Pinching Pennies

You may have seen similar posts by other bloggers, such as Feclia @ The Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog‘s Balancing the Book Budget or Jennifer @ The Book Nympho‘s Book Budget. I thought it was a great idea so Pinching Pennies is my version of being trying to be responsible when purchasing books. And a big thanks to Michelle @ Because Reading is better than real life for designing my button!

July’s Goal

My goal since March has been $30 or less. And I’ve been doing a really good job with it, on budget every month. Even under budget some months! This month I had the additional goal of not adding books unless I had the intention of reading them very very soon. I can’t say I did perfect with that, but I did pretty good and it definitely reduced my spending 🙂

July’s Spending & New Additions

Audible

Total: $0.00
Credits:3/8 left
Here’s what I got:
Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (1 credit)
Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout (library)
Kitty Takes a Holiday (1 credit)
Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi (1 credit)

Amazon/Barnes & Noble/Etc.

I used up my Amazon gift card from last month on a couple of other necessary purchases, plus a portable cd player and bluetooth transmitter to expand my listening options. 🙂 But that meant nothing left for books. Good thing I didn’t spend I spent less than $5! Wow!
Purchases: $4.31
Here’s what I got:
7 eBook Freebies
eBooks Purchased:
Fracture Me by Tahereh Mafi ($3.24, including tax)
Doe Eyes by Staci Heart ($1.07, including tax)
Won:
Apart at the Seams by Marie Bostwick (won at Bookclub)
Summer Days by Lisa Jackson (won at bookclub)
Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (won from The Book Vixen)
For Review:
Take me Tomorrow by Shannon A. Thompson (received from author)
The Barefoot Queen by Ildefonso Falcones (NetGalley)
Queen of Someday by Sherry D. Ficklin (NetGalley)
Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis (NetGalley)
Fatal Brushstroke by Sybil Johnson (NetGalley)
How to Date Dead Guys by Ann M. Noser (Curiosity Quills)
Guild Assassin by Berley Kerr (Curiosity Quills)

End Results

So I spent an amazing $4.31 and only 3 Audible Credits!! Yay! I also didn’t add too many books to my shelves – I kept it a reasonable number – just 23 books! I spent $5.00 for a COYER giveaway and bought (at cost) two e-books. That’s it! I’m very proud of myself this month 🙂

Do you keep a book budget?

How’d you do in July?

Well I try, but can’t say I succeed 100% of the time. But now that I’m at least trying not to just buy and buy and buy without knowing when I plan to read a book, I’m doing a bit better. It’s a battle. It’s like I think books are going extinct and I need to make sure I’ll personally have enough for the rest of my life time LOL

It was a rude awakening when I first started keeping track, but now it’s really exciting to see how much better I’m doing and it’s helped me get a bit more control over my book buying purchases. Good luck with your budget 🙂
