Shannon A. Thompson | Free Book Friday

March 14, 2014 Free Book Friday 4

I recently read Shannon A. Thompson’s Minutes Before Sunset (see my 5 star review) and knew this was an author I wanted to help promote as much as possible. Her ideas are fresh and her characters are so wonderful to read. I’m seriously looking forward to the next book in the Timely Death Trilogy – which I’ve included details for below. She’s also generously provided 3 eBook copies of Minutes Before Sunset which we will be giving away at the #COYER Twitter party at the end of the month (so don’t miss the party – March 24 @ 3pm CST)!

Alright, that’s it for me – let’s turn it over to Shannon :)

What Free Books Mean to Me

By Shannon A. Thompson

Although many are skeptical when items are “free” – because there’s a catch (there’s ALWAYS a catch) – free novels seem to have the opposite effect. Despite actually being free, readers assume the novel isn’t worth the read if they are not paying any money for it. But today’s market is ever-growing and always changing, and authors continue to morph with it because they love writing, and they love sharing that love with the world.

That is how I view giveaway novels.

As hard as writers work to complete a story, they always want readers – that’s why they are sharing their stories with the world after all – and authors understand that they themselves are a new product. Many companies in all kinds of industries giveaway hundreds of promotional items, even items they are simply testing out. That’s exactly what authors are doing – they are allowing readers to try novels on for size before taking them home to read in front of the fireplace on a rainy day.

That is when I embrace giveaway novels.

Writing a book can be a never-ending adventure because it leads many authors to another novel and then another and then another after that. While authors are traveling from one book to another, readers are encouraging their travel by reading their latest work. At that very moment, a writer and a reader are connected as travel companions, learning and growing together. Encouraging that travel is vital for a complete adventure, filled with lessons and enthusiasm.

That is why I participate in giveaway novels.

A book is more than just a couple of wordy pages. A novel is an invitation to share passion, embrace something new, and travel with friendship. The word “free” doesn’t change that. The word “free” allows that to happen for many.

Me too! I need to spend more time with my freebies really, because I know I have some great ones just sitting in my eReader neglected…

I totally agree Brandee – some of my favorite series I only discovered because I got book 1 for free.
