Life of a Blogger | Favorite animals

March 27, 2014 Life of a Blogger 24

Life of a Blogger is a weekly meme hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat. Each week Jessi chooses a topic (scheduled in advance) that’s not book related so we that we can get to know our fellow bloggers better – and to know more about them than just books. I’m thrilled to join in and I hope to participate every week from here on out. I hope you’ll join in too – check out the details here!

This week’s topic: Favorite Animals

I adore animals in general. There’s nothing that pisses me off more than to see an animal that has been neglected or abused. IMHO any person who can hurt an animal is sick and deserves the same treatment dealt upon them. Okay, now that I’ve had my soap box moment (which could go on for MUCH longer), let me shift to the positive. My favorite animals.

Favorite animal #1: Buffy

What? I’m supposed to talk about types of animals? LOL I know, but see, there’s no animal that I love more than MY dog – Buffy. (Plus I missed the Pets Life of a Blogger Post) She’s an almost 2 year old Taco Terrier… What’s a Taco Terrier, you ask? (if you didn’t I’m going to tell you anyway LOL). A Taco Terrier is a mix of a Chihuahua and a Toy Fox Terrier. From experience, I can say that this gives you 14 pounds of the ultimate cuddle buddy and most playful dog around. She’s the sweetest thing, though a wee-bit territorial. She wins over most – My mom is not a dog person (though definite animal lover), but she adores my Buffy.

What? You want pictures of Buffy? I thought you’d never ask πŸ˜‰

First row: Buffy sticking out her tongue as she often does, Buffy the first day we got her (Aug 2012), Buffy post-surgery in home-made cone (Nov 2012), Buffy ready for St. Louis winter (Dec 2012)
Second row: Buffy enjoying St. Louis Spring (Mar 2013), Buffy wants Chinese, Christmas (Dec 2013), Play Time (Mar 2014), Walk & Ice Cream with Grandma (Mar 2014)

Other favorite animals

From here, it gets really hard to assign any rank, because like I said I really love them all. I love wild dogs – wolves and fox are my favorites I think. Big cats are also gorgeous. I have to admit, that while I would never want one to be hurt or mistreated in any way, I’m very afraid of birds. That includes ducks, geese, blue jays, chicken, etc. I don’t know, I think my experiences have always been very bad with birds – they are aggressive and scare me!

What are your favorite animals?

That was very nice post about favourite animals. Myself like horses and specially because of the hairs horses have on their neck. They look awesome with those hairs and my favourite horse would be a black one. I never had a horse ride in my life despite number of chances I had in my childhood but now I am grown so I wish of having my own one.

Plus there are some pets I really like and have in my home. I have a cat and 6 kittens in my home and 2 parrots as well. They have their own reasons to be liked. Cats for their fluffiness and cuteness while parrots I like because they copy everything I say and makes me smile with their sweet sound.

Buffy is cute – love her coloring!
Wolves are beautiful. And foxes are one of my favorites, too – can’t believe I forgot them in my post! Yay for big cats *fist bump*

Ugh, birds. I’m afraid of them too! Not so much the ones in the wild, because I can stay away from them and they can stay away from me, but I work in a vet hospital and I HATE when people bring in birds to lodge with us. I don’t want to go anywhere near them! I was bitten by a cockatiel (left a big ass hickey on my arm!) when I was little and I’ve been afraid of them ever since. When my co-workers are handling the bird and touching its feathers, I’m always in the farthest corner of the room lol! I got brave a few weeks ago and tried to handle a bird that was supposed to be nice – thankfully I had the insight to cover my hand with my coat sleeve, because when I held my hand up for it to step up, it bit the shit out of me! Needless to say, I still hate them…

See! Birds are just mean! People usually laugh at me when I say I’m afraid of birds but there’s a reason Alfred Hitchcock used them for a horror/thriller!

Your Buffy is absolutely adorable!!! We have 3 dogs, all 3 are rescue dogs. They are all so sweet and we just love them and treat them like children. πŸ™‚ We have a Chihuahua, a Blue-heeler and a Dachshund. Buck, the Dachshund was severely abused and left to die after another dog attacked him, his fur has all grown back and he weighs about 20 pounds, from the 15 when we got him. I get so upset to see people treat their animals so badly.

Oh poor Buck! I just can’t understand how people can even do that to animals – my heart aches when I hear these stories. I’m so glad you have him and are giving him a better life (along with the other pups). If I could, I’d rescue them all. I’m hoping we’ll get into a house in the next few years and be able to have more than just Buffy. She needs a friend πŸ™‚

I agree, animal abuse and neglect is unacceptable.

We have 3 dogs and 3 cats. I grew up on a farm, so I’m not really enamored with cows, pigs or chickens because I hated cleaning their living quarters. They were good eatin’ though. lol

I love animals. We used to go to the zoo all the time, but as the kids have gotten older the visits have slacked off. If I had to pick a favorite I’d say the wolf. So beautiful.

I spent some time on a farm growing up too – so I know what you mean about cleaning up after them. That’s where my fear of chickens comes from (which spawned gradually to all birds) – feeding them was so scary, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been chased by a chicken!

When I was living in St. Louis the zoo was free, so I went all the time! My BF loves bears, so we spent a lot of time watching them. But I’m a fan of the dog varieties first and foremost πŸ™‚

Awe, I am allergic and cannot even touch my son’s rabbit or I get water blisters on my EYEBALLS..no lie it is awful. We had a cat named Misfit whom I adored and had lived on meds and wash my hands every five minutes his entire life (yep, brought him home and then learned of my allergies, but you don’t return your babies) I hate to see any animal abused or unloved.

I’m so thankful I don’t have allergies to animals – one of my good friends has bad allergies and has to have shots regularly just so she can keep her dog. Like you she discovered them after getting him πŸ™ I’m so glad you (and she) kept your pet, it breaks my heart when I hear about people returning their animals. They aren’t things we buy at the store – they have feelings and are alive and deserve to be treated like it!

I have so many favorite experiences with animals, it’s hard to choose one. The best thing is waking up with my dogs curled around me. But another really awesome experience is feeding a calf. I have raised two bottle calves — Licorice (our current bull) and Hope (a young bull). Licorice still calls me Mama even though he weighs 2000 lbs now. When I first had to feed him, he fought so hard. I had to wrestle him to get the bottle in his mouth. But eventually, I wore him down and became his Mama.

I love waking up with Buffy, so I know exactly what you mean!

Raising calves like that sounds like an awesome experience. I spent some time on a farm growing up, but my grandparents (it was their farm) never had animals that big. 2000 lbs blows my mind!

yeah, bugs creep me out too. I don’t classify them as animals because they creep me out so much LOL

I love horses, though they scare me a bit because they are so big and strong. They’re beautiful though and if I spent more time around them I think I wouldn’t be as nervous.

I hadn’t either until we did some searching to figure out what Buffy was. When we rescued her, we were told that she was chihuahua with maybe some terrier in her. But as she started getting bigger and bigger, we decided to find out what kind of terrier. And based on all her characteristics, the vet said Toy Fox Terrier. So naturally I googled away and found out she was a Taco Terrier and loved the name – so I always say that instead of Chihuahua/terrier mix lol

Oh wow – that IS the closet thing you could get to a wolf – I just googled to make sure I was thinking of the right dogs and they’re beautiful. And HUGE compared to my 14 pound Buffy πŸ™‚

I love Buffy, she is just so cute and I had no idea that she was a Taco Terrier (i don’t know why I think that’s so funny) Give Buffy a squeeze for me, I love her colors!!!

My favorite animal is an Owl and that was way before Harry Potter became popular. I am very fond of the Barn Owl and Snowy Owl (Harry Potters Owl).

Add Silky Chicken to your list of birds you are scared of. I wanted one and I went to a petty zoo to see them and the little crap bite me. 3 times. So I don’t want one anymore πŸ˜‰ lol

You know as afraid of birds as I am, I do think owls are beautiful. I’m reading a book right now that has an owl in it – you may need to check it out.

LOL – chickens in general are at the TOP of my list!

Oh and yeah, I think the name Taco Terrier is funny too. I love it though (and her of course).
