Teaser Tuesdays | Unholy Magic

October 8, 2013 Teaser Tuesdays 14

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Share links to your post in the comments below – or, if you don’t have a blog, share your teaser in the comments.

Just do the following:
1. Grab your current read.

2. Open to a random page.

3. Share (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.

4. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Make sure what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!

5. Share the title and author, too, so that other participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like the teaser!

ENEMIES DON’T NEED TO BE ALIVE TO BE DEADLY.

For Chess Putnam, finding herself near-fatally poisoned by a con psychic and then stopping a murderous ghost is just another day on the job. As an agent of the Church of Real Truth, Chess must expose those looking to profit from the world’s unpleasant little poltergeist problem—humans filing false claims of hauntings—all while staving off any undead who really are looking for a kill. But Chess has been extra busy these days, coping with a new “celebrity” assignment while trying on her own time to help some desperate prostitutes.

Someone’s taking out the hookers of Downside in the most gruesome way, and Chess is sure the rumors that it’s the work of a ghost are way off base. But proving herself right means walking in the path of a maniac, not to mention standing between the two men in her life just as they—along with their ruthless employers—are moving closer to a catastrophic showdown. Someone is dealing in murder, sex, and the supernatural, and once again Chess finds herself right in the crossfire.

I finished Unholy Ghosts about a week ago and it left me disturbed enought that I needed to see what would happen next. I’m enjoying Unholy Magic more than the last one, the character development is really taking leaps and bounds. I’m starting to see why this series has been so popular!

My Teaser

This week was never going to end! Dead hookers at home, a cavernous house full of miserable people here, and not an answer in sight. It could have been worse, yes – she knew that from experience – but the thought didn’t seem to help her like it usually did.

It’s one of the darker series I’ve read, but the magical world Kane has created is pretty great. Book 2 is definitely better than #1 IMO.

LOL my audio teasers are always so much harder for me! I do a LOT of pausing 😉 That’s a series I still need to read – how’s the narrator? I’m always looking to add to my audible wishlist.

I was really iffy about book 1 but literally JUST finished Unholy Magic today and was pretty blown away by how much I liked it in comparison. The series definitely improves, so if you loved #1 you’ll definitely like #2!

I couldn’t agree more – it’s very disturbing. Definitely not a feel good read, but creative and intense!

I wasn’t a huge fan of the first one either – but there were a few moments that really got to me enough that I felt I could apply the 2 book rule. I tend to go easy on first books, but the second one better deliver. I JUST finished book 2 and I have to say it was a HUGE improvement on the first one. I’m anxious to see what happens next – so if you liked #1 at all I’d recommend giving #2 a shot, but I also recommend audio. Bahni Turpin is amazing and I don’t know that I could read this one. That’s of course if you liked it all, since it is the same world and it’s still dark.
