Sunday Post |31st Edition

February 16, 2014 Sunday Post 38

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

I can’t believe we’re already half way through February! This year is already going way too fast. We’re finally starting to see some semi-warmer weather and I hope it will stay that way. And this past week my boyfriend finally got a job (he’s been looking since we got back to Texas in December). He got a call from a place he interviewed at weeks ago while I was out on my jog Wednesday. They had someone walk out on them and they needed someone ASAP. They asked him if he could get there within the hour and he said “Hell yes!” So yay. He doesn’t drive, so I had to run home and take him – I was super sweaty and gross, but it was worth it. I take my dog with me on my jogs and she was real confused because we didn’t do our post-run ritual, which includes a treat. I just dropped her inside and said, “be good. I’ll be back.” lol But she got a good treat when I got home.

As for the blog, I’ve been working on getting posts written in advance and using the calendar system that Kimba suggested a few weeks ago in her Tips & Tricks post. I’m so excited because I’m starting to see lots of blue (scheduled posts) – I’m a little over a week ahead! – and I’ve got such a better grip on what I’ve got coming. I’m mostly planned out all the way through April! Most those posts still need to be written, but it such a relief to know what I’ve got coming! And I no longer feel endlessly behind. So Yay!

How do you get swag? | Fun Questions

Blogosphere Fun

Ashley @ Nose Graze asks “Have physical ARCs lost their appeal?” This was interesting to me as someone who hasn’t actually worked up the nerve to ask for them yet!

Rainy Day Ramblings asks “What Makes a Good Romantic Read?” Her list was mostly spot on for me! Do you agree with her romantic pet peeves?

Author Travis Luedke asks “Do Male Erotica Authors Encounter Discrimination?” I had to really get introspective with myself here and ask if I’m guilty of this. I think I am.

Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat asks “Has Book Blogging Made Me Too Critical?” I’m thinking that I’m thankful for my ability to recognize a great book for how truly great it is, but maybe you’ll disagree.

Pam @ Reading is Fun Again asks “How do you rate books that are not intended for you?” This made me think a bit about my approach to YA reviews.

Thanks Heidi – he’s been at the job for about a month now and it’s going well. Coincidentally that’s about how far behind I am on comments… I wonder if the two are related – probably since I feel so much busier without him at home. Hope you’ve had a great few weeks 🙂

I am always thinking of doing a calendar but just feel that would make me feel pressure. I write my posts on a whim. I guess I do have my Project Disney post I do every two weeks so there is that. In fact… I have one this Friday and I haven’t even started the book yet!! Eek I must start it by Tuesday!

I’m a ridiculously type-A person, so I have calendars or schedules for everything. If I didn’t, I’d freak out. LOL no calendar equals more pressure for me, because I’m weird like that.

Thanks Naomi! Sorry I’m so late replying. His new job seems to have made be a bit busier and more behind on comments (at least I’m blaming him… LOL)

Congrats on the job for the BF. That is awesome! I know all about the job hunt. I graduated law school in May and while I found a temporary law job, that permanent job in the area I want to be in is still super hard to find. I am going to check out that ARC post because I somehow missed that one. Thanks for sharing it! Happy Reading

Good luck with the job hunt, I know how hard it can be – regardless of your education or experience, so often it feels like you have to know someone to get into a good job anymore.

You bet! And yeah, all the scheduled posts have been such a relief. Now if only I could find a way to get the same kind of efficiency with replying to comments… Hope you’ve had a great few weeks 🙂

Thanks Bea! And I’ve heard great things about it – I hope I’ll find time to start it sooner than later. At least I know own it, that will make starting that much easier!

Thanks Jenea – I hope you’ve had a great few weeks. I’ve been bad about replying to comments, and even more so since he got the job (I’m totally blaming him lol) and I’m trying so hard to get caught up tonight!

Me too – though I let them suck me in and end up spending way too much LOL! I’ve heard great things about it, so I’m looking forward to it!

Looks like a great week! Congrats to the boyfriend and for not feeling endlessly behind on your blog! I recently installed an Editorial Calendar plugin and it helped me get all the posts for this week done ahead of time…it felt great but now next week is another story. 🙂

I hope you will stop by and add some of your posts to my Small Victories Sunday linkup that is now open.

Of course it seems I spoke too soon – I’m doing good with posts, but I’m still seriously behind on replying to comments (as this is about a month past due – sorry!). I’ll have to check in on your more recent Small Victories, it sounds like a great idea 🙂

  4. A Voracious Reader

Congrats to your BF! I like the Google calendar (I’m still not figuring out all the features), but my physical Month-at-a-Glance planner will have to be pried out of my cold dead hands. LOL

I need to go read Luedke’s post and if you want to get some physical ARCs and don’t really have the nerve to ask, ‘Like’ Kensington’s FB page and keep an eye out for their call for Remote Reviewers. I started blogging with their books and turned Kimba onto them when I saw another post.

And thanks for the tip about the Kensington page – I’ll have to keep an eye for physical ARCs through them.

  5. Chelsea

I had to click through several of your highlighted blog post links, so thanks for drawing my attention to some really interesting posts this week! I’m also making a note to be back on Thursday for your introvert/extrovert post. Great haul this week – the audible sale books intrigue me. It’s been ages since I had the time to put into listening to an audio book (I used to do it during my hour-long commute, but now I’m a stay-at-home), and I kind of miss it.

Thanks Greg! And yeah – it went so fast, we’re already in March and I’m still trying to catch up on comments… LOL story of my life. I seriously hope to get caught up this weekend and maybe for once stay caught up. Hope you’ve had a good few weeks 🙂

It’s working so great Kimba – I’m so glad you shared how you do that, because I’d tried setting up a system a few times already and it hadn’t worked. I added a step to my calendar – I change the color to green when I’ve finished a book and still need to write the review. Even though I write reviews within 2 days of finishing the book, sometimes I get ditzy and can’t remember what reviews I need to write when I sit down. And I change the color to teal when I’m currently reading a book – just so I can see real easy where I am with the calendar.

Oh and I use thinglink.com for my images. It’s so much easier for me than trying to code links and to arrange the images the way I want them, so it’s my work-around.
