My TBR List

My TBR List is a meme hosted by Michelle @ Because Reading where we get some help picking out what to read next. We sit for hours looking through our TBR lists wondering when we will ever get to that one book we were dying to read when we added it 3 months ago or maybe even a year. So each month we pick 3 books from our TBRs and let everyone else vote on which one to read. We announce the book the second week and by the end of the month, we review it!

I’m a bit late getting my list up today – but I’m excited to see what y’all will pick for me. You’ve done awesome so far, picking books that I’m really glad I read (even if I haven’t LOVED them).

January 2015 Voting

As usual, these are all books that would fulfill a requirement for the Goodreads SRC challenge – this time they all appear on the Causes of Ugly Crying list – which means, I’ll probably be crying for this month’s pick! And they’re all COYER approved 🙂

My Three Choices

  1. 10194514Pushing the Limits by Katie McGary

So wrong for each other …and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal.

But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

  2. 17675462The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we’ve never been before.

  3. 18115061Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young

One simple lesson in seduction between two friends can turn into so much more…

Despite her outgoing demeanor, Olivia is painfully insecure around the opposite sex—usually, she can’t get up the nerve to approach guys she’s interested in. But moving to Edinburgh has given her a new start, and, after she develops a crush on a sexy postgrad, she decides it’s time to push past her fears and go after what she wants.

Nate Sawyer is a gorgeous player who never commits, but to his close friends, he’s as loyal as they come. So when Olivia turns to him with her relationship woes, he offers to instruct her in the art of flirting and to help her become more sexually confident.

The friendly education in seduction soon grows into an intense and hot romance. But then Nate’s past and commitment issues rear their ugly heads, and Olivia is left broken-hearted. When Nate realizes he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, he will have to work harder than he ever has before to entice his best friend into falling back in love with him—or he may lose her forever…

I was just commenting back to you about my My TBR…and you mentioned you had a Stiefvater book on your list and I was like, wait, I didn’t vote for a Stiefvater book…BECAUSE I FORGOT TO VOTE!! Duh! Not that my vote will make much of a difference, but I want my say. 😉 SO I’m voting for The Raven Boys – it’s also on my TBR, just not for this month. I do so love Maggie’s writing. I’ve read her Wolves of Mercy Falls series and her Books of Faerie series (she has another book in this series coming *squee*) and they’re all fantastic! Sky, my oldest, has read them too. Anyway, I’m thinking TRB is gonna win and I can’t wait to see what you think!

Hmmm interesting. You’re the second nay on Raven Boys after having read it. I’m getting super curious about it now – I hadn’t heard much about it before now!

I’m almost 50% done with The Raven Boys, i don’t see how it can make you cry, yet! But maybe i’ll find out! I voted for it, i like it so far, it’s kinda all over the place but not in a bad way. :]

Oh cool! Well its a goodreads list and those things aren’t always too dependable – so there may be no reason to cry. We’ll see (since I’m pretty sure it’s going to win)!

It’s one I’ve seen around a lot too, so I was expecting it to win – but based on comments I have a feeling Raven Boys is going to win. Can’t wait to see the results 🙂

I’m glad to hear the others are good – I’m curious about Young, but I have a feeling Raven Boys is going to win this one based on the comments LOL. We’ll see!

Pushing the Limits was the book that got me into reading contemporary romances, so this was an easy pick. I loved that book so much and it toally changed my opinion of contemporary romance as a genre. I still need to catch up on the series though. I have heard of both other books you listed as well, although I haven’t read those.

That’s the one I was expecting more people to pick Lola. I have a feeling Raven Boys is going to win – but Pushing Limits is still high on my list for later.

Lol its funny because of the books in this list, that’s the one I’d heard the least about – but apparently its very popular because EVERYONE seems to know about it! Lol I have a strong feeling I’ll be reading it 🙂

      Twitter:

Woot! Another Raven Boys! I think they may just get a clean sweep – though I haven’t looked at the actual votes yet. Crazy, I never dreamed they’d win! Thanks for voting 🙂

Yeah, I’m thinking that Ugly Cry list was a bit off, but that’s okay. I don’t feel an overwhelming NEED to ugly cry LOL. I think Raven Boys is going to win based on comments, so I’m getting more and more curious.

    • Berls
      Twitter:

Me too – I’m shocked by how many people are familiar with this book that was a total unknown to me! LOL these votes never go as expected, which I love 🙂

She’s an unknown for me, so I’m curious. It’ll be interesting (if Raven Boys wins) to see how it turns out – I’m surprised by how many people are familiar with her/it – I’d never heard of it when I grabbed it as a freebie!

I love books that make me cry, but only can handle them periodically. Coincidentally, based on people’s comments, you’ve chosen the one least likely to make me cry LOL
