Sunday Post | 53rd Edition

Sunday Post
Welcome to the 53rd Edition of the Sunday Post!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

The big event this week has been the air conditioning. We live in an apartment complex, which typically means something breaks, not your problem, right? Well, since my BF just so happens to be one of the maintenance guys, that’s not the case. In exchange for the fabulous deal we have on rent (and it is amazing) we have to take care of our own maintenance issues (with their supplies, so no cost just our labor). It’s very fair and I’m not at all complaining. But this week the air in our apartment got seriously bad and I’ve taken to sitting at my desk in just underwear and sports bra with a fan blowing on me when I’m home alone. I know, not the best picture, but you get how dire things have been. Finally Saturday – since the BF was off work – we spent a good part of the day trying different solutions. The one that worked? Getting a window unit from my BF’s brother-in-law. The apartment is still cooling down, but if I get too hot, I can go stand in front of the thing. My dog has taken to sitting right in front of it. I think it’s Buffy’s new favorite spot 🙂

Other than that, nothing too major going on. Hope y’all had a great week!

And then there’s LitRate!! Funding is moving along pretty well – but it is behind 🙁 I was so excited before, but after reading the Twitter Chat (if you missed it here’s a summary post) I’m going to be devestated if this thing doesn’t happen. Please spread the word, donate, do whatever you can to help make this a reality. I noticed that they’ve added a pledge reward for Publishers at the $1,500 level – so those bloggers out there that are way more connected than I am (IDK if any of you really know publishers, I sure as heck don’t) this is something to share with them 🙂 Here’s a couple more posts about the greatness of LitRate that came out this week too!

I loved Blood Games too! I love it when the GP is front and center in the books, so this was a good one for me. And I loved the Jonah time 🙂

LOL our weather is always so opposite, it cracks me up. I’m glad I don’t have your weather right now though, I’ll take heat over frost any day! Have a great week Naomi.

Thanks Heidi! When I was in St. Louis we just had the window unit and it worked really well, but yeah, central air tends to be a staple here in Texas. The main thing about the window units is that they blow up the electricity bill when you’re using them the way we’d have to. I suppose you need heaters more than we do though!

      Have a great week 🙂

The dreaded air conditioner. I lived in a rental house that had no air. Who knew that place was going to be so hot in the summer. My husband and I would just hang out around the house naked all summer. I am not joking. Have a “cool” week!

LOL Angie – I totally know what you mean. My stepson lives with us part time, so when he was around I had to be dressed, but he spent more time at his mom’s this week because of the air and we became an underwear only household. Enjoying my now cool home 🙂 Have a great week!

That sucks about the AC! My husband and I got an AC unit at the start of the summer and OMG, I don’t know what we’d do without it!

Don’t worry about LitRate not earning a constant $500 per day. It’s normal to expect a big surge in pledges at the beginning, a bit of a lull in the middle, then another surge at the end.

You can still worry about whether or not we’ll make it (I have :P) but just know that we shouldn’t expect a constant flow of pledges. We’ll get the most at the beginning and the end — not in the middle where we are now.

No AC is a serious bummer, so I’m so glad to have it back! I’m so glad to hear that a lull in the middle is normal. I want LitRate to happen so bad and if I could just hand you a few thousand I totally would. Have you considered getting an email campaign to publishers? I saw you added that reward level and thought it was brilliant but of course don’t know any publishers or how to go about something like that. But if you have any clue who we’d need to contact and how we’d need to, I bet we could get most the people who’ve contributed to email publishers for their support!

I got ”Shadows of Asphodel” as a freebie from Amazon!! 😀 I hope we both enjoy it! The cover is gorgeous. Also, OMG, how you’re almost posting 2 posts per day every day. That’s incredible plus I believe you run this blog alone, right? Amazing I’m telling you. Good job! 😀

I’m reading it now and it’s so good! I grabbed it as a Freebie last week and then the author offered me the audio book and I had to take it because I read audio so much faster and enjoy it so much more lately.

Aw, thanks Lola! A lot of that is just because of COYER – lots of posts to do with that, but once that’s over I’ll drop down to just 1 post most days. But yep, I’m a solo blogger. Sometimes I think it’d be nice to have a partner in crime, but I love my time on the blog too much to share it 🙂

You got some great looking book this week, Berls. Shadows of Asphodel is especially intriguing. I’ve never heard of Dieselpunk romance!

Sorry about your a/c problems. We’ve had units go out during the summer before and it’s not fun. I hope it’s finally working.

    Have a great week.

Thanks Jan! I thought so too – and I’m listening to Shadows of Asphodel now – really enjoying it.

The air is working off and on, but our window unit is picking up the slack and we’re all comfortable, so I’m a happy girl 🙂 Have a great week!

  5. Rita

We just moved to So Cal at the beginning of the warmest season in the middle of a several year ultra severe drought and our central A/C went out for a couple of days. I like some heat, as opposed to freezing in a house taken over by snowdrifts in upstate NY where we moved from, but I couldn’t handle it in the house, which should be my cool refuge. I feel your pain! I hope your BF is not on the staff to fix every person’s broken A/C problem!
Have a good week. I don’t know anything about your week’s titles, so I will check them out further.

      Twitter:

Yeah I’ll take heat over cold any day – but like you said, you’re supposed to be able to go inside and get away from it! I found myself going outside to get away from the heat, because at least there was a breeze! I’m initially from upstate NY as well, so I know what you’re talking about with that snow. Bet So Cal is a nice change! Have a great week Rita 🙂

That air conditioning problem sounds bad :(. We don’t have airconditioning here in most houses in the Netherlands, but then again I am assuming it doesn’t get as warm as where you live.
So far I think Goodreads works good, but I am curious to see what happens when LiRate reached their funding goal and get’s made. And if many people will change form goodreads ot Lirate, at least it sounds like Ashley though well about this project.

Yeah, I imagine not have AC her in Texas would be much like not having heat in the winter in the Netherlands :/ Not fun.

Goodreads is okay, but I think we’ve gotten used to it and having to just deal with what we can’t change. I know I’ve found all kinds of work-arounds to get closer to what I really want. So it would be so nice if I could just have it without the extra work. I think it will be great, but I am nervous that it won’t make it’s funding goal 🙁

I already read Blood Games – it was great! For once I actually like the audiobook cover – they often are really bad when the hardcover is great! Have a great week Bea!

As you can see I used Ashley’s Fonts. I spent a better part of yesterday changing my bullets..LOL Who knew there was a coffee cup icon! Our A/C has died twice and both times the temps were in the 100’s and on a weekend..so we had to wait 2-4 days for repair. It was not pretty. Hope your week is amazing my dear!

I noticed the coffee mugs and thought, “was that something Ashley did when she got the new design and I’m just noticing it because of that post? Or is it brand new?” LOL! So I’m glad that I wasn’t oblvious 😉

That’s the one thing I’ve been thankful about – yes, it’s been hot, but it has not been 100+. Inside it’s been like 85 – outside 95. So not at all good, but survivable. Still loving the 72 we have now! Have a great week Kimba.

  8. Greg

Our AC went out last year and it was terrible- we had a window unit too until we got it fixed (had to replace it actually- beaucoup dinero)and we would stand in front of it too to cool off! It was the only place to be LOL!

Thanks for the shout out on your COYER post last week, I just saw that! Hope you like The Originals!

Your Sharknado review, by the way, is the funniest thing I’ve read this week- I’m totally going to see that movie now. 🙂

LOL thanks Greg, I had a blast writing it. It started as a joke reply to a comment and then I realized I was writing a review in my comment, might as well right it for everyone to laugh along.

You’re welcome! I need to get a copy of The Originals still – it’s at my local library though, so I should be able to read it sooner than later 🙂

This is the one way that we’re lucky – adding the window unit won’t cost us anything because our electric bill is included in our rent (part of the employee discount). Otherwise this wouldn’t work, because those things KILL the electric bill. But my place is a nice 72 degrees now. Yay!

I’m so curious about LitRate! It sounds like there’s definitely a lot of chatter about it so that’s pretty promising. That’s awful about your AC but glad it’s cooling down for you. We’ve had our AC go in the summer and it wasn’t fun even for me and I’m always cold! Have a great week!

I really hope it gets off the ground! They have a steady flow of pledges coming in, but we need more if it’s going to be a reality. I hope all the chatter reaches enough people and we make $16,000 by the end of the month. I’m so glad we have a solution for our AC problem, because I couldn’t take much more! I’m usually cold too, so I understand what you mean about summer heat just being too much. Have a great week Katherine 🙂

Ugh, that sounds like a royal pain. And it’s always when it’s hottest it seems! We got lucky that it wasn’t 100+ degrees. Our apartment has been averaging 85. This morning it’s a cool 72 🙂 So much better! Have a great week Jenea!

We seriously do! And yes – it sucked. I felt like I couldn’t complain either because my poor BFs hands were tied – he can’t fix the apartment wide unit and if no one else is complaining he can’t make them call someone in to do it. :/ So much better today though!

I didn’t find GR obnoxious, but when they partnered with Amazon something changed. Also they have made no improvements to the interface in years. Like being able to sort friends for location when sending an event invite, and including a “blog hop or giveaway” event category. Both so easy. That having been said, I am so overwhelmed with the sheer quantity of book sharing sites it has become hard to keep up. BUT, if I were not a blogger, I would probably choose one and hunker down. As a blogger I have to get around a bunch of sites.

Goodreads frustrates me because they don’t seem to try and improve at all. And customer service? Yeah right! They somehow blocked the IP for me to automatically post my reviews and it would take them two seconds to fix it, but have they even acknowledged my request? Nope not even a little bit 🙁 I really hope LitRate happens and then I will kick the rest to the curb lol
