. LOL Someday right?!

Woot! 29 days!! I’m so excited!! Havea great week Lexxie 🙂

Actually, I hadn’t seen how you aced your first test, Berls. Congratulations!! I can’t believe all the mix-ups there have been with your tests… At least now you’ve had more time to study for the ESL test as well, and I’m sure you’ll do amazing on that, too.
Someday, kids suddenly become a little older, more mature, and actually realize that they have parents who love them very much 🙂 Especially my oldest keeps telling me she’s so happy we are her parents, and that just makes my heart burst with joy.

  4. Michelle

Buffy looks so elegant in her coat, just sitting very proper! LOL
Love the COYER Logo that Michelle really did a good job 😉

Good Luck car hunting we might be doing that soon since out VW isn’t cutting it anymore and I LOVE my car but it’s a money pit, always something wrong. Need to trade in for a new car once the truck is paid off, hoping that will be soon.

You are in a reading slump and I seem to be still stuck in a blogging one. I am trying so hard to get out of it but I can’t seem to shake it. I am hoping once both kids are back in school it will be better since I get my fridays back and the week of the 20th I took off Thursday so I plan to do nothing but blog Thurs and Fri maybe squeeze in some chat time with my Blogging Best Friend 😉

Have a great week! I will probably be texting you soon 🙂

Isn’t she adorable?! She’s so used to us dressing her up, she takes it in stride LOL. Yeah, that Michelle is pretty talented (oh did she manage to do some business cards for her needy bloggy friend? LOL I forgot to remind you this weekend).

The car hunting is exhausting, mainly because we’re too cheap and have high standards LOL. We want a perfect car for half the going price… hard to find. But we’ve done it many times, so I have confidence we’ll do it again. I’ll just be exhausted once we do…

Good luck with the blogging slump, my reading slump has been cured by J.A. Huss (thanks to the efforts of Brandee, of course)! I should be around both Thursday and Friday if you want to chat 🙂

I am behind on Outlander! I was out of town last week and this week we had a play to go see. Next weekend I’ll be at a wedding. It is so tough to see ads and to not have watched it. I guess the Jamie’s punishment scene stirred up some controversy.

Have a good week, Berls. And I’ll catch up on Outlander soon so I can read your recaps!

Sounds like you had a good week for a change! That poncho looks great. My sister always choses weird colour combinations like that as well.

That’s sad you had to sell your truck, but I hope you bought a ncie new car that’s mroe gas efficient. Havign a truck certainly helsp when moving. Last time we mvoed my boyfriend’s dad still had his truck and it really shortened the amount of drives we had to make back and forth. He now has a smaller car as he didn’t need to truck anymore.

That coat for Buffy looks great! I am really curious about the hat, that would look so cute!
And I can’t wait for the summer Coyer, the logo looks awesome! I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books!
