Out With The Old & In With The New | September 2014

December 30, 2014 Blog Fun 16

Michelle @ Because Reading & I are recapping 2014 and looking ahead to 2015 the next 4 days. Feel free to join us! I’ll be sharing highlights month-by-month and giving you a peak at my goals for 2015.

Out With The Old: September 2014

Some Quick Facts:

Picking a favorite book in September was really hard because I read so many REALLY GREAT books in September. The Wright Brother won because I couldn’t put it down and read it in one day, one sitting. But I can’t not mention that I read The Witch With No Name, which was the incredible end to The Hollows. I also read both Crown of Midnight & Heir of Fire in September, both which were fantastic. And that still is skipping a bunch of really great ones.

Michelle started My TBR List Meme in September and I jumped in raring to go! I read Skinwalker and even though it didn’t blow my mind, I really enjoyed it and I would say My TBR List accomplished it’s task. I also joined the Goodreads Seasonal Reading Challenge in September and I’m so glad I did! It’s pushed me to read books that have been sitting on my TBR for so long and to read others that I wouldn’t have even considered before.

I had to take a bit of a break at the end of September/Early October because things got hectic at home (my mom moved in with us October 1st), so not a lot happened on the blog at the end of the month.

In With The New: Goal #9

Something I did manage to do in September was figure out a system for writing my reviews as soon as I was done reading them and I’ve managed to keep it up! I don’t setup the post right away, and that’s fine – because I have the monthly ReviewAThon to do that.

So Goal #9 is all about reviews:

  1. Keep Writing reviews AS SOON as I finish reading books
  2. Setup review posts during the ReveiwAThon each month
  3. Plan ahead and get review posts prepped with details & covers during the ReviewAThon each month
  4. Cross post reviews to Goodreads, Amazon, Edelweiss, NetGalley, and B&N during ReviewAThon each month

Do you remember Septebmer? Are you good at writing your reviews right away? What about cross posting them?

Oh yay!!! I hope you love it as much as I did – I’m telling you, I read it in ONE SITTING! So good:D

I like to write my reviews right after I finish a book too- if I wait too long I’m afraid I’ll forget stuff. So yeah… :) And crossposting? I’m bad at that. Maybe I just found a resolution for 2015 LOL.

    Have a great New Years!

I have a problem remembering to cross-post as well. I did by the GoodRead plugin for UBB, but I need to get the reviews posted to BN and Amazon. I like the idea of doing that during the reviewathon, Berls. I’ve been keeping up with my reviews so I haven’t joined since the first couple because I haven’t had any to write. I hadn’t thought to use it to do clean up and cross posting!

I haven’t had any to write either – go us! Woot! I had the ubb plugin but for some reason goodreads blocked my blog’s ip and the reviews stopped working. So Ashley refunded me, which was awesome of her. But yeah, I use the reviewathons for all things review related, now that have no reviews to write.

Thanks Greg! You too! The cross posting is a definite weak point for me. I’m about a month behind on them right now :/ but I’m glad I’ve finally mastered reviewing right after reading!

Great goals! I should include that in my goals. Yesterday I wrote five reviews and I still have one more to write. It’s just when I’m in the reading groove I just want to read not stop and write a review. What was your secret to staying on track and writing them immediately after??

I have been doing really good at pre prepping the review posts tho lately. As soon as I start reading them the next time I’m online I make the post and add the book info etc.

Well what worked for me was to write them on my phone. I have a windows phone, tablet, and PC so they’re all linked to each other and anything I do on my phone is easily accessible both other places. So I use OneNote on my phone and just type out the review on there as soon as I finish reading. Even if I was up late, I can do that without ever getting out of bed. Then I just edit when I setup the post. Its working better than I could have hoped for. Good luck finding a system that works for you!

I have been trying to think of ways to revamp my reviews. I just recently with my last review added a First Look..which is the first line or two from the book..it’s those first lines in which you sort of know if your going to like it or not. :)

LOL yeah I probably should have added recap in that title :) LMAO at first when I read your comment I thought you were giving ME two clues what you read and telling me to guess. And I was all ready to guess and was like, wait, where are the clues? Anyway, me either – I had to use goodreads to tell me. Happy New Year Carmel!

Haha that’s audio books for you – if it weren’t for them I wouldn’t manage to read half as many books. I do seriously recommend making time for The Wright Brother though. That book was fantastic :)

    • Berls

It really was! Thanks so much for showing me the SRC. I just love it and it’s really pushed me into reading lots of books I otherwise wouldn’t have. I’m sucking thus season though, I’ve only read like 50 points so far lol.
