A Note About DNFs

We had a really good question come up about DNFs and we realized that we never addressed them in the rules. We don’t want to force people to conform to our treatment of DNFs – some people consider the book read and done, others don’t. So you have two choices for how you’ll treat your DNFs:

  1. They Count – if you decide your DNFs count, when you DNF a book, you simply cross it off and count it towards the number of books from the list read in that month. Simple and definitely the easiest route.
  2. They Don’t Count – if you decide your DNFs don’t count, when you DNF a book, you remove it from your list and replace it with a new book (decision must be made my 1st of next month). This options means it does not count towards your total of books read that month and you must read another book from the list in its place. This is much harder, because you may DNF a book on the last day of the month – making it much harder to get in another book. But if that’s how you feel about DNFs, more power to you!

Here’s the MOST important thing about DNFs:

You must be consistent! If you decide to count a DNF this month, from here on out, your DNFs will count. If you decide not to count a DNF this month, from here on out they will not count. You can’t change it later.

Please let us know if you have any questions about this – ultimately, it’s about how you feel about DNFs. Okay – not to the good stuff 🙂

February Report Card

I’m still racing to the finish line actually – which makes two months in a row that I’m cutting it close! Not a good trend I’m developing here. I’m about 80% done with book 1 and 50% done with book 2, and with two days to finish I think I’ll make it. I’m updating my homework list here and will hopefully be on target by the end of the day Saturday! So if you’re like me – don’t panic, you still have a couple days to finish up!

How’d you do?

It’s your turn to check in! Link up in the linky below to a blog post (or updates to your original sign up post), a Goodreads Update, a Facebook or Twitter post, etc. and let us know:

Same here! I did a little better than last month, where I finished the last book 1 hour before February :/ I finished Book 1 on the 27th and Book 2 on the 28th (early in the day this time). I need to do better this month!

  1. Stormi

It was getting close there with mine but I did finish them on time. I don’t have a review for Shadowfever yet so I wrote a short one on Goodreads and counted it so I hope that works. 🙂 Carrots and Shadowfever were my two books for February. 🙂

  2. A Voracious Reader

I count DNFs as read as long as I read at least 25%. I figure that’s plenty of time to get better if it’s not going so good or hasn’t caught my attention. Books under the 25% mark get marked DNF, but I don’t rate them. The only exception for this rule was Fifty Shades of Grey. I couldn’t stomach the writing so bailed before 25% and marked it a 1.
