Happy 2014 everyone!! I hope everyone had a good – and safe – conclusion to their New Year. I stayed home with my BF, brother, and dog – Buffy – with a few drinks, pizza, chicken wings and red velvet cake. We also had some really horrible champagne – that’s what you get for buying the cheapest bottle….
Anyway 2014 will be my first full year on the blog and I’ve seen several reading challenges that I would like to participate in. I’ve seen so many that I decided the best approach would be to just list them all together in one post. Hopefully you’ll join me in a couple of them (it’s not too late to sign up for any of them!):
2015 Audiobook Challenge
2015 Fur and Fangs Challenge
2015 Prequel and Sequel Challenge
2015 Reading Assignment Challenge
2016 Reading Assignment
Finishing The Series 2016
LGBT Challenge 2015
Shelf Love 2015

I actually participated in the 2013 Audiobook Challenge and loved it, so I figured I’d better jump in again this year. The 2014 Audiobook Challenge is hosted by The Book Nympho and Hot Listens again. I have a feeling that my audio reads will actually be a bit lower than they were last year. though. I listen to audiobooks when I’m on the bus and walking around campus – but this year I’ll be doing most my work from home, meaning that my only real audio time will be when I’m working out. I still hope that I’ll be able to listen to more than I did last year – my goal is to read a total of 24 audiobooks this year meaning I’ll be aiming for the Binge Listener level. I’ll be keeping track of my progress here.
The moment I saw the Review Pile Reading Challenge hosted by Phantasmic Reads and Fiktshun I knew I would be participating in it. I have done horrible keeping up with my review requests books – which I feel absolutely horrible about. I started off being super responsible and then I don’t know… there was like a book explosion, plus life happened and here I am today with way too many books to read. My first priority will be the books that authors reached out and asked me to read and then I dropped the ball. Then I’ll get to those Netgalley reads that are haunting me right now. My goal is to get to the end of of 2014 with no outstanding review request books and an 80% review percentage on Netgalley. To do that, I’ll need to read at least 2 books a month, making my initial goal 24 books, or Master Level. I’ll be keeping track of my progress for this challenge here.
The 2014 Rewind Challenge hosted by Coffee Bean Bookshelf is in perfect alignment with my goals for 2014. I’m not going to be taking in a lot of new review books this year or participating in blog tours for one reason – I have so many books that I want to read and haven’t had time for. Most of these books are several years old too. And many of the books in my previous two challenges will actually work with this one too. This challenge doesn’t have levels, but my goal is to read at least 50 rewind books. I’ll be keeping track of my progress for this challenge here.
Another challenge that’s a no brainer for be to join is the 2014 Prequel & Sequel Challenge hosted by Novel Heartbeat and Writer Grrl Reads. 90% of the books I pick up are part of a series, so I have no doubt that I will devour this challenge 🙂 However, the system is a little more complex than the others, including a point system based on books read, series finished, etc. Since I’m not great at math, I decided to not even try and predict where I’ll end up point wise by the end of 2014… instead I’m just going to shoot for the middle range: 51-75 points, or Advanced. I’ll be keeping track of my progress and points here.
So maybe you think you’re having deja-vu right now. Didn’t I already list a series challenge? Yes, I did. But the 2014 Series Challenge, hosted by Read. Sleep. Repeat is slightly different than the one I listed above. This challenge will be a bit easier to keep track – no points – but a bit harder to accomplish, because you have to complete a series (or the published books in a series) by the end of the year. But that’s exactly why I want to do it – I have so many series just sitting there, half read. But I’m not great at completing things, so I’m not shooting for the stars here. I’ll be shooting for a Bronze Badge or finishing 3 series. I’ll be keeping track of my progress here.
The 2014 Erotic Romance reading challenge, hosted by herding cats & burning soup, is for pure fun. I don’t read tons of erotic romance, but I like a sprinkling of it to keep things fun. So I won’t be doing any mega reading goals here, but I hope to read about 12 erotic romances this year, landing me solidly in level 1. There’s a little overlap in with the other challenges here and who knows, there may be more. I’m keeping track of my progress here.
*Added 1/28/14: I already have too many challenges on my plate and yet, I saw this one and couldn’t resist.
The 2014 Fur & Fangs Reading Challenge is hosted by two of my favorite ladies – Reanna @ Phantasmic Reads and Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat – so I really couldn’t resist. Add the name and the fact that this is pretty much EXACTLY what I read, and I had to add it to my list. The goal is to read as many vampire and werewolf (shifters in general count actually) books as you can. I really really want to finish reading both the Kitty Norville and Night Huntress series this year, so my goal is the number of those books I have left: 13 (Night Huntress world) + 11 (Kitty Norville) = 24. Yes this is a lot. But it also contributes to my audiobook challenge (Kitty), rewind challenge, and both series challenges. I’ll be keeping track of my progress here.
AND THAT’S IT FOR ME FOLKS! I’m not going to lie, there were several more challenges out there that I wanted to participate in, but I narrowed it down to these 6 because anymore and I think I’d just lose track and not keep up! Good luck to all of you with your 2014 reading goals!
