Sunday Post | 10th Edition

September 15, 2013 Sunday Post 28

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Basically it’s a chance to talk about the books you bought, borrowed, blogged about, and read for the week and what’s coming in the week ahead – and then share them with a much wider blogging community. Check out the details here.

The semester is in full swing now. I’ve had several sleepless nights because I’m up doing homework or preparing a lesson plan. I’ve missed a few workouts, breakfasts, and vitamins. Yeah – school is so not good for my health. But, I’m thrilled to see that my blog has not suffered as a result. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up a full schedule, but last week was pretty much what I can expect week-to-week from school and thanks to scheduling posts in advance my blog didn’t skip a beat. So yay! I wish I had more time to keep up with visiting and reading blogs, but I’m getting around to a good number every day, so all-in-all I’m happy. And there’s only 96 days before my last semester of course work is over!! (yep, I’m counting down already)

Blogosphere Fun

Have you ever wondered about the pros and cons about self-publishing? In a super informative guest post on Candace’s Book Blog this week author Jon S. Lewis tells all about the benefits of publishing solo.

Should you finish a book just because you received it for review? Should your review a DNF? NoseGraze talks all about these questions in this weeks Bitchin’ Book Blog.

Check out robgirlbooks for an interesting discussion post about what matters to us in our female characters.

On The Demon Librarian’s For Book’s Sake this week Lynsey and Janice talk all about Contemporary Romance and – if you’re new to the genre like me – put up a pretty good list of authors to start you off on the right foot.

And if you haven’t yet, but sure to sign up for the Clean out your E-reader Challenge that I’m hosting with Michelle from Because Reading is better than real life in November. We’re going to help you get to those books that you’ve had since the beginning of time and throw in a giveaway to help motivate you!

New Additions to My Shelf – WOW I got a TON of books this week!!

This was another big week for me with Kindle Freebies and Deals.

I found this book with the Ho-Ho-Ho Read-a-thon in November in mind. It’s not available in any stores, but if you click on the cover it will take you to Danielle Taylor’s website where you can download it for free

Captive at Christmas

I resisted Netgalley for the most part, picking up only 1 book

I also cashed in one of my Audible credits so I can continue with my Jane Jameson reading

I also received a few books for review this week

And finally… I won received two books that I won in giveaways!

I’m thrilled about them both, but I had been really wanting to get my hands on an ARC of Tempt the Stars, so that was a special treat!

A Big Thanks to NoseGraze/Ashley Robertson and Under the Covers/Karen Chance for the giveaways. Thanks to Nadine Christian, Josh Grayson, Emma Right, and Jamie K. Schmidt for the review books!

How was your week?

Thanks!! It’s a bit overwhelming – I think it’s safe to say that my E-reader is the only thing between me and being on hoarders. Could you imagine all those books in paper back?!!

    • Berls

OOOH so you got one of the few coveted ARCs! I’m just so lucky to have won the giveaway, otherwise I’d be waiting until October 1st. Loving it already 🙂

      Have a great week!

Holy Cow woman! Thats an awesdome haul. So jealous of all those amazing books. Lots to read for out challenge! Get that list started LOL. I have thrown out mine twice. Going to try another one on monday and see if it sticks.

    Awesome Post.
    Have a great week!
    Talk to you soon 😉

LOL Thanks. I have a problem and may need to start a support group. There may be a discussion post/meme in there somewhere. Oh wait it’s our challenge LOL I think I’ll definitely be going the route for my list. Every time I look at my list of books I get overwhelmed. Talk to you soon 🙂

Someone suggested a TBR jar to me and I loved the idea, but then I realized it would (1) have to be a huge jar and (2) take me forever to put everything in. So I’m adapting it and doing the same thing in electronic format. Yep, I’m lazy. LOL

Thanks Melissa. It’s easy to let the blog get in the way of school because I’m in my last semester of course work and have serious Senioritis (except that as a grad student I’m way beyond being a senior lol). Thanks for stopping by – have a great week 🙂

    • Berls

Yeah, I think I’m going to have to join an AA group (only for Amazonholics Anonymous)… I’m going to try really hard to limit myself this week.

Did you see that A Voracious Reader figured out where to get A Christmas Captive? Click on the cover in my post and it will take you to the website (I think I remember you wanted it too?)

      Have a great week!

    • Berls

Thanks! I got it as part of the Book Blitz I’m doing, but the author has asked we hold reviews until the release day, so it’s going to be a while before I get to put it up 🙁 but the post for Tuesday does have a pretty great excerpt in it!

      Thanks for stopping by!

I noticed you’ve been posting a lot of audio reviews lately. I tried to do that, but I can’t seem to concentrate enough on them to write a review. I still listen to the audiobooks but I just don’t remember the details very well.

I’ve been thinking about the Ho-ho-ho Read-a-thon but don’t know of too many holiday themed books. I need to take some time and look around so I can sign up. That Danielle Taylor book would work for that and the Clean Up Your E-Reader Challenge.

Writing audio reviews is a little harder for me because instead of just having the book and my notes out in front of me I have to have my headphones on and scroll through all my bookmarks. But I do bookmark like crazy with little notes so when I go to write the review I have lots of my immediate reactions to turn to.

You can find great holiday themed books for free on Amazon and then I’ve seen some on Netgalley too. And you should check out The Danielle Taylor book, it sounds pretty good. A Voracious Reader wrote a good review of it. Plus you can multitask like you said 🙂

    • Berls

Thanks – I’m excited about them. I just hope it’s not forever before I get to them! I wish I could take a solid year just to read… I bet I still wouldn’t be caught up on all my TBRs the way I constantly add to it!
      Have a great week 🙂

  3. gaele

I’m going to have to check out those Molly Harper titles ..
signed up for the challenge. Why not – I can always use more things to do –
    Have a wonderful week!

Molly Harper is a lot of fun, especially on audio – Amanda Ronconi is the absolute best narrator! Glad to have you in the challenge, we’ll have so much fun. 🙂

  4. Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook

Holy cow, you did get a ton of goodies! Awesome! The only one I’ve read is Valkyrie Rising, which I honestly wasn’t in love with. But I hope you like it and all your other books, too.

    Happy reading 🙂

Yeah, I went a little crazy on Amazon this week. I just kept coming across books that sounded good for free/.99 and couldn’t resist. I seen good and bad reviews of Valkyrie Rising so we’ll see. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

    • Berls

Thanks! Well, I’ll tease my review and say that I liked it best in the series so far 🙂 Thanks for stopping by – Have a great week!

    • Berls

Thanks! I was trying to remember where I had seen Captive at Christmas reviewed! I look forward to reading it 🙂 The Jane Jameson series is a lot of fun – I still need to get to the last one. I use it to balance out my more serious reads. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week 🙂

    • Berls

When I started putting this post together I was shocked at how many books I had bought. No wonder I need to do the Clean out your E-reader Challenge! LOL I’m glad to hear you liked Valkyrie Rising – I’ll be sure to check out your review. Thanks for stopping by!!
