July 27, 2014 Sunday Post 44

Sunday Post
Welcome to the 51st Edition of the Sunday Post!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

As of Monday, July 21st and 5:26 PM I got caught up on comments!! I answered something like 275 comments in 3 days, as a good many of you are very aware because you got email notifications each time I replied to your comment. I was so behind, so thanks for your patience and not going ballistic on me when I caught up and you got all those emails 😉 It’s been so nice to be caught up and I’m keeping up now. Oh and I’ve manged to get two full weeks ahead on blog posts, so that’s great too.

Also blog worthy news- Reanna @ Phantasmic Reads hosted Quarter Talk yesterday and invited 8 bloggers to talk about books during the second quarter. I was one of them! It was super fun and you have to go check out what everyone had to say – it was Me, Angie from Pinkindle, Ashley from Nose Graze, Jennifer from The Bawdy Book Blog, Jessie from Novel Heartbeat, Kimba from Caffeinated Book Reviewer, Lori from Romancing the Dark Side, and Rachel from Fiktshun. Can’t tell you how honored I was to be included among so many bloggers that I look up to 🙂

As for life – more of the same. Trying to find a job but no luck yet. I’ve applied all over the place and I’m starting to get a bit nervous. I’m hopeful, though, because I know I’ve got the experience and skills – it’s just so hard to find a job when you don’t have one. But I need to find one soon because with the way things have been going with my current grad adviser, my fellowship is probably going to be discontinued very soon. So fingers crossed. That’s it for me, y’all have a great week!

Phantasmic Reads and Novel Heartbeat are hosting their 2nd Annual Beat the Heat Read-a-thon in August!

Read, Sleep, Repeat is hosting ARC August! Get those ARCs cleaned out!

Great post from Kimba – Do we demand more from our books than reality? I know I do 😉

Those of you who do a lot of your own design work may really enjoy this post from Nosegraze, complete with 37 Fonts to download.

Nosegraze also had a post called “How Many Plugins is too many?” and it had me thinking I might need to go through my plugins and delete some. I don’t have very many really, but I don’t know that I’m using all the ones I do have.

And I had a blast reading this very funny – and so honest! – post from Carmel. “Does Reading Romance Make You Question Whether You Are Normal?

Jennifer @ The Book Nympho & Carmel @ Rabid Reads are hosting STOMP VS ROMP again this year. As a UF & PNR fan, I’m really looking forward to it. Check out Team STOMP and Team ROMP for the line up of events and details.

New Additions to My Shelf

I failed massively on my no new requests/purchases rule this week. I went to NetGalley and hit request. I saw a good deal and 1 clicked. I got that email from Curiosity Quills and said “Oh, I’ll review that and that”… But I’m really looking forward to my new reads, so that’s a plus!

Thanks Ginny! I’m super psyched to be ahead for once – now to stay that way 😉

I’m excited to read Stitching Snow mainly because I’ve heard pretty varied reactions to it, but one friend said it was BETTER THAN CINDER. Then I HAD to see for myself LOL.

      Have a great week 🙂

Well done, you! You blew those comments out AND got 2 weeks ahead on posts – awesome! Some of your new books are very tempting but I’m trying to stand firm. [cough cough Stitching Snow cough cough] (I did request a few NetGalleys that I would probably read anyway, but I haven’t gotten approved yet. And I One-Clicked a few titles that I’ve already read but wanted to own electronically – so they don’t really count.)

Best of luck with the job search. You’re a great person and I’m sure you will find something, hopefully soon.

LOL Stitching Snow was the start of the end for me – I requested that and then I just lost all control… Good luck resisting my friend 😉

Thanks, I really hope I find something soon. I applied to a few more positions today, so fingers crossed. And yes, it feels so good to be ahead, I’m patting myself on the back just a wee bit LOL. Have a great week Lark!

Congrats on catching up on your comments :). And good luck with the job search, I hate job searching and I’ve been at it on and off since I graduated.

I read The Replacement a while back and really enjoyed it. Enjoy your new books!

So many books– you have been busy all week! I haven’t read any of them, but I hope you enjoy them and I will have to get on my COYER reviews soon and post more than the one I did. This summer has been busy for me. Have a great weekend.

Doe Eyes and stitching snow both look awesome!!

And a HUGE round of applause to you for catching up on comments and being 2 weeks ahead. That is super awesome. I hope you find a job soon. I know how frustrating it can be. I am STILL waiting to hear back from my interview from a week ago.

    Happy Reading!

Good luck on the job search! I ended up working for a temp agency for the first couple of months after I graduated college which helped get a job in my field. It was such a pain. Looks like you got some great books! I’m interested in Fatal Brushstrokes. It looks interesting! Have a great week!

That’s a stinky place to be – it’s my brother’s situation right now too. What you really need to get a job anymore is to know someone who’ll get you in the door. Then, once you have a job, getting another job down the road is easier. It’s always harder to find a job when you don’t have one for some reason.

Good luck with the job hunt and good job following up on all your comments.

The comment system I use allows me to respond back via email which helps. Although recently I found that some of the messages were stuck on their server marked as SPAM. Not sure what happened.

Thank you for your recent post about Good Reads. Because you pointed out you can have different items viewed when looking at your shelves, I now have the REVIEW option checked so I know if I’ve transferred the review from Blogger to GR. 🙂

  9. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Good luck on the job hunt. Pretty soon, I’m going to need to start looking for a new job myself. Not looking forward to that. It’s rough out there and it was rough like 4 years ago right after I graduated and was trying to find a job! So many, many good luck to you!!

Nice haul!! I liked the Kitty books, especially the earlier ones and that one is definitely a game changer that I did not see coming! Also enjoyed Fracture Me, both of those novellas were so intense! Hope you enjoy all your new reads!

Come stop by my STS if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

Thanks Jessica – it really is rough and I feel like I’m in this tough spot where half the jobs say I’m overqualified and the other half say I’m under :/ Oh well, I will find something. Good luck to you when the time comes.

I’m excited about my books – I just finished the Kitty book yesterday and yeah, it really was a game changer. It wasn’t my favorite in the series so far, but I’m interested to see where things head. Have a great week 🙂

I’m really excited about that one – but I’ve heard mixed responses. One person told me it was even better that Cinder (which I loved) and others said it wasn’t even in the same league. So we’ll see 🙂

It feels nice to get caught up, doesn’t it? After a chaotic week, I’m trying to do the same thing myself. I’m not getting very far with it though… too many shiny distractions. 🙂 Good luck with the job hunt. It’s neither fun nor easy, but you’ll find the right thing soon! Thanks for the blogosphere post list! I’d seen the ARC August Challenge, but Beat the Heat was new to me, so I’m off to sign up for that. And, as a self-proclaimed font hoarder, I’m *really* excited about the 37 fonts post…

    Have a great week!

LOL – I know all the shiny things can be so distracting. The other day I had like 30 windows open and kept forgetting the reason I had logged on in the first place. At one point, I shared a giveaway and then forgot to enter it! I can be so easily distracted.

Enjoy the fonts, I wouldn’t know what to do with them, but I know a lot of people who love them so I figured I’d share! Have a great week Kim 🙂

Good luck with the job search! It’s certainly not the most fun thing to do, I know because when I was looking for something else it took me a while to find what I wanted too. Job market is so tough these days but you’ll find something good. I’ll have to go check out Quarter Talk! 🙂
