November 16, 2014 Sunday Post 31

Welcome to the 63rd Edition of My Sunday Post!
Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

I had to miss posting last Sunday because life has just been too crazy! I’m going to try to make this a quick update, but I do want to share my craziness – maybe if I share it, things will calm down a bit?

So two weeks ago I mentioned we were looking for a car for my mom – we found one at a great price. Check it out:

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

We got this for just around $3k, meaning my mom could pocket about $2.5k from the sale of her other car, after paying for Title, Taxes, Registration, etc. It was an adventure though, because we had to get a bonded title! If you’ve never done that, don’t! In the end it’s fine, but we had to drive all over the world and pay a bail bond – yeah, like the jail kind – to get the title. We knew we’d have to and the seller helped us, otherwise we wouldn’t have done it. And we do know without a doubt that the car isn’t stolen, so that’s good.

But the Monday we spent doing that just set the pace for the last couple weeks. I’ve had all kinds of emergencies – from helping a member of my stepson’s family get help for self-harm (life is so hard for teenagers these days, breaks my heart) to my brother having a full blown grand mal seizure, on his birthday of all days! He’s epileptic, so it’s not a huge shock, but he hasn’t had one like that in quite a while. Problem is, he celebrated a bit TOO HARD for his birthday 🙁 It’s been two weeks of intense drama, a few hard core fights, lots of tears, and way too much stress. And somehow, it’s also already half-way through November! How the hell did that happen? I want to call a redo!

I have to say, though, that I’m feeling really optimistic about the rest of the month. Once I get caught up on school work – I need to email/call my advisor, I’ve missed two emails and three phone calls from him… oops! – everything else is really on track. I’m planning on buying things for Christmas decorating this week – we don’t have anything because of all the moves – and Franky’s mom and I will be sitting down this week to figure out who’s cooking what where for Thanksgiving (yes, we celebrate with my BFs ex – we’re a big happy unconventional family). I’m really looking forward to letting the holidays take over and, crazy though they may be, they’re a great happy crazy!

November’s Challenge Updates

A Month of Giving Thanks – I’m so glad we decided to do this – I’ve really enjoyed reading other’s posts and just seeing others love on a blogger/book I Thank. I still need to write 10 of these posts – I changed up the last week or so of the month to fit in more bloggers and I’m trying to get those written.

NaNoWriMo Bloggy Style – I’m doing pretty good on this one. I started the month off with 17 scheduled posts, so my goal is to end it with 47 scheduled/setup posts. I have 21 scheduled right now and another 12 setup, meaning I’m at 33. Of course 11 of those are for November, so I have some work to do, but I feel like I might just make this!

NaNoWriMo – well I knew I’d drop the ball somewhere, shame it had to be here. I have spent some time writing and researching for a couple different book projects, but I haven’t lived up to my goal to write every weekday. And lets not even talk about word count. Oh well, I’ll keep trying, maybe the second half of the month will be a shocker?

NetGalley November– I finished one NetGalley read so far and already turned in the feedback. My goal this month was to read between 3 and books, submit the feedback, and get my percentage up between 80 and 85 (which also means no new requests!). I feel pretty good about this one, I think I can squeeze in two more this month and my ratio is already up from 72.1% to 74.4%

Since I’m really sleepy, I’m going to skip sharing my new acquisitions for the week. Let’s just say it wasn’t TOO many and all were free 🙂

How was your week?

Goodness, you have had a lot going on, Berls. I’m hoping the stress-crazy is all done (for the year!) and the fun, happy-crazy settles in. It’s a good thing you have so much organized and pre-done already. That’ll help keep the holidays happy and much less stressful. I hope this week is going smoothly for you. 🙂

Sorry to hear about the crazy week but yey for new cheap car! That does sound like a crazy story that you have to tell now ;-). Hopefully your advisor is chill, hehe, usually for me its more like him missing my emails and phone calls! Here’s to a great second half of November!

🙁 I hope this week is better. It is so hard to go through all of that when you have resistance. I think it’s wonderful that you get along so well with Frankies family. Separation is always hard on kids and I think that situation is wonderful for him and you guys, Makes life so much easier when everyone gets along.

I hope this week is better for you and you know if you need me I am always here to chat (for like 6 hours) 😉

Thanks Michelle – it was a rough week, but I’m optimistic that things will be better moving forward. I love how close we are to Franky’s family too – it’s a unique situation but works really well for us. We’re there at least once a week, often more 🙂

I’ll probably be calling you at least once this week – hey! Maybe if we chat daily each call will only be an hour? LOL

Oh wow, Berls! What a busy, and kind of half-sucky month you’ve had so far! I’m glad you’re optimistic, though, and sure the rest of November will be really good.
I really love your Thanks posts, they are heartwarming, really.
Have a great evening, and an even better week ahead 🙂

Thanks Lexxie! I’m glad you’re enjoying the Thanks posts, writing them put a smile on my face and reading them – along with the comments – really made these past couple weeks not as bad. They’ve been real highlights in my day! I’m with you though – the rest of November is going to be AWESOME 🙂 Have a great one too!

Hope your family is doing better! I think I should have signed up for the blog ahead thing as my whole NaNoWriMo thing is not going so well..I sign up ever year but never get it done. (I think I sabotage myself cause I think my writing stinks, but I have so many ideas!)

I am proud to say I have finished three or four netgalley reviews and sent feedback during Netgalley Nov. but my percentage is still so low it’s shameful. 🙁

    Have a great week!

Woot! Three or four NetGalley reviews is great! I owe Michelle a swift kick in the rear now, she posted that book she got off NetGalley and I had to request it… and ended up requesting three 🙁 So in a matter of minutes I potentially sunk my percentage. Oh well. There’s always December LOL

I know how you feel – I get critical with my writing too. Personally, if I’m stuck because I’m judging my work too much, I just sprint. As in write without thinking or plotting or reading what I wrote. Just write. You’ll probably surprise yourself 🙂

Wow, crazy month for you! I understand how that goes sometimes, but glad things are slowing down for you now. My brother just bought that same car as your mom’s and he is very happy with it, so hope she is too. Hope you get back to your NaNo projects, if not make it a NaDec instead, lol. Enjoy your weekend.

LOL I love that idea – NaDecMo! I really want it to be an all year thing anyway, I just get so overwhelmed by life sometimes.

How cool that your brother got the same car! I did a lot of searching for reports of problems and it seems to have very little mechanical trouble, so I’m hopeful. So far she loves it (and I want to drive it all the time)!

I, too, can’t believe that we are half way through November. I did a spot of Christmas shopping yesterday. My last two trips to the grocery store have including looking for sales on the Thanksgiving food I’ll be cooking in a week and a half. I am looking forward to seeing my family. I saw them quite a bit this spring/summer, but hardly at all during the fall. It should be fun!

We ventured to the mall yesterday and it was already insane! I’m scared for December – I may have to avoid all shopping locations all together! I need to work on Thanksgiving shopping this week – we’ve been scouting out deals too. I hope you have a good time with the family, it’s always my favorite part (followed closely by the food LOL)!

wow you had an hectic week! I always wonder why all the craziness and business always seem to heap up in one week. I hope your brother’s doing okay. Epilepsy sounds like such a difficult thing to live with.

I am happy you found a nice car for your mom, it looks great! I am not sure exactly what’s a normal price for a car, but it sounds like you got a nice deal.

I really enjoyed reading you and Michelle her giving thanks posts, they are fun to read. Althoguh I can imagine what a load of time it must have taken to write all those posts.
I am doing pretty okay for Blog Ahead and got another 2 posts written this week for December.

I hope the rest of November is more fun and less stress!

It does seem to really stuff itself all into one little week huh? My brother’s doing well – it is a tough illness to have, but it’s very manageable thankfully.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the giving thanks posts – they’ve been a pleasure for me. It does take some time, but totally worth it. Good luck with Blog Ahead and have a great week Lola 🙂

It really is – people think we’re crazy sometimes, but we love it. There’s a few exes and their families and it never feels uncomfortable. We spend a lot of time there during the year too – it’s family, even if unconventional.

I’m so glad we were able to help her – it was super emotional as you can imagine, but I think she’s on the right track.

      Have a great week Trish!

Thanks Melanie, I hope so too! I feel like I just had to get all the bad done and now it’s going to get better and better, right? I’m glad you’re enjoying the month of thanks – I’m so glad we decided to join Felicia doing them, I think they’ve really helped keep me in a decent mood despite everything. Have a great week 🙂

Thanks! My thoughts exactly. I’m looking forward to decorating for Christmas, especially since we’ll be getting all new decorations. Should be lots of fun 🙂 Hope you have a great week!
