Harry Potter MOTW

Meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts

From Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts:
This is a meme I started and thought I’d (with a lot of help from Ula @ Blog of Erised) that I’d make a schedule of the posts to come if anyone wants to join in :). The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object, quote etc. from the books/ films/ J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! Each topic will be posted on this page for the week. There will also be free week where everyone can decide whatever topic they want!
All I ask in return is that you guys link back to my blog :). Hope you enjoy!

What would your Amortentia smell like?

I feel like you win a Harry Potter fan award if you rememember what an Amortentia is… so I’ll give myself an award 🙂 *bows* Yes, I’ve read the books way too many times. To be fair, reading Latin always made remembering things in the books easier for me.

We first hear about the Amortentia potion by name (at least as far as I remember) in Half-Blood Prince, when Professor Slughorn introduces it to the class. It’s the most powerful love potion and we have hints that it was how Merope Gaunt got Tom Riddle (Voldermort’s dad and namesake) to marry her. It’s also how Ron ends up obsessed with Ramilda Vane (eating candies meant for Harry).

Anyway, the Amoretentia has the side-effect of making people smell things that they find most attrractive – Hermonie smells fresh cut grass, new parchment, and (according to the movie) spearmint toothpaste (reminding her of Ron). Harry smells a treacle tart, a broomstick handle, and something flowery from the Burrow (probably Ginny).

So what would I smell?

Paper, slightly stale doritos, and freshly rising rolls.

Why? Okay, so the paper is probably fairly obvious. I’m a book sniffer – I love the smell of old books and new books for different reasons. And I love to write on paper and, I’m so weird, but I love the smell of the paper when I writing.

Slightly stale dorittos is weird, except if you’ve heard me say that my dog, Buffy, smells like old doritios. That’s her smell, which is great because that’s not bad for dog. And I adore her.

And then the freshly rising rolls – this has more than one element. On one side you have the childhood memories of my mom baking and me sneaking the dough (yes, I like the dough). On the other side, I have this past Thanksgiving – the first Thanksgiving I spent with my mom, my brother, his boyfriend, plus my boyfriend and step-son and his whole family. It was hands-down the best holiday experience I’ve ever had and the best feeling of family ever. And my mom and I baked rolls for like 4 hours that morning, linking it permanently with that day for me.

So what would your Amortentia smell like?

I would probably smell bread, indian spices, forest, rat and fresh laundry. I love the smell of fresh bread, although I actually hate bakign bread. I also love the smell of cookies or brownies or anything else I can bake. And I love the smell of indian spices, I often cook indian food and I like the combination of spices.

Just like you I would go for the smell of our pet rats, I can’t really describe it, but they smell ratty and it makes me fell homy and safe. I like to hold them in front of my nose and sniff them, okay that makes me sound a bit crazy, ah well. The smell is just so comforting. And I love the smell of fresh laundry. We have a fabric softener that’s supposed to smell like lavendel and combines with the normal laundry detergent it creates a nice smell. And I love the smell of forest it always makes em feel safe, a little nostalgic and a bit sad as it’s usually means we’re on vacation and I love the forest. My dream house would be close to a forest. Great topic!
