Sunday Post | 77th Edition

March 8, 2015 Sunday Post 33

Welcome to the 77th Edition of My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

This past week was pretty intense, both good and bad. I don’t want to talk about the bad – I think it’s settled anyway. It just left me feeling really emotionally exhausted. The good though, is GREAT. I have finally worked out the details with my grad adviser and they are no longer going to practically hold my Master’s degree hostage by insisting that I do the PhD that I do not want to do. So I’ll be wrapping up my Masters in August and I will have full funding – including my living stipend until then. What a relief! Just lots and lots of studying to do between my teacher certification exams and my Master exams!

I also finished another knitting project 🙂 One of my very good friends is having a baby in April and yesterday was the shower. This being my first blanket, I sorely underestimated how long it would take me to finish. So after hours and hours of knitting the past few days, I finished pretty much 1 hour before the shower. Yeah. Cut it close. But I’m so proud of the finished product. Pretty good for my first blanket, right?

I had to do all four triangles separately and then sew them together – the longest rows have 99 stitches, so that’s where it took a lot of time. And it also involves crochet work around the edges, and I’m not a fan of the crochet hook :/ But I learned a lot with this one and I really am happy with it.

Blog News

COYER is over 🙁 I’m so happy with how the event went and I’m already super excited for summer! If you participated, please head over to the wrap up post to take the survey so we can keep improving COYER!

On another note, I’m exhausted. Life has been throwing my some curve balls and I have a lot on my plate. So I’m taking a blog break. I plan to stop in on Sundays for a little bit and if I have any post commitments, those will still go up. But you won’t see a lot of me until the end of the month. Just a break though, I’ll be back 🙂 And you’ll probably get some comment replies from me over that time since I will still be working on the blog – trying to do some catch up work and such.

#FitReaders Update

As I stand on my treadmill desk right now, I’m actually putting all my weight on the right foot because I think I’ve pushed too much this week 🙁 The stress fracture (I assume that’s what’s up) isn’t quite better and I just am so anxious to be up and about. I’m going to try and balance a bit better this week and focus on icing – I’ve been negligent with that this week. I started doing blogilates 30 day thigh challenge and 30 day abs challenge this week – I finished day 5 today and I’m actually less sore than I was on day 2. Does that mean I’m getting stronger already?

So glad to hear your degree is sorted out though I’m mad that they made you stress out about it! That blanket is awesome though, too bad I can’t pop over and help with the crocheting bits, haha. I hope you relax lots during your break and don’t stress out about us, we’ll be hear when you get back 😉

The baby blanket is amazing, Berls! Congrats on finishing, in time, and doing such a beautiful job. You’re far more adventurous with knitting that I am. 🙂 I’m glad the good and the bad have shaken out well (mostly?) for you. I’ll be sending you some positive and healing thoughts, okay? Enjoy your break from the blog and take care of YOU! *hugs*

Haha well I’d be happy to knit you one, just let me know colors and style you want 🙂 Sea of Shadows was pretty good. I didn’t LOVE it, but I enjoyed it! Hope your having a good week!

    • Berls

Thanks Kimba 🙂 I’m really happy with how the blanket turned out. And thanks for joining us for COYER! Hope you’re having a good week.

Sometimes a blog break is exactly what is needed. I hope you enjoy yours!! I have a feeling that I will be taking one as soon as soccer/baseball season starts up next month. I’m a huge fan of the J.D. Robb series so I’m glad to see that you enjoyed Naked in Death so much. The series just keeps getting better so enjoy!! Have a great week!!

Thanks Samantha! Yes, sometimes you just need a break – I’m already feeling less overwhelmed! I’m glad I decided to jump into the In death series, despite being so behind – because its really good! I just wish there weren’t so many books already! Hope you’re having a good week!

    • Berls

Thanks Zareena! I went through a similar phase years ago and just now got back to knitting. I love it so much now though, so I don’t think I’ll ever stop 🙂

  4. Ramona

First off, I’m really glad about your master. Well done, Berls! Secondly, it sucks that you’ve had a rough time lately, but it sounds as though you negotiated the obstacles and came out the other side well. Good on you! The blanket is exquisite – it must have taken you forever to get it done 🙂 I’ll miss you – but I support your decision to take it easy for a while. Have a great week!

Thanks Ramona! I needed thus break – I’ve been getting a lot done, including much needed rest 🙂 I’m so proud of the blanket – it’s my biggest project ever and it turned out better than I could have hoped. I hope you’re having a great week!

    • Berls

Thanks Laura! I hope this blanket gets as much love 🙂 I’m just so glad it turned out well – I was nervous! Have a great week

  5. Bea

Sorry to hear life has been so rough lately but that’s good news about your master’s degree! YAY! The blanket is pretty, nice work. I hope life calms down for you. I enjoyed COYER and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Thanks Bea. I’m glad you enjoyed COYER and I’m so excited for summer, since we have lots of great ideas already 🙂

  6. Katherine

I love the blanket! My sister-in-law gave us a blanket similar to that when the Tornado was born and I used it all the time with him. I love how warm they are but the weave is loose enough that you don’t have to worry if it does somehow get over their face. Good luck with wrapping up your master’s program! I love blogilates! I haven’t done many of her workouts in awhile but they’re always fun. Have a great week!

Thanks Katherine! I’m so happy with how it turned out and hope it gets similar use 🙂 Blogilates kick my butt. I’m doing her challenges, but my core isn’t strong enough to do even day 1 of the beginner’s work out! I’m doing the challenge first, hoping that by the end I’ll be able to do the workout! Have a great week 🙂

  7. Michelle

LOVE THE BLANKET! I have a bunch of half blankets I have done but never finished, I really need to finish at least a few 🙂

A break is good! I think everyone needs one every so often it just helps.

I can’t wait to see what you think of Sea of Shadows, I can’t wait for the next one but I wonder if you will feel the same as I did.

Have a great week, my friend! chat day SOON!!!!!

It was quite the project, I can easily see why you’d have several unfinished!

I had no idea you’ve read sea of shadows, it’s not one I’d expect you to read for some reason. I like it so far, but I’m not into it yet. We’ll see.

Yes, we really need to have a chat day!

  8. Jessica @ a GREAT read

WOW! The blanket turned out so nice! It’s very pretty!! At least you got it done in the nick of time too! LOL!

And what great reads! I’ve only read Sea of Shadows, but I loved it! Naturally, since it’s Kelley Armstrong! LOL! Hope you enjoy all your new reads!

Stop by my STS when you get a chance!

    Have a GREAT day!

Thanks! Lol just in time! I thought about giving up in Friday and just finishing sometime before the baby is born – but then I got so close, I couldn’t quit!

I’ve started Sea of Shadows and so far I like it okay. It’s actually my first Kelley Armstrong! O_o

      Have a great week!

  9. Lola

I am sorry to hear about the bad stuff, but happy it is all solved. And that’s great news about your master, good luck with studying. Here we don’t really have a masters exam, but I did have to do a research and write my thesis to gte my degree.
That blanket looks awesome, what an accomplishment! And wow that must have taken a lot of time to make! I enjoy seeing pictures of your knitting projects.
I already filled in the Coyer survery yesterday, I am sad it’s over, but you all did a great job hosting it and next is summer coyer, can’t wait for that!

And yay for getting Sea of Shadows, I still haven’t read it though, but it sounds so good! It’s part of my reading assignment, so I will get to it this year.

Thanks – I’m glad it’s resolved too. Sometimes life just gets messy I guess. I’m so relieved about my Masters, I’ve been fighting for almost two years to get them to let me quit with my Masters, and I’ve had all but the exams done this whole time.

I’m really happy with how the blanket turned out and I learned a lot doing it, especially about how long these projects can take!

I’m reading Sea of Shadows now and so far it’s pretty good, I think you’ll enjoy it 🙂 Time to start the count down for Summer COYER:)

    • Berls

I totally understand that! Sometimes responsibilities really get in the way. Maybe this summer will work for you 🙂 Thanks so much, I’m really happy with how the blanket turned out. Have a great week!

  10. Red Iza

This cover is beautiful, congrats on your first cover achievement 😉 I used to crochet covers for my daughters when they were little – I’m not big on knitting, the reverse of you. Yes, you’re getting stronger ! I intend to do some Blogilates too, I love looking at the site but I’m not sure I can keep up, lol. Take good care of you, take your time, take it easy on the ankle. I’m sorry life has been hard on you and hope you’ll feel better soon. *Hugs* !

Thanks, I’m so happy with how it turned out 🙂 I had to do a bit of crocheting on this blanket and it was so frustrating – I’m capable, but it really slows me down because I have a hard time keeping the yarn at the right tightness to move well with the hook – I either get it too tight or too loose. :/

Thanks – I’m trying to do better icing the ankle and balancing time on and off it. Going to focus on me a bit the next few weeks and get everything better. Have a great week!

    • Berls

Thanks! I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would pick a pattern that requires knitting, crocheting, and sewing for my first blanket O_o! Glad you enjoyed COYER! looking forward to summer already:)
