Sunday Post | 52nd Edition

August 3, 2014 Sunday Post 46

Sunday Post
Welcome to the 52nd Edition of the Sunday Post!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

Another weeks has flown by and it’s officially August! Holy wow, how’d that happen? This week went by in blur for me – applying to jobs, working on the blog, reading, cleaning…. I can’t remember anything specific that happened really, just really busy. Oh wait – I watched Sharknado for the first time… that was something else. I was surprised that I laughed my ass off, because I don’t tend to like stupid movies. But this is a stupid that works for me apparently. And I’m currently trying to decide if I want to watch the early release of Outlander – only to have to wait two weeks to watch the next episode or just wait until the real release day and then only have to wait one week for the next one. LOL my life sure has gotten boring huh? I need a job 🙂 Anyway, hope y’all had a great week! Hugs 🙂

I really enjoyed this Post from Laura’s Notebook – Why Being a Book Blogger is Awesome (And Maybe Some Reasons Why It’s Not)

The big thing on my radar this week in the blogosphere is LitRate! I had a guest post from Ashley @ NoseGraze just yesterday all about LitRate (check it out) and there have been several more worthy of attention – to name a few:

  • NoseGraze (of course): LitRate – The Next Big Thing in The Reading World!
  • Phantasmic Reads: LitRate – What it Takes to Create a Book Cataloging Site
  • Awesome Book Assessment: Blogospher Travles #9: LitRate, potentially the new Goodreads
  • Pinkindle: LitRate – Creating My First Bookish Business Plan
  • There’s definitely more posts that I’ve missed about LitRate, but you should be able to find more posts if you go to the Kickstarter page for LitRate. I’m really excited about the potential of this project and just hope it gets a chance.

I guess I was on planet Mars last month because I never heard of Sharknado (vacations far from the net and any means of communication will do that to you) lol ! But now I want to see it 😉

Wow! You had such a busy blogging week. 🙂 What is it with Sharknado lately? I was out for dinner with some people Wednesday and a few of them were talking about it. Then the next day on Facebook people were making references to it in an article? Lol.

Good luck on the job hunt. 🙂

I’ve been wanting to read the “Shatter Me” series by Tahereh Mafi.

My week was pretty okay. 🙂 Have a good week.

I did – and I have no idea how that happened. When I saw all the posts come up, I was surprised myself.

Sharknado 2 just came out, so that got people talking about it. That’s how I heard about it and was like, “ok, I guess I have to check this mess out.” LOL

Thanks! Fingers crossed on the job hunt. I can’t believe how hard it is to find a job. Oh and I loved the Shatter Me Series – definitely recommend checking it out, though I know it’s one of those people seem to love/hate.

        Have a great week 🙂

It’s funny how that happens sometimes. 🙂

Haha, I think I’ll have to give it a watch too. In a strange way, I think it beats actual tornadoes and seeing as I live in Kansas, at least there’s no chance of sharks being in tornadoes here. 😉 Lol, yes I heard about the second one. It sounds so strange.

You’re welcome! Yeah, it can definitely be difficult. Love/Hate, huh? Well, I’ll take that challenge.

          Thank you. 🙂

I haven’t watched Sharknado yet but it does look funny. I understand why you would want to wait for Outlander, that is a long wait for the next episode. But I couldn’t wait so I watched the pre-screening of Outlander on Wednesday night. It was at a theater and it was great! I’m going to watch the first episode again on 8/9 with my mother-in-law. I hope you like it!! Have a great week!!

I ended up watching it tonight. I just couldn’t wait – especially since so many people I know saw it and are talking about it. I enjoyed it, particularly the last bit – but that’s no surprise since that was when the book really picked up for me too. I’ll probably watch it again before the next episode comes out though too.

I have weeks like that all the time. I get a lot of shit done, but none of it is exciting or worth reporting. LOL I’ve been hearing a lot about Sharknado on Facebook, but we don’t have satellite or cable, so no watching for us. Unless it’s on Netflix. Hmmm…may have to look it up.

It’s on Netflix – that’s how I saw it. There’s also Sharknado II, but I didn’t see that yet, because it’s only on SyFy and I don’t have that either. Plus, I think that’s all the stupid I can take for a little while 🙂

Yeah – hoping next week will be more interesting LOL Have a great week Carol!

    5. Ginny @ Gin's Book Notes

LOL…haha…I can’t believe you watched Sharknado. Now I’m wondering if I’m missing out. You totally need to write a review for it so I don’t have to watch it. 🙂

You and I grabbed many of the same books and I’m so happy that you picked The Harvesting from the prize page. I hope you enjoy it.

Have a wonderful week and P.S. I’m waiting to watch Outlander so I don’t have to wait as long for the 2nd episode. 🙂

LOL I know I can’t believe I watched Sharknado. I started thinking about writing a review and realized I do have a funny review I could write… that may just show up tomorrow, since it’s fresh in my mind. LOL

Oh and I caved and watched Outlander tonight. I wanted to wait, but there was too much pressure from all the people I know who already watched it and want to talk about it. It was either watch or get spoilers. So I watched LOL

LOL I don’t have SyFy though, so I have to wait for the others to show up on Netflix 🙁 Oh well, only so much sillyness in a week for me anyway!

I’ve had so many friends watch Outlander and say that I have to watch it, so I don’t know how long I’ll be able to hold off! But then we have to wait TWO weeks for the next episode…

    6. Katherine

I”m a binge watcher by nature so my answer would be to store a bunch of them up and watch them in one sitting! I’m going to have to break down and watch Sharknado. I’ve been secretly wanting too because it looks so awful so I think I’m just going to have to give into the urge! Have a great week!

That was me with Sharknado as well Katherine. But everyone just kept talking about it – since Sharknado II came out this past weekend – so I had to at least give it a try. It’s worst movie ever, in a hilarious way. It would be sad if they hadn’t meant it to go that way.

I prefer to let episodes store up too, so I don’t have to wait, but I can’t do that with Outlander. There’s too many people I know who will be talking about it and everything will get spoiled for me 🙁 I’m not even sure I’m going to make it through today – I’ve already gotten 3 phone calls about it today! LOL

        Have a great week!

Ha, I have been resisting Sharknado but I don’t know, it is probably so stupid it is funny. I kind of liked Airplane and Naked Gun type of humorous films in the past, and I could use a good belly laugh.
You had a really impressive week on the blog last week, just wow! I have been slow on my blog in recent weeks due to RL, of course, but hope to come back strong this month.
I also donated to LitRate and have been advertising it for Ashley. It makes me very excited to see what can be done! Have a good week.

      • Berls

I was resisting Sharknado too – but after all the talk I had to just SEE. My brother didn’t think I would like it because I don’t tend to like stupid movies. But yep – it was so ridiculous and bad that it was hilarious. Would I give it five stars and watch it over and over? No. But is it worth watching once? Hell yes 😉

Thanks Rita – I was kind of blown away by how many posts I had last week too – I’m not really quite sure how that happened LOL.

Yay! I’m really excited about LitRate and get so excited everytime I see someone else who’s excited about it – It gives me hope 🙂 Have a great week Rita!

    8. Kristin @ My ParaHangover

My hubs saw that Sharknado was on the other day and said, “Hey, your movie is on!” I was like, “What?!?!?!” But he said it’s so ridiculous it has a cult following and is funny if you’re in the mood. I might just have to DVR’it and watch it myself. Phooey on Kimba (bwahahahaha – she’ll watch it someday!!!)

Fab haul this week! I own Obsidian in hardback but I went and nabbed the Kindle and I’ll donate the hardback to my library – they need it 😉

Thanks for all the LitRate info – I got her email announcement but I’ll have to investigate more. There’s Literally (or whatever it’s called) out there, too so I’m not sure what to think about all these sites popping up!!

      Have a great week!!!

It really does have a cult following – I can’t say I’ll ever be a huge fan, but I did enjoy it way more than I anticipated. The first one is on Netflix – I haven’t seen the second one because I don’t have SyFy.

I listened to Obsidian just a few weeks ago, but figured I might as well grab it on Kindle while it’s free. Great idea to donate it to your library!

LitRate is going to be so much better IMHO because of the way Ashley & Coding God work. They provide incredible support and listen to their community giving us what we want. I just hope they get the financial support they need to get it off the ground!

        Have a great week 🙂

    9. Lola

I slowed down on the job searching a bit this week as I suddenly got really busy with Lola’s Blog Tours. I hope this keeps up, then I might not even need that extra part time job!
I noticed a lot of people got Obisidan this week and posts about it being free kept showing up on my facebook and twitter. I already read it and own it in paperback, so I didn’t grab it. I have only read the first 2 books in the series and haven’t yet had the urge to read the rest.

That would be fantastic Lola! Good luck, I hope it works out for you 🙂 I recently listened to Obsidian (library copy) so I thought I might as well grab it and add it to my massive eBook collection. I’m not itching to read the rest yet, but I did enjoy it enough that I’m glad to own it.

Have a great week Lola 🙂

I got Obsidian too. I was surprised to see a freebie from and author I’d heard so much about before. Most of the time I haven’t even heard of them.

I haven’t read the Outlander books but I’d like to see the show. But I don’t have Starz so I’ll have to wait.

I was surprised to see Obsidian free as well. I think a lot of people grabbed it – it was one of those deals that’s a bit too good to pass up 🙂

The Outlander books are so good – but so long, so I can see why you wouldn’t have read them. I’m really looking forward to the show. The first episode is available online with Starz and on several Cable provider’s On Demand, even if you don’t have the channel. But that’s just the first episode, so you may not want to watch it until you can get access to the whole thing…

        Have a great week Jenna!

YAY Obsidian! I think I initially bought that one myself when it was free or like .99 some years ago! Took me awhile to read it, but I ended up LOVING it to pieces! Great haul! Hope you enjoy all your new reads!

No, I don’t have SyFy so I could only watch what’s on Netflix. That’s okay though – I think I hit my stupid quotient for the month, will check the others out later 😉 Maybe Sharknado 2 will be on while y’all are watching 3 next year LOL

I read Obsidian recently and, though I didn’t quite get on the fangirl train, I did enjoy it so thought it would be nice to own a copy.

I’m so hoping LitRate gets the support it needs – I think it could easily be the best thing out there 🙂 Have a great week Trish!

So I was right there with you about Sharknado and convinced I would not like it. But I finally just HAD to see what the big deal was. Even though I’m not a huge fan now, I was surprised that I laughed my ass off. And it’s so stupid, you can’t be scared. At all. LOL
