March 22, 2015 Sunday Post 30

Welcome to the 78th Edition of My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

Things continue to be crazy at home, but I guess crazy is my normal right? The latest development on the teaching exam is yet another story in frustration and wasted time. If you remember, I had to cancel my exam the first time about 3 weeks ago because of bad weather that made it impossible for me to get there (and resulted in a wasted day). This was no problem and I was rescheduled for free to take the test this past Thursday, March 19th. (If you don’t want the detailed story, skip to the last paragraph in this section…)

Well.. all went well in terms of getting there. I left my house about 10:50 and arrived at 11:15, got all checked in, etc. At 11:40 I signed in to the second stage, where they run a metal detector over you, check your pockets, take your finger prints, picture, and log you into the computer with your driver’s license before assigning you to a computer terminal to take the test. I did all that and the lady said, “Hmm that’s weird. Let’s try that again.” Uh-oh. So we do it again. And again. Then I’m asked to go sit in the loby again (back to stage one) while she calls the help desk.

Twenty minutes later, another test-taker comes out and says that something was wrong and they’re calling the help desk for her too. We start talking, figuring out what we have in common. Turns out, we both had to cancel and reschedule because of the weather. We’ve found the problem, but not the solution.

One hour later, we get called back to stage two – do the whole metal detector, pockets thing again – and they tell us they think they have it figured out. Then we spend the next hour doing finger prints, license swipe, pictures as they try over and over, while on the phone with the help desk, to get us into a test. No luck. They suggest we go get a bite to eat on the first floor (it’s in a mall-like building) and come back twenty minutes later.

Twenty minutes later, we return with our food and they’re still on the phone with the help desk. At this point it’s pushing 2:00pm- we’ve been there since 11:15 or so and our tests are 5 hours long, ONCE WE GET STARTED, which has yet to happen. We eat our lunch, listening as they talk on the phone to help desk, answer calls from other parts of the help desk, etc. Finally, at 3:45 they come out and tell us that they’ve found the problem, and our only option is to reschedule. They have to reset the entire system – not at the testing center, but at headquarters – to fix our status. See, we were marked as no-shows because no one bothered to notify our testing centers when we had to cancel and no-shows don’t get to retake tests for like 6 months or something. And if they reset the system all the tests in the state of Texas currently being taken would be deleted. Who came up with that system?!?

So – here’s where you pick up if you skipped the long story – I had to call to reschedule Friday morning after spending yet another day and $18 parking attempting to take the test! I’m rescheduled for tomorrow, so please, cross your fingers for me! I’m starting to think that taking the test will be more of an accomplishment that passing it!

Blog News

Well I’m back from my blog break 🙂 Yay! It was exactly what I needed and I’m feeling refreshed and I’m even caught up a bit. I plan to use bloggiesta to get really on track though!

#FitReaders Update

The foot is doing a lot better, though I still have to be careful. I’ve noticed that I have to ice my foot at the end of the day or the next day it hurts all day. I still get random burning pain through it, but I’m almost back to my routine. I’m taking walks with Buffy in the morning instead of jogging and I’m back to water aerobics three times a week. I’m still not aiming for 10K steps a day though, since doing what I am doing seems to be enough to make it hurt if I don’t ice it. So, probably a few more weeks before I get up to 10k steps a day. Right now I’m averaging around 7K steps a day.

Days counting calories: 14! (two weeks) And I’m consistently coming below calories!

I hope things were straightened out and you were able to take your test, Berls. My goodness! You’d think that with the shortage of good teachers, they wouldn’t make it quite so difficult for those wanting to be a teacher (and who’ll be a great one!) to take the required exam! I’m glad you enjoyed your blog break and I’m glad you’re back!! Hope you’re having a great week!

I am, thanks. Mostly because I finally took my exam yesterday!!! I won’t know until Friday or Monday how I did but I feel good about it. Fingers crossed!

What a mess! I hope you were able to take it today without problems! And that you passed, of course! 😀

I’ve had to cut back on Fit Readers, too, since my knee is still bothering me! I have no idea what I did to it to make it hurt for this long! Blah.

I skipped the story because I knew it already lol. I have my fingers crossed Monday will finally be the day and you can get it over with and start on your new adventure 🙂

Welcome back officially! I am glad the break was good! You deserved it!!!

You got a lot of books, thank goodness COYER will be back again in June lol.

Have a great week Kim! Thanks for the chat the other day, I missed talking to you and I really needed it! <3

You bet – me too! I always love our chats! I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll finally take my test tomorrow – and PASS it. Yikes! With all these false starts I’m worried :/

Thanks Reanna! I’m definitely more nervous than I was the first time I was going to take it, because now I really don’t have time to retake. So send good vibes all afternoon please 🙂

Oh, wow, talk about silly systems! Well, now, at least you know that you have to be prepared for silliness… I’m sorry you had to reschedule again, and I will cross my fingers for you tomorrow, though you don’t need luck. You’ll ace it, I just know it! 🙂 Keep icing that foot in the evening, and hit me back soon with good news! Your new books look awesome.

Right?! What a mess! And it hasn’t done much for my confidence :/ I appreciate your belief in me, hopefully you’re right! I should be good, but this is a rough test and I’m not a great tester… so I’ll take all the good vibes you can send 🙂 Have a great week – I hope to have good news Sunday!

Lol yep! It’s those book bub emails! I need to cancel them because I’m able to resist the first paying for books, but if a free one sounds good I suck at reminding myself that I have like 600 books already to read! LOL!

      Thanks! Fingers crossed:)

Wow that must have been frustrating to spend the whole day there and then still not having done the test. I hope you had a book with you. Fingers crossed you can take the test tomorrow and you pass!

I a glad to hear you fee refreshed after your break and I am happy that you’re back!

I also got Hardcore this week as Michelle keeps mentioning what a good series it is, so I had to grab my copy!

Oh that was the worst part I forgot to mention – we aren’t supposed to bring anything with us. I didn’t even have my cell phone, let alone a book. I had my wallet and that was it 🙁

Haha Michelle texted me to tell me it was free – I figured I couldn’t resist that. Plus, for Michelle to recommend an erotica is huge!

Good luck with your test tomorrow, Berls!

I had to take a bit of a break this past week as well. I came down with a nasty cold and couldn’t focus on much of anything, but sleeping and watching TV. It feels good to be back commenting on blogs and catching up with everyone.

    Have a great week.

Grr I hate wasting my time so I totally know how you feel. Sorry you had to go through all that. But I’m glad that you’re back with some new books too. Great post, Berls 🙂

Urrggh what a waste of a day and what a stressful situation to be in. Even if you ended up taking the test, it wouldn’t have been an ideal pre test scenario. They put a LOT of though into that system :O Good luck for when you finally get to take it.
Hope the foot mends fully soon. I love Water Aerobics, I can’t fit a class into my life right now but I think it’s such a fun workout and I love that I don’t get all hot and sweaty! 🙂

I know, I was thinking that too. Even though it was frustrating, I think being that stressed before the test couldn’t have been a good thing.

I love water aerobics and our gym- LA Fitness- offers a lot of classes. It’s great for low impact. Once I start teaching, though, I’m not sure I’ll be able to go 🙁

Oh how frustrating and what a crazy system! I will definitely be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. Third times a charm right! I read one Laura Bradford last year or so and really enjoyed it. I have no idea why I haven’t read more but I look forward to your review! Have a great week!

Thanks Katherine! That’s what I’m hoping too 🙂 I haven’t read any Laura Bradford yet, but I so enjoyed her posts during our Murder at the Reinhart event that I had to grab the first book in that series!
