January 4, 2015 Sunday Post 37

Welcome to the 69th Edition of My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

Happy 2015 y’all! I hope everyone has had a great start to their year! Before the year ended, though, we got to visit with my mom’s half-brother and his family. You may remember that we drove to Austin back in May to meet them for the first time and they were here in Dallas this week for the holidays. So on Monday we (my mom, brother and I) met up with them for a trip to the Perot Museum and then lunch. And then Tuesday we met them for an IHOP breakfast before the hit the road. It was a fun time and I know my mom was really happy to see her new-found brother again.

Then it was Wednesday already and the end of the year! We had planned to go out for dinner, but stopped by my step-son’s mom’s house on our way and they were cooking so we ended up staying there. My step-son was SUPPOSED to tell us and invite us, but – well he’s a 14 year old on Christmas break, so really, are you surprised that didn’t happen? LOL! We had a good time – fajitas and drinks and s’mores at the fire pit – because it was COLD! Not to your northerners but for this Texan the weather we’ve been having is the pits. 30s and rain all day every day. No fun. Anyway, since we didn’t go out on NYE we ended up going on Friday night and had a yummy dinner at Joe’s Crab Shack. After which I came home and tried to blog. I say tried, because my boyfriend made me a margarita. Which he refilled for me on the sly. I didn’t realize what had been happening until things stopped making sense and I asked him how much tequila he’d used in my 1 margarita. Turns out, I’d had almost a bottle of tequila. Yep. Michelle and Stormi got some funny, blog related messages around the time of my discovery. Weirdest drunk texts ever LOL! Thankfully I warded off any real damages with my proven hangover prevention plan – water, banana, and vitamin c. Works every time. I did, however, spend all of Saturday very lazily, trying to recover the lost blog work time. This is why I’m always behind I think!

Blog News

Nothing that you can’t find in my other posts below – COYER is going strong now and we’re wrapping up the first read-a-thon and mini-challenge tonight. I signed up for a million challenges for the year this week (well 10, but it feels like a million). I got my blog back to non-holiday design, but changed the colors up a bit for fun. And I’ve been playing with my weekly schedule a bit, so you’ll notice some changes next week – including a return to Fun Questions discussion posts.

COYER Update

Blogosphere Fun

I’m still a bit behind on my visiting, but…

Top Off Tuesday is Retiring 🙁 I’m so sad about this, but it had a good three year run! It will be missed!

New Books

I started my book buying ban (see #shelflove challenge for details) as of January 1. Now I can still grab freebies, use my gift cards, and accept review books. But I can already see this is going to take some retraining, I’m not used to not grabbing a book as soon as I see that $0.99 price tag! I did great this week, though (I know, it’s only the 3rd… Shhh!) and only grabbed one freebie (linked to goodreads)!

I can relate to 14 year old boys on Christmas break being spacey! I’ve been trying to get my 16 year old to get me his permit # so I can make an appointment for HIS driver’s test but he can’t seem to remember. AAGH!! I’ve been assured that they grow out of it but not soon enough to be helpful for me! Ah well he’s a good kid in other ways. Sounds like you had a nice break and an interesting NYE! Have a great week!

Haha you’d THINK he’d be all over that! But yeah, teenage boys & Christmas break are particularly spacey. If spacey is my worst complaint, I know I’m lucky though 🙂

      Have a wonderful week!

Lol drunken blogging would probably be dangerous. I had emailed an author earlier in the evening – thank goodness I didn’t try later on… That would have been bad! Glad I’m not the only one who’s had a close call 🙂 Have a great week Bea!

Yey Fun Questions! I love those posts :D. Also I’m so jealous of all your good eating, I want s’mores but the season is completely over here D: Probably my favorite part of the fall besides the pretty colors, ha!

Lol s’mores are pretty great! We have a fall-like winter generally speaking, so this is our s’more time 🙂 (it was too hot in the fall for a fire)! I’m looking forward to getting back to my fun questions posts, I’ve missed them. Have a great week Anya!

When I loaded this post, I was like “Hm, her blog looks pinker than usual.” Your Christmas design is gone, duh! LoL

I love Joe’s Crab Shack! I haven’t been in FOREVER though. I think the last time was my 20th birthday when they made me ride a pony on a stick around the restaurant. 😛

LOL yep pinker and I added purple, which I’m loving since purple is my absolute favorite color!

I used to not like seafood too much, but now I’ve learned that I like shell fish, which makes Joes Crab Shack perfect for me 🙂 Do you have a video of that? Because I’d so love to see it LOL!

      Have a great week Angie!

I should have asked your some fun questions when you messaged me while under the influence of tequila..hehehe. You did good only getting one freebie..I did good not getting any netgalley or edelweiss this week..yeah I am sure that was just pure luck..lol. 🙂

It’s really cold here..it’s 15 degrees and it’s SNOWING! 🙁 (not snowing to much but still..I don’t want it!)

    Have a great week!

LOL who knows what I would have said, I get silly when I drink 😛

I’m so proud of myself for resisting and just grabbing the one freebie! Let’s see if I can keep this up. Good luck with staying away from NetGalley and Edelweiss!

Snowing 🙁 No fun! I don’t miss that about living in St. Louis at all – we have fall weather in the winter here and that’s how I like it! Have a great week 🙂

Oh yes, we get along really well. In fact, we spend all our holidays with them at their house and are really close. They’re family – all her kids, her mom, her aunts LOL – we’re a weird family but a big loving one 🙂

The margarita was so sneaky but thankfully I didn’t get sick at all -just sleepy and silly. Thank goodness!

      Have a great week Steph!

LOL I really am happy with my header – it’s so me. But when I put it back up I couldn’t remember the original colors. So I thought what the heck, I’ll have fun and change up the colors. If you ever want something done fairly cheap you should ask Michelle @ Because Reading. She’s just getting her business going so she’s a good deal and she does great work.

Yay for MPM, I’m ready!!! 😉 Have a great week Carol!

LOL you really do! What makes that an even funnier statement is that my stepson’s mom’s name is Tequila LOL!

I forgot to mention that but I put away all the decorations this week and went on a cleaning spree getting the house back in order after the hurricane Christmas :0

      Have a great week Laura!

Happy New Year and lol at trying to blog drunk, I guess that doesn’t really work too well. Hope the weather improves soon! I like your design with the new colours, it’s a bit more cute with that light pinkish background.

I’ll have to make sure to stop by your fun question this week as I am horrible with remembering character names. Sometimes when writing reviews I have to look up a character name as I forgot.

Lol no it really doesn’t! Thanks – I like the new colors, its just what I needed to freshen things up a bit without making a big change.

I have the same problem with character names, which is what inspired my post 🙂 Have a great week Lola!

You did have a great week, Berls. I’m glad you got to spend so much quality time with your family. Even though it’s cold… 😉 My MIL has been complaining about how cold it is there as well. I won’t bother telling you the temps we’ve had here – I’ll just say we have about a foot of snow on the ground. 😉 I giggled over you having trouble with the no book buying – I’m experiencing the same problem. I didn’t start it until Jan 1 so I did some one-clicking prior to then, but I’ve really had to restrain myself. LOL We can do it!! But in the words of my daughter…”it’s haaarrrd!” 😀

See, snow and I do not get along. I know this well, because I just came off of living in St. Louis for three years and those crazy people make you go out in the snow! LOL! 😉 Stay warm Brandee & have a great week!

Oh my goodness! He served you more margaritas on the sly? I would love to see the messages you sent to Stormi and Michelle 😀 I’m sure they were fun to decipher 😀

You were very good, Berls, with only getting one book, I was not good at all this week, but I really need to stop all my requesting – and at the same time, I’m always so eager to read books by my favorite authors, and if I can do that before the book is released, I’m in blogger-heaven!

I’m glad you had a nice New Year celebration, and that you and the BF also got to go out for dinner. It sounds like the time with your mom’s brother was good, too.

Have a spectacular Sunday, Berls 🙂 Happy reading.

He did! To be fair, it probably wouldn’t have been so on the sly if I hadn’t been so focused on my blogging. Yeah, my messages weren’t entirely coherent – I’m just thinking, “who drunk texts about blogging?” Really?

I know what you mean, its hard to resist books when they are by authors we love, especially when you can get them for free AND before publication. Thankfully those books are allowed on my book buying ban 😉

      Have a great week Lexxie!

I want s’mores by a fire pit! I need to get a fire pit and now I want s’mores 😉

I hope you have a great week! I know we talked yesterday but maybe another chat this week 🙂

Oh yeah, you might be. The weather in spring varies so much I can’t tell you what to expect but I’d say anything from 60s – 80s. Vague enough? The good news is that there’s air conditioning EVERYWHERE and you don’t have to put up with the heat if you don’t want to. I tend to be cold in the summer here because every building I go into is OVER air conditioned!

I don’t think it was that bad, but I’ll send you the text 😛 I don’t know if Michelle saw this yet.

Lol, I hesitated before sharing this on Twitter… Drunk Berls, ha-ha-ha 😀 Nice! My week was pretty alcohol-free actually, except for the champagne on New Year which was too much and gave me a horrible headache the next day … when Eric was sick. For 48h! During which, despite my aforementioned splitting headache, I slept a total of … 4H! Yup, a whole lot of no-fun. But all seems better now. Phew!

Lol drunk Berls is way more boring than she was 10 years ago. I mean, my craziest story is drunk texting about blogging? Who is this old lady? LOL its fine, I prefer this older, more settled, and slightly boring self 🙂

Oh no I hope Eric is feeling better now! It’s always rough when kids are sick – not great timing for that headache! I hope you get a chance to catch up on sleep before things get busy again. Have a great week Ramona 🙂

-12? I could cry, just THINKING about how cold that is. I’d never leave the house and sit around all day drinking hot cocoa and reading. On second thought, that’s not to bad… I’ll take your cold if I have a great heater and NO REASON to go outside lol! Have a great week Kimba & stay warm!
