Teaser Tuesdays | Unholy Ghosts

September 17, 2013 Teaser Tuesdays 12

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Share links to your post in the comments below – or, if you don’t have a blog, share your teaser in the comments.

Just do the following:
1. Grab your current read.

2. Open to a random page.

3. Share (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.

4. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Make sure what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!

5. Share the title and author, too, so that other participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like the teaser!

The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased.Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls.

Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

I have had this series on my TBR for at least a year and I’ve been encouraged to read it over and over again, so when I saw Unholy Ghosts (#1) AND Unholy Magic (#2) on a 3 for 2 sale at Audible last month I grabbed them up. I’m more than halfway through right now and so far so good. It took me a little bit to get into it, but it was worth the wait!

My Teaser

She had to be the stupidest woman on the planet. There was no other answer, because it had just occurred to her that she had agreed to come to an abandoned airport, in a slum neighborhood, with the most feared drug enforcer in the city.

I was too Lauren and her drug addiction does bug me. But I love the characters in general and the world building is pretty great, so I’m willing to overlook it. Hoping it won’t be as strong an element in later books!

Sorry – your comment got stuck in Spam for reason. So weird!! I think you would like this one too, considering you like paranormal. It’s on the darker side, that’s for sure, but good. It’s one for the ugly cry lists.

I’ve heard so many good things (some from you lol) and I knew I had to try it. It took me longer than normal to get into, but I’m in the last third now and really enjoying it. Definitely going to keep with the series.

Glad I’m not the only one who took forever to get to this one. Of course I did just buy last month 😉 I’ve heard so many good things about the series, so I’m glad to be finally listening to it.

It’s good so far and apparently really popular. I do like the narrator, so I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those I like just as much for the narration as for the story.

I’m impressed with this narrator – she has really captured the different characters and the changing situations better than most. I’ve had so many recommendations to read this that I just had to try – I think I’m going to end up liking it, but it’s a slower read for me so far. TTYL 🙂
