Sunday Post
Welcome to the 54th Edition of the Sunday Post!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

I don’t really have much to report this week. Life continues to plug along… I’m still looking for a job, busy writing and editing a few projects and getting ready for the next semester. I’ve got a bit of school work to finalize, especially with how badly the job search is going. I’m kind of shocked how unsucessful I’ve been finding a job – I didn’t think it would be easy, but I also thought with my experience and education it wouldn’t be near as difficult. Fingers crossed I hear something from some of my applications soon! I hope everyone has a great week!

I was so bad this week. But Audible had a 2 for 1 credit sale and that’s too good a deal to pass up, right? And then Netgalley… well you know how that happens!

Great books this week. I hope you enjoy 😉

On a more serious note, I completely feel you about the job. I had no idea it would be this freaking hard. I thought with my law degree and passing the bar exam I would be able to find something. But no one is hiring it seems. I am going crazy. I mean, I worked for one of the biggest firms in the country during law school, have great references, am published in a law journal, and clerked for a judge. But still, nothing! I swear if one more person says my resume is “impressive” “exemplary” or “better than theirs even” but follows it up with, we have no positions available. I am going to scream!

ok end rant. I hope you have better luck than I do finding a job!

Oh man that stinks Michelle! It sounds like you’ve got some seriously good qualifications too! Who would have thought you’d have trouble finding work with a law degree & passing the bar – even without all those other things! Well I finally got a call for an interview, so hopefully I’ll nail the interview. If I get lucky I’ll be sure to send it your way 😀

Oh my goodness girl you loaded up on some awesome books this week! Magic Rises, First Grave on the Right, Rogue, River Road!!! Wow…you are going to enjoy that and I’m ticked that I missed that sale. Not that I need more books but hey, when does that ever stop us. 🙂

I’m sending happy job hunting vibes your way. I’m sure the universe is just trying to find the perfect fit for you.

LOL right? The last thing I need is more books, but that has never managed to stop me. Even when I have a book buying ban in place (like right now *snort* that’s working so well!).

And thanks – they worked! I have an interview on Thursday and it’s quite literally for THE PERFECT job for me. Fingers crossed I nail the interview 🙂

I haven’t! I’ve had her on my TBR for at least a year now, but you know how it goes – too many books, not enough times. Now that I own one though I should do much better getting through them 🙂 I’ll look forward to your library post – I need to figure out what I’m going to say in mine still.

Berls, I’m sorry you’re having such a tough time with the job search. It can be really frustrating, I know. One of my nieces is in the same boat. I just wish I could help you both!

You did great with the Audible sale! I’m looking forward to your reviews of those books.

Sorry about the job search. They’ve been talking on the news this summer–tied into stories about graduation and colleges–that even college educated folks are having a hard time finding a career in their chosen field. Hope things look up soon!
I enjoyed your commentary on Outlander, though I viewed it as one who hasn’t read the books and wasn’t blow away by it.
I really need to link up some COYER choices soon, sigh… don’t worry, I’m just a procrastinator. Have a good week and good luck!

    • Berls
      Twitter:

Thanks Rita. It is really rough – I’m starting to apply for jobs I’m really very over-qualified for and I’m trying to make my resume look like I’m a good fit, not too overqualified so they don’t overlook me. So frustrating. *sigh* I’ll just keep trying and hopefully something will come up soon.

I’m glad you enjoyed the commentary. I can see why you weren’t blown away – I don’t think they did a great job making it appeal to those who haven’t read the books. I think episode two was a bit better though, so I have hope 🙂

Good luck getting linked up for COYER! Have a great week 🙂

Edge of Never was really nice but I was mixed by the second one. I was also mixed by the Carriger book because I prefer the original series. I love ilona andrews and Darynda Jones and I have the first zombie book to read. happy reading!

So sorry to hear about the job search. I know how frustrating that can be. Hopefully this week is THE week! Great books this week. I enjoyed River Road – not much character development but fun and light with twists and turns. I’m so behind in linking up my COYER reviews is beyond embarrassing. Next week I will get caught up! Have a great week.

Thanks Katherine – let’s hope! Fingers crossed! I haven’t read any Jane Anne Krentz yet, but I heard good things and the narration sounded good, so I couldn’t resist. No worries, you still have a couple weeks or so to link up. You just might be at it for a while 😉 Have a great week!

I would miss it so bad – but it isn’t a cheap subscription I know. I did the 24 credits all at once deal – it was the cheapest option in the long run a few months ago. But I’m going to run out of those 24 credits before the year is up… I guess I’ll have to learn to read what I have then LOL

That is just so frustrating! Like we said interviews are so impersonal now.

Still think you should have gotten the 10 instead of 8 but that’s because I’m a bad influence 😉 I got Tear you Apart too. I love the cover!

Enjoy all your new books! I have my fingers crossed for you! You will find something it just might take longer than you expect (((HUGS)))

  9. Trish @ Between My Lines

Yay for book sales. All rules go out the window then! And *cries* I missed the audible sale but I’m going to double check in case it’s still running. I loved The Edge if Never, yes it’s full of all the usual NA cliches but it still really worked for me.
    Huge haul, enjoy 🙂

All my book buying bans have little exclusions – sales are at the top of that list (who am I kidding? I don’t ever stick to my bans lol). I think it might still be on, fingers crossed for you. I’ve heard so many good things about the Edge of Never and I can handle cliches done right 😉 have a great week Trish!

  10. Greg

Good luck with the job search, hang in there. I liked your post on re- reading childhood favorites- I have re- read some of my old faves and have been disappointed by several of them, unfortunately. So I did kind of wish I had not gone back to those- but then there have been others that held up better. It’s been a mixed bag for me. 🙂

I like Dragons & Hearts too, she has a nice blog.

Thanks Greg, I’m going to be trying a new strategy with my applications this week, we’ll see how it goes. That’s my fear with rereading – right now that book holds this spot as my first epic fantasy read, but if I reread it, will it be de-throned? I just don’t know.

Have a great week Greg 🙂

I have the Redmerski series, it’s renowned to be excellent. And I should read White-trash zombie since I love her Kara Gillian series. Somehow, I have trouble reading a book whose heroin is a zombie lol ! I hope you’ll soon find a job and cross my fingers for you. Have a great week 😉

Thanks Red, fingers crossed! Have a great week 🙂
