Sunday Post | 66th Edition

December 7, 2014 Sunday Post 29

Welcome to the 66th Edition of My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

News at Home

Well, this week couldn’t quite live up to the last couple weeks, but it was still pretty good. Sunday and Monday I wasn’t feeling too good, but nothing serious. Beyond that, it was a pretty good week. We put up our Christmas Tree and I started wrapping presents to put under the tree- which is one of my favorite Christmas activities. I’ve also been enjoying re-teaching myself to knit. I’ve just been doing all kinds of practice stitches and I think I’m going to try and make a pot holder this week. I’m just having fun getting back to it. My mom has also been getting back to her sewing – she’s making Buffy a rain coat and it’s going to be so cute! We also had some left over apples from the apple pie and I made this really simple, really yummy apple crisp. I still have some more apples, so I may make it again or try something else. Anyway, an average, but really good week!

Blog News

COYER is coming up in just two weeks! I’m super excited and for the first time ever I’m not behind as it approaches, so that’s super exciting! If you haven’t yet, sign up here. Hope you can join us!

Michelle and I also announced a 2015 challenge we’ll be doing this wee – 2015 Reading Assignment Challengek! I’m really excited about it and, even though it’s going to be pretty challenging, I think it will be great for my TBR. Sign up here.

Finally, I’m co-planning an event involving Cozy Authors and would love it if you know any Cozy Authors – personally or just love their books – and could direct me towards them. Thanks!

Blogosphere Fun

We’re starting to see bunches of new (and repeat) challenges for 2015 pop up! I’m so excited and trying to figure out which one’s I’m going to go for. Rather than list all of the ones I’m considering (there’s a lot) – you should check out this site that catalogs the challenges! I’m so excited to have found it – watch out, this could be dangerous! – and be sure to add challenges if they aren’t listed.

Lola had a great Lola’s Ramblings post about Blurbs – what makes them good or bad?

Julie @ Chapter Break had a great post listing the “10 Reasons I will rate a book 2 stars

Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat is having a Follower Appreciation Giveway! Show her some love & follow 🙂

If you have a self-hosted WP blog you may want to check out Lexxie’s post about “WP Security.” I’m a bit nervous now…. but it’s good to be informed!

*I’m no longer listing book purchases/grabs every week, but saving them for my monthly Pinching Pennies posts, so come back then to see what I added to my shelves*

How was your week?

Link to your posts in the comments below so I can visit you 🙂

My mother tried to teach me knitting but I’m such a buttergfingers that it didn’t take. Still, it would be neat to hats and scarves and such. I have friends that knit so I still benefit. 😀

Wrapping, blergh. Not my favorite activity; I’m a big fan of gift bags. 😀 Good luck getting everything wrapped!

I’d ask you to come wrap my Christmas presents because I neither enjoy or am good at wrapping but I’d actually have to be on top of things and actually HAVE presents first! I really want to learn how to knit. I’m hoping I can learn in the next little while. I’m excited about the Reading Assignment Challenge. I’m working on my list/signup post. What a great idea! Have a great week!

Oh no a list of challenge! Now see what you have done I am going to go look at that list and find some challenge that I think is super cool and sign up and then I tell you I am so horrible about signing up and then not ever finishing I am really going to try and finish the reading assignment one but it’s got me a bit 🙂

Okay so now I am going to go sneak a look at that list.

    Have a great week!

We’re putting our tree up today, at some point. I think we’re the last house in the neighborhood that’s not all lit up! At least it’s fairly warm today so we can do it. 🙂

Thanks for the link to the reading challenge list- I found one there I like, so that’s cool. Think I’m going to do the Cloak and Dagger one since I’ve been reading mysteries anyway, and it sounds fun.

    Have a nice week Berls!

Glad to hear you had a fun week. I have brought most of the christmas present already, but haven’t wrapped them yet. Not sure if we even are going to decorate our house this year.

My mom once thought me how to knit, but I forgot most of it already. I know I made some bookmarks when I first learned it, although they always ended up broader then how I started. I would love to pick it up once again, it’s a very relaxing activity.

Thanks for linking to my post about blurbs! I really had fun writing that post about blurbs I wrote it a long time ago, but couldn’t find another example of a good blurb. I finally scheduled it when I found one.

I hope you have a great weekend and your next week will be a good one!

I use to crochet a lot but have stopped for some reason. It was always so relaxing to do. I might have to start again, I have a few blankets I still need to finish 🙂

You need to send me a picture of Buffy in her coat 🙂 plus you should have posted a picture of your tree! I love tree pictures lol

Have a great week and we need to chat this week.Hopefully it’s not to crazy of a week 🙂

Crocheting and knitting intimidate me. Being lefthanded, I’ve always found it so confusing!

Your challenge looks great, Berls. I wish I could participate, but I’m such a mood reader that I can’t plan out my reads in advance unless they are tied to a tour. And even then, I try to limit those to once a month. I need flexibility. Which is funny, because I’m a project manager and you would think I would want EVERYTHING planned out.

      Have a good week!

Hehe you’d think, but I totally get it – if you have to impose order in so many aspects of your life, you probably relish not having it in some of them!

I can see how knitting could be confusing left handed. I’ve heard you should just try to do things the same, but I imagine that’s not easy, since you’re not going to have the same muscle memory to draw on as right-handed folks. Oh well – you stick to those amazing pictures, I’ll *try* to knit LOL! Hope you’re having a great week!

    • Berls

I meant too but got lazy lol! I’ll post it this week – along with the finished coat. She just finished it Monday and its so cute!!

Hows Friday looking for you? Should be good for a chat!

    • Berls

Hehe that was me with sewing for the longest time Melanie! But I’ve finally learned how to keep buttons on. Other than that, my mom’s the seamstress, I’m a knitter and not a particularly good one.

Oh if you know any cozy authors that would be great – by cozy we’re thinking solve mysteries but they aren’t a traditional detective, cop person.

  7. Kim @ kimberlyfaye reads

I love this time of year! Granted it’s crazy busy and there don’t seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done, but I guess I thrive under pressure. I put up my Christmas tree this week, too. I’m hoping it will inspire me to actually do some Christmas shopping. Online, of course. 🙂

Thanks for the blogosphere links! I’m off to check those out now! Have a great week.

I know exactly what you mean Kim. I like being busy, especially with things that make me really happy – which most holiday things do. I do a lot of my holiday shopping online too. But I have a couple items I need to grab in the store, hopefully this week – then I’m done 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week!

  8. Laquesha @ BookLover2.0

My week has been pretty uneventful because my life was exams. But now they’re over and I’m extremely excited to catch up on everything I’ve missed. I am soooooooooooo excited for COYER, you don’t even know, lol. I wasn’t able to participate in the last one and it bummed me out but I am definitely doing this one. Also, I wish that I could knit or do something even remotely crafty but I lack the time it takes to learn such a skill. 🙂

Woot!!! Congrats on finishing exams – I know that’s a relief! And I’m so glad you get to join us for COYER this time, its going to be so much fun

  9. Lexxie

Thanks for linking to me, Berls 🙂 I don’t think you should worry about the security stuff (but I’m NOT an expert!)

I already sent you an e-mail about two cozy authors 🙂 That sounds like a very cool event.

One day, I’ll get back to knitting, too… but not right this minute 🙂

I hope you’ve had a great weekend, and that next week will be wonderful.

Thanks Lexxie! I saw the email, just haven’t had a chance to really read it and reply – had a busy Sunday! Its been so nice getting back to knitting – even though I’m not very good, its very relaxing and so cool to see something go from yarn to SOMETHING because you made it.

Anyway, hope you had a nice weekend and have a great week!

  10. Ramona

Hey, Berls 🙂 I have to ask, is Buffy your sister? *so cool* (I used to watch “Buffy” religiously 🙂 Anyway, reading your post now made me miss my knitting needles, I think I might just dig them out. My week was kind of crazy, mostly Xmas cleaning (which I do before putting up the decorations), writing, blogging (so good to get back into it). Unfortunately I’m falling behind on my reading due to Eric (my ten year-old) insisting that I read Harry Potter (ALL the books) to him before bed (I love it, of course). It has been snowing at last, though not enough, and it’s aggressively cold, so I couldn’t go for a run all week. Woe me! Hope you’re feeling better <3

Oh I really should explain for people who are new to my blog LOL! Buffy’s my dog 😉 I used to watch it non-stop and I still have it on a lot in the background. But I always said, “If I get a pet, I’m naming it Buffy.” So now my 16 pound terrier mix is named Buffy. She’s too cute and really does think she’s making the world safe!

I hope you dig out the knitting needles, it’s been so fun having mine out again! It’s crazy how much I miss being crafty.

Xmas cleaning… that sounds intimidating! Is that like spring cleaning only in the winter? And I’m so glad you’ve gotten back into blogging too – I love discovering new bloggy friends 🙂 Have fun reading Harry Potter – long though it may be, how cool! I wish mine wanted that! We have had such warm weather, our windows have been open most the week. I’m hoping we’ll get a little snow for Christmas. But I hope it lets up enough that you can get in a run tomorrow 🙂 Have a good one!
