Sunday Post | 5th Edition

August 11, 2013 Sunday Post 27

Last week was an intense one at Fantasy is More Fun. I started my move to WordPress on Monday and a lot went wrong. It was a combination of Blogger trouble and my limited knowledge of WordPress. On Monday, when I started transferring my posts over from Blogger, I was suddenly and inexplicably locked out of my Blogger Dashboard. I say inexplicable, because no one at Google seemed to have ever heard of my error codes, let alone knowing how to fix them. So I decided to let my blog sit stagnant for almost an entire week while I poured my efforts into my WordPress transfer.

WordPress issues were all of my own making and once I get past this learning curve, I’m feeling really confident that I’ll love WordPress. The biggest mistake I made was my initial theme choice – but once I found the Tweak Me Theme by Ashley (aka NoseGraze) it was mostly smooth sailing. The best part is that I’ve finally finalized 99% of my design, thanks to my brother. Didn’t he do great? He’s still a freshman (working on a degree in graphic design) but he does better work than any professional I could afford to hire!

I’m sorry your transfer wasn’t headache free! It’s also really cool that your brother helped you out with your blog design, it looks great! He did a wonderful job.
I hope you enjoy your new books!

Oh and just in case you don’t check back on the blog, Enchanted by Alethea Kontis is still free on Sync if you want to check it out: http://www.audiobooksync.com/

Thanks – I passed on your compliments to my brother 🙂 things are going much better now that I’m firmly at WordPress and done with blogger (in fact, much better than Blogger ever was)

And thanks so much -I’ll check out Sync for Enchanted 🙂

      Happy reading!

Sorry to just be replying – your comment ended up in spam for some reason and I just found it. I wish I had started with WP, I can tell it’s better already and I’m getting used to it. I probably wouldn’t have had any trouble if it weren’t for Blogger and if I hadn’t started off with a bad theme. Oh well it was a rough week, but things are better now. 🙂
Hope you’re having a great week!

Thanks for stopping by Melissa! I got a little over excited with the kindle freebies, I just can’t restrain myself in the face of free books 🙂

Have a great week, happy reading!

I’m contemplating the change but just had someone do my new blog design last October. I don’t know but Blogger/Google is making me want to change. Hope everything smooths out for you and Enjoy your week!

Thanks, I’m sure it will. Most of the design could probably transfer over, I think the key would just be picking the right theme (I particularly recommend Ashley’s Tweak Me of course).

Thanks for stopping by – Have a great week!

Thanks so much Toni – I will. It’s much better now that the Blogger side of things is over.

      Have a great week 🙂

Thanks so much – I’m really lucky my brother was able to help me. I did the blogger transfer plugin that Parajunkee recommends and it mostly worked, with a few glitches on the Blogger side. I also had to edit most the posts, but thankfully my blog was only a month old, so it wasn’t nearly as bad.

I self-hosted with GoDaddy – they had (still have?) the $1/mo special, so I couldn’t resist. I really think I’m going to be happy with WP now that the blogger end of things is done. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by – have a great week!

Thanks! My brother’s really excited that everyone seems to like it – I love it. I really think things will go well from now on.

I was on the fence about Heavy Metal too – but I checked out the first book and decided it looked like something I would enjoy so went for it. Hopefully I’m right.

Thanks for stopping by – have a great week!!

Thanks! I’m really lucky to have such a talented brother. And if I had bought Ashley’s Tweak Me theme from the start my pains would have been cut at least in half!
Thanks for stopping by 🙂 have a great week as well!

Thanks! He doesn’t give himself enough credit, but I think he did a wonderful job too (I like to brag on him). I wish I knew half the stuff he does – my blog is radically different since I asked him for help. Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous week!

Thanks so much Sarah. Despite having trouble, I’m really glad I made the switch. I can already tell there’s so many things about WordPress that are better than blogger, and I’m learning how to use it very quickly.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

I don’t want to lie and say it was easy, but the trouble was blogger and me. I wish I had known what to look for when picking out a blog theme, because that was key. The first one I bought looked all pretty, but wasn’t easily customizable and had horrible customer service (as in they still haven’t replied to inquires I made Monday). Thankfully I was able to get a refund. But when I bought the Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin from Ashley’s site (a must if you decide to move IMO) I saw her Tweak Me Theme (For $10 less than the other one I bought!) and saw how customizable it was I decided to go for it. If that had been my first decision, the WordPress side of things would have been virtually painless. Ashley (aka NoseGraze) is great – she responds to questions so quickly and even put out an update on both UBB and Tweak Me just to customize something for me (and she did it within minutes of my asking her how to change something). So if you do it, start there and you’re trouble will be cut in half. Oh – and use Parajunkee’s picture tutorial, that was super helpful.

Sorry I rambled lol – but thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week 🙂

Trish, Ashley will let set you up a play area and let you play with her tweak my design which will also give you a chance to explore WP. If my move didn’t come with a free template I would have totally bought it and her UBBP rocks my world, so ask her to let you play and tell her I sent you 🙂

Oh wow that’s great – I wish I had thought to ask about that. Ashley is wonderful though, so I’m not surprised that she would let you test it out. I think something like that would have made my move so much smoother.
