Last week Reanna @ Phantasmic Reads shared her first (I believe) Harry Potter MOTW post and I immediately headed over to Uncorked Thoughts to see what future themes were! I love Harry Potter and this is a structured way to talk about it EVERY WEEK 🙂 I’m so in!
Best ‘Neville Moment’
I adore Neville! He’s actually a lot how I picture Eric, the main character in my short story “Simulated Perfection.” He has a quiet courage, unlike so many of the characters – Harry, Hermione, Ron – and as a result his early moments really endeared me to him. His first year was so rough, but he ended it as a character to take notice of – with Dumbledore awarding him 10 points for the courage to stand up to his friends. I was so happy for him at that point!
And that began the transformation from awkward, accident prone little boy to leader of Dumbledore’s Army and the man who brought down Voldemort’s final horocrux – the snake, Nagini. I loved watching him grow, so picking THE MOMENT to spotlight was hard. I mean watching Neville dancing around by himself before the big ball? When he was the one observant enough to know about the Room of Requirements? When he went with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Luna to the Department of Mysteries and fights Death Eaters? When he uses plants – PLANTS – to attack Voldemart’s invading army? What moment should I pick…?
Well I may be going for the most obvious one, but when Neville stands up to Voldemort and kills Nagini, made me cheer (while crying of course, because that whole damn book was a tear fest)! I’m going to show the clip, but since the movie changed this bit and didn’t show it all back-to-back like in the book, I’ll just show the part where Neville saves the day and takes out the last horocrux. But if you want to read it in all it’s goodness, start on about page 731 in the hardcover (yes, I reread the ending when I set this post up…)
