Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

Last week was a week of ups and downs for me. At the start of the week I attended my first book club meeting ever and it was great! Obviously I always knew I would love a book club, but was hesitant to join one for numerous reasons (that I won’t get into here). Anyway – last fall while I was still living in St. Louis I found out that Felicia @ Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog lives in my hometown area! And I moved back to the area this winter. Long story short she belongs to a couple of book clubs (runs 1 actually) and invited me. This was the first time I could make it – so I not only went to my first book club, but I met her in person! And Felicia is the first blogger friend I’ve met face-to-face, so that was really cool too 🙂

Later this week though, I got sick. The same day that my mother-in-law came back to stay with us (she’d been staying with my sister-in-law). So I had a house guest while battling a fever and stomach bug. That was fun. She’s gone again (and I feel better, thank goodness!), staying with another sister-in-law. I’m not sure if she’s coming back to our place (she seems to like staying here, which I’ll take as an child-in-law victory… not that it’s a competition or anything…), but she heads back to Mexico on Friday.

On another note… I was trying to help a friend figure out something on Goodreads this week. In the process I discovered all these features I didn’t know about Goodreads. I proceeded to spend a good 3 days reorganizing my bookshelves. I’ve decided to do a Saturday Fun Question’s post all about the hidden features of Goodreads after I’m done with June Is Audiobook Month posts (btw – if you didn’t see, I have a giveaway for that going on, check it out!). Anyway, I discovered that I have some 450 books that I own but haven’t read yet!! Geez! I’m screwed! So I’m trying really hard to be much more careful about grabbing books (not that this week’s haul really reflects that at all…). I’m going to try and stick almost 100% to books I already own for COYER Summer Vacation and maybe make a good dent since I also realized that a lot of them are shorts/novellas! And on that note, I’ll just remind you to sign up for COYER Summer Vacation and stop blabbing! 🙂

You are a very productive sick person! Glad you’re feeling better! And glad you’re winning the child-in-law contest :). I do love a good book club. I’ve been involved in one for awhile but the atmosphere has kind of changed so I haven’t been in awhile. I do miss it though. Looking forward to your post on goodreads. I really don’t know how to get the full use out of it and never seem to remember to figure it out when I have the time to mess with it. Have a great week!

Thanks Katherine! I don’t that I discovered things that will be new to many people, but it’s incredibly new to me. And I figure I can’t be the only one who’s been clueless, right? 😀 Have a great week!

YAY for feeling better and for meeting Felicia. I’ve not yet met any blogger friends. I won’t own up to how many unread books I own but my goodreads shelves tell the truth. I can’t wait to see what you learned about goodreads. I’m sure there’s a lot I still don’t know.

LOL Bea, I think I’m willing to own up to how many I own because it’s less than I thought. And yet, it’s still really really bad… I’ve only been blogging for 11 months, so I can’t imagine how bad it will be when I’ve been at it as long as some of y’all! We’ll see if what I share about Goodreads is really that surprising… maybe I’m the only one who didn’t know LOL. Have a great week Bea 🙂

Me too Michelle! That’s why I own some 450 books I haven’t read!! But I’m trying really hard to exercise control. Sometimes a book just looks too good to pass up though!

      Have a great week 🙂

Sorry you were sick, Berls, especially with company in the house! But awesome that you’ve joined a book group and met a blogging friend in person. I’d love to do either!

I can’t wait for your post on hidden features at Goodreads. I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of what you can do there. As for how many unread books you have — between physical books, Kindle, and ePub, I must have at least that many, probably more. I would have to swear off new books and ARCs for years to catch up. (hides face in hands) So you’ve got plenty of company.

LOL Lark! Well I’m glad I’m not alone in this. I’m really hoping to make a dent in them this summer! And I may not have found out anything too amazing about goodreads… I mean until now I really was just clicking when I want to read a book and then adding reviews when I was done – so I wasn’t a master LOL. Hopefully I’ll have something useful to share 🙂

I’m itching to read it and I hate that I have this colossal reading list! It’s happening this summer though… perhaps even this month. I had a B&N credit and I’ve always known I wanted to own physical copies of this series because the covers are so pretty, so I used the credit and only had to pay a little bit. 🙂

I’ll be curious to see your Goodreads post since I use it but not nearly enough, and probably don’t know half the features that are out there. Liked your book budget post too, I’m terrible at impulse buying if I’m in the bookstore. Trying to be better though… LOL!

I’m a horrible impulse buyer too – I’m hoping that what I figured out on Goodreads will actually help me on that front. We’ll see. I totally wasn’t using goodreads well at all, so my tips won’t be brilliant to some, but they totally changed my world LOL. Have a great week Greg 🙂

Bummer about being sick, but glad you are better. And I totally agree about it not being a competition or anything *snickers* when it comes to in-laws. I’m my FIL’s only DIL (at the moment my 2 BIL are single) and he’s always telling me I’m his favorite. He’s a stinker. lol Have a wonderful week!

See I have a LOT of child-in-law competition since my BF has 6 living siblings and none of them is single. Now one of them isn’t local so I guess he’s not part of the current competition, but I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be winning. The other 5 though are here and I think the fact that I’m the only one that doesn’t speak spanish as a first language may make getting along easier. But winning is winning! LOL

You didn’t tell me you weren’t feeling well!!! I am glad you are better now.

That friend of yours really made you work for 3 days, I bet you got her back by tagging her in a bunch of books she recommended to you 😉

I am glad you were able to meet Felicia, I am rather Jealous since I want to meet you!!! Maybe at RT next year. I am still working on my mom and if she can’t go I don’t see why I can’t just come by myself 🙂

Hope you enjoy all your new additions to your already GIGANTIC Collection of books 🙂

    Have a great week!!!

LOL sorry – I probably was trying to ignore the pain tearing apart my stomach. And yeah I did my best to get my friend back with all those tags. 😉

I really really hope you get to come to RT next year – even without your mom! Depending on my living situation I might be able to offer you a pull out couch. It just depends because my mom is supposed to be moving in with us and Franky is so back and forth on where he lives. I might run away and share a hotel with you instead lol 😀

Omg, 400+ books you own but haven’t read?! THAT’S A LOT! That’s like several years worth of reading! Gosh! Good luck with it all. 😉 And sorry to hear about being sick, ugh, that absolutely stinks. I feel so useless when I’m sick because not only do I skip work and school, gah, you can’t even read to make up for it because the rotten feeling. 😐 Glad you’re recovering though! My Sunday Post!

For someone who has been sick, you’ve been really busy. I was part of a book club a few years ago but had to drop out when I moved towns. The best bit was how passionate everyone was about books. My nerdy side was free to express herself without fear.

I’m exhausted just thinking about how busy I was last week :/ I do love the book club for that exact reason! I so rarely get into nerdy conversations like that with real live people – the blog is as close as it comes – so it’s a real treat 🙂
